Mitsubishi 6G75 Restoration - Part 1
Просмотров 12 тыс.2 года назад
Mitsubishi 6G75 Restoration - Part 1 Tim and I take apart a wrecker motor to find out it's mostly in perfect condition with even just minimal carbon build up. Factory crosshatch in great condition, and no varnish on the rocker gear at all. More to come in part 2. Credit to Tim G "The Viking" for lending a helping hand.
Magna Dyno Day Footage
Просмотров 2 тыс.4 года назад
Dyno day footage from Jan 2021 testing some different cam and intake setups so we know what works and what doesn't. Did some fuel and timing tweaking to get the most out of the cars. All cars have 6G75 (3.8l) motors. Highest 193kw with DrJohn cams and custom intake. 183kw without custom intake.

Here's the difference some rear shocks can make. The old ones actually still had something left in them and would still expand when compressed.
Volvo ETM behaviour and diagnostic

After a lengthy troubleshooting process on a hard to start S80 I have found a lot of forum posts from people hearing buzzing from the engine bay and clicking noises on various Volvos. The noises heard are ETM related and completely normal. I took a video of what happens when you turn the ignition, it cracks the throttle plate for a while then closes. I also performed an ETM test during this tim...

Amigo una pregunta un bloque 6g75 3.8...le sirve a un motor mivec 6g75 3.8
Please be sure to turn the fan on next time! Great way to warp the heads from overheating without sufficient air flow over the radiator.
Actually the closed deck design on these have to be run without coolant for prolonged periods to warp the heads. That and the ralliart was the last on the dyno on the day so it was cold when it went on, this was a warmup run, the 4-5 tuning runs afterwards the fan was turned on. Thanks anyway chief.
Remote start?
Good memories bro, and 10k views, congrats!
Man I wish you showed the actual change it's like this car doesn't exist to people
the 2.9 litre inline 6 with the 4speed GM trans was a nightmare for majority of users XD
I have a TJ Executive. Has 25 less kW than the Ralliart but damn it rips.
Is this the 6G75 MIVEC? Where can you find Rocker Arms for this motor? I have searched everywhere without any luck.
Very nice man, well done.
Who doesn't like a regular warm-up?
I have the same engine in my '380 '. Love that car.
can I send my Mitsu Endeavor to you :D
Looks almost brand new again. Great work! How many miles did the motor have? My 06 Eclipse GT has 73k miles. Still runs strong. Just curious. Thx!
These are just wrecker motors that are checked over, normally borescope the cylinders and check compression first. New water pump, timing gear, etc. Sometimes even the heads come off, check the head surfaces, new valve stem seals, clean up the intake and exhaust ports, new head gaskets etc.
Just bought a cream puff 06 Eclipse GT with 73k miles. Old lady had it. One owner and kept in a garage. She had it for almost 19 years. Less than 4k miles per year. Very strong 3.8. Super excited about this car for my son. Thx for this video.
I hate how they called these cars "Magna". I don't understand why they didn't just call them Galant or Diamante.
6g75 NM right?
Just had my vrx 5spd manual swapped with a flashed raliart motor from you! Still cant chirp third even with an open diff hahah. Have had headlights from you as well! Love to see the rig on youtube!
This engine was well maintained.
Hey, I was wondering where di you get the headlights?, I'd love a set like that for my VR-X spec Magna
Hey, I was just wondering where you got the headlights from, I have a VR-X spec Magna, and I'd Like to fit those headlights to it
Made them, quad projector LED D2's
why u no lap valves? its so easy and free
Obviously I did, but off camera. You would never go in this deep without doing so. 15 minute job to ensure all valves are sealing 100%
I had a Mitsubishi 380 with this 6G75. Smooth and lots of power, but a thirst like a tin god ! I swapped cars with one of my sons (who needed a reliable car because he was doing significant mileage to and from work) I got his VP Commodore - also a 3.8 V6 - with huge mileage, and it actually used less fuel.
My 380 is excellent on fuel, a great country car😅.
What vehicle is this out of? Also what are some of the main wear points in these engines that need replacing in a rebuild, valve stem seals and lifters maybe, what else?
Would love this engine in my TJ. The original 6G74 is still pretty good though.
Owners love their Jeeps but are never satisfied with their engines. I wish to have a 6G73 in my KJ...hahaha
If these came out in RWD, they would have achieved legendary status.
Theyd be slower
Not everything needs to be rwd ffs
Yep , worked at mitsu when they were being sold , the 4wd running gear and mystical turbo test mule was supposed to be coming through to rip the commodore and jump on at the time the turbo sedan segment with the commodore and xr6 . Unfortunately 12 months in , turbo mule development canned . 4wd with adjustable rear bias rumours followed with canning . All mechanics and sales guys were so excited for what maybe was to come . Mitsubishi announced the 380 . They missed the mark . Then pulled manufacturing all together . Australia’s 07 govt didn’t buy up Holden fleets despite having a hybrid available and went to bmw and Prius . The gurus above lost all tooling and manufacturing ability to private sale and international expansion . Mitsubishi opened it factory elsewhere with Holden and Ford Australia being shut down . The big 3 crumbled in months . The news reported it 24 months after . De-Industrlised with corruption sold to us as Green House progression . Now the market is flooded with hybrid depreciation .
I have a Sports, still with the original 3.5L. A decent car indeed.
My 6G75 is a little different then that one
These cars are wicked its sad how underrated they are How ever thats kind of a good thing cause it makes for a good laugh when an SV6 or XR6 gets chomped by em
This engine suits me to a tee great low end power and if driven carefully capable of great economy . An ideal travelling companion.
I changed the timing belt, tensioner and water pump. Biggest job I've ever done. Was so nervous on first start up.
I've driven over 1600 km never exceeding 2000 rpm in my 380. You don't have to rev them.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
how many kms were on it when you bought it?
Love the 1st 2nd 3rd gear chirpys .. they go even better with port n polish n ramflow. Stock youll get 4 th to chirp to... ... been there done that ......
I have a 380 with the cams from the Raliart Magna installed. Rare beast. Sounds similar to yours.
The cams from the ralliart 3.5 motors and the 380 3.8 engines are exactly the same. Some more lift and duration over the standard cams.
@@JBurford I was just being silly, love my 380.
How much did you bording the head of the engine
What is the difference between 6g74 and 6g75
+300cc to 3.8l better cams flat top pistons higher compression much larger valves = better flowing heads
Love it!
What are the specs/procedure you use for the head bolt torque?
Factory specs inside to outside in clockwise pattern. I forget the exact torque setting off the top of my head but it's the same for all of the Mitsubishi 6G family.

Brilliant work mate, these are awesome motors
I will start my cleaning and rebuilding of my 2003 monter 6g75 if I have bent valves or damaged pistons do you recommend any aftermarket parts to upgrade? and any tips for rebuilding the motor
There's really no need to use any big aftermarket parts unless you're planning forced induction, even then if you use good fuelling a stock engine will take it just fine. The only thing I would maybe recommend is cam gears and you can tune the stock cams for some more torque, that also leaves things open to tuning aftermarket cams if you got some down the track.
@@JBurford cool,i just wanted maby to make a little more rilable i want to build an overland rig out of it. Thanks for your feed back
@@DSERUR24did you ever do it ? I have an 06 and I’m thinking what I’ll do in future if my engine goes bad
@Scottadamsfan3481 hey how's it going, well I got mine non running, for 1k so I figured I can put up to 3k without loosing , but I had to put stop to the 03 till I fix my 98 that's my daily right now.. but I from research I don it's better just to rebuild than do swap for a eclipse Gt one, need to reprogram ECU for the mivec to work..
O and yes I did have bent valves looks like the owner before me never did maintenance and probably never changed the tensioner and it jumped time and bent valves, the back and pistons look fine thow.. looks like after machining everything already did the heads I'll need new cooling system , I'll probably do ARP head studs and MLS head gasquet if I do in the future put a centrifugal supercharger nothing crazy just 7 psi boost for extra power baby..
I have this engine in my 380 VRX! Really nice. Do you think heavier valve springs would rid me of the lifter tick? I've heard it's not good for the cams. Also any recommendations on parts like pistons, rods, crank and cams? Perhaps individual intakes (kinda like an ITB if that makes sense, I don't know much about those but they look cool!)
The main thing you should look for with the 380 is someone that can tune them to remove the triple cats and get a better intake snorkel on it. The 380s were detuned for the next step of euro emissions so they make less power than if you were to put them in a magna. The exhaust is heavily restricted and they came out with the same 4 cylinder intake snorkel as the lancers. Regular oil changes and proper oil level should keep the lifter tick down unless they are worn out. Not too bad of a job to replace them.
Lifter tick is either low oil, wrong oil, it worn lifters. Heavier valve springs are only to control valve float at higher rpm, you want the lightest valve spring that allows complete control over the valve at the rpm the engine is being used. If you use more, it increases wear and tear and reduces power
@@1616Rotor They don't have lifters.
@@1magnit lifter/tappets etc still work on the same principle of oil in them.
The master stikes again
How did you get the head surfaces so clean?
The butchers block and sand paper in the picture, just before the resurfacing clips :)
Juicy AF
Hi, i got a 2003 montero limited, the same motor in it that you have in this vid, but mine has no compression , wondering if you have any advice on what to look for to trak down the problem. Thanks
If you're not getting any compression in any cylinders you need to check the timing. If the timing it out it can cause no compression. Same with an overheated engine the heads can warp.
@@JBurford Hi, thanks for the tip i will check this weekend the timing belt, when i turn the key the motor only spins but no ignition, new fuel pump , i took a look at the valves when i opend the oil cap and the moved freely , was thinking the piston rings probably stuck and leting the compresion escape, but i will chek timing , bught the montero like that so i dont have a history of what might of hapend to it. Thank you for your help i apriciated.
These magnas do alright
Any part 2?
