In 1972 Gian Naz opened the Naaz Theatre on Gerrard St East with a mission to bring Bollywood films to Toronto. The Naaz became a magnet for the sudden influx of Indian and other South Asian immigrants who set up their shops nearby the Theatre and prospered.

After years as a sommelier in the restaurant biz, Jeremy wanted to settle down. Also a certified Fromager, he established a fine cheese shop at the edge of the Gerrard India Bazaar which has been embraced by the local residents.

Moti Mahal has been in Little India since the beginning. Davinder Chada takes a lot of pride in her cooking and since 1976 she has worked in the kitchen from morning to night. She loves her work and boasts about her endless energy.

Dawn Chapman founded her café in 2011, she was one of the first non South Asian businesses to open up in the Bazaar. Lazy Daisy's is a cultural hub for the neighbourhood and supports fundraisers, open mic's, musical performances, art shows and many other events.

Sumaiyah Shah is a talented young henna artist, owner of a bridal event and decor business and mother of two children. She also helps out at her mother's beauty salon. With a degree in criminology and international development, there's not much Sumaiyah can't do!

Tatiana came from Poland to Canada as a young woman. Victoria Whole Foods is her dream business, where she fuses her European shopping preferences with local products. She also sells peirogies at the Festival of South Asia!

Tabla Guru Ritesh Das performed with Western musicians for decades. Then, encouraged by his wife Melissa Das-Arp, he reconnected with his classical roots. The Toronto Tabla Ensemble is a school and performance group modelled after the Indian classical tradition.

This cozy restaurant is a "gem in the city". Tina, Christina, owner Enos and his family work together to prepare and serve their indigenous cuisine to customers. The produce is grown on their farm or comes from reservations up north. It is a peaceful place filled with the laughter of Tina and Christina.

Gurnam Multani works hard. He came to Canada from the Punjab as a young man, became a steel worker and saved enough to invest in a business. Now his wife runs a saree and fashion shop and he owns six buildings in the Bazaar!
