From what i heard vengeance is just smtv made better (better story, bigger compendium, etc.) but you still have the option to play the normal smtv in it so i guess its like a remake but with more

You can either play the original game with QoL changes (canon of creation) or play an entirely new story that starts out similar but quickly becomes completely different starting from the second Da’at, with all new demons, bosses and 2 new endings. There’s also a new superboss available from just before the end of the game on canon of vengeance, so long as you have a complete save, which upon beating unlocks a miracle that lifts the level cap to 150 and enables godborn ng+ runs, where all enemies are at level 150, for both canons. If you have smtv save data you can also import your active party and save it to the compendium (so long as the demons are non-spoiler), which is neat if you’ve picked up a really good party and want to keep them Finally, the game got the P5R treatment of innate skills on all demons. They’re non-transferable, but very useful, even in the early game (mermaid’s increases the hits of all multihit attacks by 2 (I think) party wide while magatsuhi skills are active)

You get an entirely new route that makes the playtgrough feel more alive and changes sone key moments. One area is aldo completly different in the new route. You chose which route you go at the start of the game. Other than that, 2 more demon DLC you can get and sone QoL things. Being able to talk with your demons in a new resting place location at every leyline is also neat

Having only played the new vengenace route, and from what I've heard online, the game is about the same for the first few areas with the addition of an extra main character and new demons, side quests, bosses, etc. until the plot diverges significantly from the base game's half way through. The new character serves to make you question the original plot of the game and foreshadows the new stuff. Vengeance was a good time but $70 is pretty steep if you've already bought the game before. I'd say it's very worth a purchase on sale if you're interested.

As someone who also played the original, you owe it to yourself to play Vengeance. The new route really makes a world of difference in my feelings towards the game. I'm not finished yet (very close though), but I can say already that it is more than worth it. Definitely going to rank high on that Atlus tier list!
