Back then parliament had ab-so-lu-te-ly-no-thing-to-do-with-"the"-"people"! That's a modern lore!
I think.a limited democracy is preferable

Please direct me to your comments on hiding behind civilians while keeping kidnapped civilians in tunnels in Gaza
I’m going to assume this is a good faith challenge and not at shitpost. Here’s my take: The conflict in Palestine is an obvious ethical morass but the implicit claim in your comment is that Hamas is justified in a human shield strategy (or rather that I would think so). I don’t think so. And that is because there is a clear and obvious duty to minimise harm to non-combatants even in instances where it puts combatants at greater risk. Waiving principles of non-combatant immunity is an incredibly high bar and it is unclear that this conflict meets it. This duty also attaches to Israel. As I mention at the end of the video there is a principle of double intention that needs to be followed in war and it applies universally.
I don't know how I feel about Just Stop Oil. On one hand, I wish they didn't ruin that painting. That was really mean. On the other, I can't help but feel how insignificant the loss must be, compared with the destruction of entire cities and nations, such as Venice and Tuvalu. How much art and culture would be lost if flooding in the Basilica di San Marino, not to mention the museums of Venice, fell into disrepair, or once, not if, the people of Tuvalu are scattered? I guess I would object to their actions on the grounds of how much they've really accomplished. I think that they could be using their time better, maybe through guerilla gardening or obstructing construction vehicles and oil tankers specifically, to slow specifc destructive projects. To me, Just Stop Oil is as effectual as an awareness campaign, but as obnoxious as direct action, and that they should just commit to direct action. Edit: They didn't even ruin the painting. I should've watched ahead.
Thanks for your comment! I had the same reaction when I saw the first protest. I was fuming but it got me thinking. However there is certainly an issue with people getting so angry they don’t pay attention to the message. What’s the point if your actions only alienate?
@@drblunt So true! I'd definitely be more inclined to that latter viewpoint. Then again, who am I to judge their acts of protest and resistance when I do so little to help myself? Maybe while I complain about their actions, I should consider how I can resist, and thereby put some weight behind my words. Perhaps all this concern about the failings of others should be paired by actively demonstrating my viewpoint's superiority. Not accepting the failures of others as an inevitability but also doing better wherever I can. I don't know. Btw, your videos are really interesting. I've been binge watching them over the past couple days. Thank you so much.
I love this idea of the law having to prove it's worth to the public, rather than demanding submission as an inherent obligation. I believe that all laws and all institutions should should serve the greatest share of humanity possible, to the greatest extent possible, and if they fail to do so they should either be reformed or abolished. Respect those not mean an unquestioned subordinance to authority, but mutual respect between people and customs which serve a positive purpose.
Indeed, lots of people conflate what 'is' with what 'ought to be'. The simple fact of a law does not make it worthy of respect. It is in how it is made and how it effects people that determines its value.
great video! I appreciate this and your clear breakdown of arguments justifying war.
i do think it could benefit from on screen titles and writing out concept/key terms on-screen.
Thanks! Glad you liked the video and I’ll take effort to get some more titles for the next run of videos!

Murder and killing are different motives. I wonder how an A.I. war would classified or the use A.I. war robots? Thank you.
Very true. AI is going to present some serious problems in the ethics of war. In the one hand it could be used to limit battlefield casualties by being coded against killing non-combatants. On the other it it could automatically cause escalation if certain boxes get ticked. I might do a video because there is a lot to unpack including who would be ethically responsible for AI weapons. Thanks for asking and for watching!
“He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.” ~Albert Einstein
Law is deadly force it is up to the individual to carry their cross and decide how far they are willing to go. BOOM!
all's fair in love and war
Dr Blunt always keeps it real
Always fam
I love being a republican!
Boris Johnson but with a conscience? That's like saying an astronaut that doesn't go into space!
can't wait to watch this
Hi Dr Blunt. Thank you so much for explaining this subject. I'm studying Political Theory and I still don't fully understand the relationship between positive freedom and totalitarianism and/or similar regimes. I think I got confused when I read the sections about "status" and "Sarastro's temple"
Hi, thanks for watching. I’ll be posting up some new content soon and will try to do a quick video to answer your questions. Sorry for taking so long answering!
The government dictators imposed a jab mandate upon us, thereby violating our freedom of choice. Refusing it was unacceptable to them, and punished. Communism cloaked beneath an external facade of "democracy".
It is one of those things that make up deciding factors within the equation determining whether particular persons life is even worth living.
I am so happy that I stumbled across this channel! Funny and smart host, and also a great communicator. Thank you for making these videos on Republicanism.
Thanks so much! New content is coming this weekend. Hope you tune in!
Hmmmmm... Anti-Masonic, anti-Catholic, anti-"international banker", and anti-communist conspiracies u say ..? Ya all four of those groups like to make the paranoia accusation huh.
I really like your videos. And I became interested in republicanism. However, it seems to me that it contradicts itself at a specific point. From what I understand, democracy can only be maintained if there is a network of shared beliefs and non-interference from arbitrary power. However, how to establish this network of belief? Who will establish which are the best beliefs to be shared? Doesn't this necessarily have to be an imposition? Going deeper, doesn't the government impose its will on citizens from school? Don't parents also impose their will? I know the word of the day is "responsibility," the government and parents can't do as they please. Because if they do, they will be punished, but who chose this punishment? And this only works if the system discovers these infractions...
It would make sense if it was Homelander
Republicanism seems a bit flawed. A part from non domination - the arbitrary power of someone else - it hasn't got any intrinsic values. I'd say that the Libertarian Left, with Hillel Steiner, is more to my liking. Better both. In juxtaposition. Like Thomas Paine.
Parliamentarian democracies, such as my native Sweden, don't have checks and balances. Hence the parliament reigns supreme. It sucks.
Because global poverty is "designed" so the MNCs and Rich Countries can benefit from the poor as their global market. I can't blame the MNCs and Rich Countries to do so, because they are opportunistic. My question is, can you make a book that outcrop the ways, how is a poor country can become a Rich Country or escape poverty? We knew that Singapore was poor back then, but now it is become a Rich Country in southeast Asia. I belief if you write that book, your book will become the standard manual book for many countries and societies to escape poverty. I belief the richer the poor countries can lead to the richer the MNCs and existing Rich Countries.
woah just found your channel, AMAZING thoughts.
Complete nonsense
Promo*SM 😴
Did you mean federal districts? What about 2 tiered justice system? What about globalist agenda 2030,WEF? Dude you live in a nice protected bubble.
democracy dont seem to accept personal decision , democracy utilise popularity to decide for someone else and that nazi
"Conspiracy Theorist" is a pejorative term used for discrediting criticism and avoiding criminal liability.
Conspiracies do not exist. Therefore, everyone convicted by the courts of conspiracy has been a victim of a miscarriage of justice.
It's almost like we all realize something isn't right, but dunno what to do about it
Good point, conspiracy theories often seem like distractions from actual and very daunting social problems.
4:39 omg so funny
Living out my secret dream of being a comedian instead of an academic.
You are mush, you make me sick.
We aren’t a democracy we’re a republic Dr.
You want to talk republicanism and democracy? Stay tuned.
Conspiracy theories because of all the conspiracies. Democrats against democracy. Good man
"What is a conspiracy theory ?" For real ? We are still stuck at that ? Let's see how hard it is to 'define' "conspiracy theory". Conspiracy theory. Conspiracy theory.... It's a theory about a possible/potential conspiracy. Theories are helpful in science because they help find answers. There we go. That was fucking easy.
Yeah.. Like US government planting CIA and FBI in social media platforms. What do u call that?
who starts a sentence with "however"?
Someone whose spliced this out of longer content
Virtually all politicians and media have never had a proper job but insist on foisting their views on grateful Western populations. It's called kakistocracy and we see the collapse of Western countries thanks to these people.
There is no democracy 😂😂😂
It’s pretty feeble.
Talking about " conspiracy theories" then quotes the actual conspiracy theory that the capital was " attacked" , it also seems like people in every country apart from America knows that Bidens win was dodgy AF! Now there is a conspiracy to stop Trump running for the office, an actual conspiracy.
Joe Biden couldn’t steal a passing grade in college without getting caught.
Just so, but a large number of people think he stole that election (without proof)
The truth always shines through in a democratic system, in authoritarian systems the truth is punished.
I hope you are right but without strong civic culture democracies can descend into delusion.
If only algorithms, viruses, and hacking couldn't make all this go horribly wrong.
Yeah, the idea of AI utopia just doesn’t convince. Best case scenario they keep us as pets.
@drblunt Lol, yeah, true!
So a silicon dictator
Yep, I don’t like it but that is the argument that AI epistocrats make.
Void of all our biases but kinda loaded with creators biases... 🎉
Yep and that’s the ultimate failing of AI Utopianism
So you don’t want democracy! What does that make you?
I want democracy, I just want a better democracy that can meet these criticisms.
This is unbased propaganda! You opinion hasn't been proven, it all speculation!
Sir, my propaganda is very based
@drblunt You said that right, YOUR PROPAGANDA!
