Total Wine in Laurel has a big selection and helpful bourbon staff. Yeah, it's a superstore, but check them out.

Two great options. KC SIB would have been on my list but those are $60 in my area. Might need to make a second list for $60 bottles

Hard bottle to find at msrp. Every where is different, they normally sit in the stores in dc for $50-ish. But move fast at the ABC stores when they drop at msrp.

Everyone has different palates. But everyone does talk about, maybe too much. Not an LE level bottle, But it’s hard to beat for the price.

Rye or bourbon? Had both at the distillery and liked the rye more, but had it again at a friend’s house and not a fan of the rye and the bourbon was better. Wonder if there is batch drift.

Great options! I like the still Austin picks, but can’t remember if those were more than $50. I love the green river sibs, but those are over $50. I’ll have to give the full proof a try given how much I like the single barrel version. I’ve also heard good things about the green river rye, but haven’t had that either

Good bottle, but I just prefer the oak on the ER10 over the honey of the EHT. But still a great bottle, just felt I couldn’t include multiple bottles form buffalo trace without getting to much hate

I’ve never had it, so I’ll need to get a pour at the bar next time I go. I wasn’t a fan of the regular or 101 proof, so I stopped trying others, but down to give it another shot. The makers heart wood this year was great!

I agree, I attended a Green River tasting on Friday. It was on sale for $46 and grabbed one of the few bottles remaining. Really good value.

Woodford is now over $50 in my area along with 1910. Was trying to find a good double oak to include but all were over $50. Might make another video for $60, as that pulls in many other great bottles. I haven’t owned a pikesville in a while, might need to grab a new one to remember how it taste, but I remember liking it when I first started getting into whiskey. I’m in love with the lasted Russel 10 batch LL/ME, but felt hesitant to include given the batch variance in the past couple years.

Great list! Some of those come in slightly over $50 in my area, but love all those bottles. Also, some are from the same distillery, and I felt I couldn’t include multiple bottles from the same distillery, but maybe I should have thrown in more. I was hesitant to include W12/107 because the secondary is way above $50, but would be 100% on the list for MSRP. I think I would include Stagg over those if I went that route. Cheers 🥃

@ I would gladly pay that and don’t think it’s overpriced. I might pay as much as $75.00. I’ve never got to try the black cap. I’ve had 3 bottles of the blue metal tops. They are ok. Not exceptional I work 3rd shift what’s your excuse for being awake at that time.

You’ll have to let me know how it goes. I don’t have the 46 or 46 cask, but should buy them to test it out. I remember the 46 cask being tannic but that might have just been the recent batch

SLB is a great relationship between a son and father I wish we all had. Love their dialogue and uncut episodes. ADHD has some of the funniest one liners in the industry, love him. Drew Pond’s content is older so not as relevant, but was a big impression on me as I was getting into bourbon.

@ He put out a hunt video here in Houston (Clear Lake area) and it was crazy seeing him in the same stores I frequent. I have a honey hole that I guess his guides didn’t know about. I think he would have really enjoyed that store. Great picks.

​@BourbonRetriever Keep on doing your thing! Funnily enough, I grew up in NOVA but now live/work a bit south of it. I don't think you've discussed it, but maybe I missed it, but would be interesting to know what you think of the latest VA random drop system. from anecdotal observation, there seems to be a general split between whisky hunters & people who like whisky but don’t necessarily always "hunt" for it, either because they can't or because they just don't want to. Personally, I've come to appreciate it a bit more, though I understand it can also be a bit annoying. I do like the random finds, though. Also, you may have already visited them, but Whelans in D.C.'s been getting in some nice whiskies of all types lately. I'm just getting in to whisky seriously (a craft tequila guy mostly) & know them for that, but one of the owners mentioned to me this summer that they're expanding in whiskies too. Their prices run the gamut, but you can find some fair deals. LAX in SE DC has good prices & a good selection too, if you're feeling a bit adventurous (I go not infrequently & I've never had a problem). They also don't have an online inventory (their Beltsville store does, though, & its prices are usually similar to the DC store, within $5-10), so it can be a bit of a crapshoot.

@ I think the new system is best for some bottles but tough for others. In the old system people panic bought non-allocated bottles given they drove their and felt pressured to buy. This would be the eagle rare, blantons, etc. those bottles are now sitting on the shelf and are easier for people to get in a normal amount of time. For the super allocated bottles, like pakers or coy hill, I think it’s a tougher system. They can disappear before more people know about them so feels more unfair. Overall, I thinks it’s better for most people and most bottles, but for the higher end bottles it’s worse

​@BourbonRetriever That’s fair. I see the ones you mention at least every other week now (well, not all of them, but BTs & ERs & Bowman SBs, etc.) but not those harder to find like you mention. Fortunately, though, DC & MD have some of those, though some of the pricing can get nutty. Saw BT on the shelf today, actually. I see BTs a lot now, like every week. Granted, I go to ABC shops probably more than some people, though not necessarily looking for whiskies.

Wow, didn’t know there were ME17 and ME19 out there too. Great info! Thanks for the thoughts on the February batch. Those batches are still floating around VA too. Debating which batches would be good to go in a blind

after i saw this video i went to store and they had LL/ME17. I dont have anything to compare it to but its very good. It was on sale for $41 too
