Not sure how helpful this will be. Just uploading it to save proof that I did the job!
Proof that I rebuilt the rear suspension and added subframe reinforcement plates.

Removing old power steering hoses and reservoir and installing this kit: oembimmerparts.com/products/bmw-e46-3-series-power-steering-hose-refresh-kit I do not have torque specs for this :( UPDATE: After 2 days I started to hear a weird noise. I found out that the correct Power Steering fluid for my vehicle is: CHF 11s. So I flushed it and refilled it with the right stuff and so far the noise is...

Awesome, glad I could help!
Merry belated xmas 2024. I found this very helpful. Good camera angles . What brand high pressure hose did you use and has it held up for the last 3 years. Thank you for publishing this job.
I don't remember the brand off hand but I always buy OEM. If I can find the original brand for cheaper I will go that way. So far no issues with this job since!
Oh oops, I have the kit that I used in the description
oembimmerparts.com/products/bmw-e46-3-series-power-steering-hose-refresh-kit-by-rein
Thank you so much for your response. Again that was a really good video. I have not seen one dealing with the high pressure hose in helpful detail. Your channel is unique to me with other channels videos included. That was cool. Happy new year and thank you again.
About how many hours was the job start to finish? (actual working hours)
Very helpful video. I will connect airbag before turn on the ignition for window moving. Disconnect airbag will trip airbag light.
Thanks appreciate the description have you ever looked into the night core headlamp Pretty bright gives out great light for the size.
Was any part broken or did you just clean them?
I bought new parts because I assumed something would have been broken. But everything was intact. It was just really hard grease build up that needed to be cleaned off and re-greased.
Did you start with your feet on the back pegs?
Yes, I had them on the rear pegs before I popped the front wheel up.
Thanks for tus vídeo 🎉
Many thanks. Especially for the detailed look at the hard to reach screw location toward the control panel. Managed it without seeing it while removing/installing it.
Thank you, I appreciate the video but IMHO you glossed over the difficulty related to the rear motor mount. I'm no professional but I consider myself a very experienced shade tree and I've done other FWD clutches. I'm writing this after a few hours of still trying to get out bolt #3 top behind the motor mount.
What is preventing you from getting that bolt out ?
There are three bolts from the motor mount to the Trans. One is exposed and easy. Two sit in the middle of the "U" with the motor mount behind. Can't get a socket on it and can't get much leverage with a box wrench. The one on the top only gave me about an inch and a half L literally just got them out after many hours. Humorously I have no clue yet how I'm going to get them back, Remove the motor mount after the Trans is out I guess. Thank you for asking. @@morantb
I think I know which one you are talking about. I had to wrap a string around the bolt in the direction needed so that when I unwind it it threads in. Then I held the bolt against the hole with a long screwdriver while I pulled the string with the other hand.
Not sure I can top that but it's going in my bag of tricks. To get enough leverage to break the top rusted bolt free I held a box wrench in with a screw driver then attached a length of chain hooked over the open end of the wrench to a come-a-long and the hitch on my van. Clunky but it worked. @@morantb
Should have changed rear main seal while you were doing this
Dude, tou skipped pver the exact part I was watching for. Tumbler doesnt just magically slide out like that...
Mine did in my his a element
Mine came out just like that
I’m having the same issue
Oh, try putting the key in the ignition to get all the pins to drop into place then pull it out
Ya, mine took a hammer to get out!
What jig is that you are using
Google search this "Time-Sert BMW 3 & 5 Series Head Bolt Thread Kit with Plate" and it should come up
Awesome video!
super helpful! im replacing the head gasket on my 96 Z3 and was a bit nervous, this definitely helped a lot
You didn't show how you get that Rear Transmission Mount apart🤔🤔🤔 Looks like it will be Fun
Yeah sorry about that. I got into it and forgot to record. Some angles were hard to get on film while working as well.
Hey! I've gotten to the point you gently remove the tumbler. Mine is stuck, what's next? 😢
You mean you can not remove it from the steering column?
Yes.
Same problem
I was having the same issue. I put a key in it and jiggled it a few times and it came out.
this is a great video you did an awesome job thank you
boss i have a question how high should i lift the scion from the ground to remove the transmission in the bottom. thanks for the answer boss
I used QuickJacks which lift the car 17" off the ground and that was good. Cant remember if less would have worked or not.
no pilot bearing??,,,,no NEW flywheel?....and some poeple comment to you good job....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA...i wouldnt trust your work
For a second there I thought you were showing off the fact that your hood support rod clip isn't broken @2:10 hahahaha
Vibing !! Cant do it without the music !!
Definitely gotta have that music !!
How do you get the bolt out from the passenger side above where the axle is located? Mine is stuck because the metal guard thingy is blocking it.
I need to see a pic of what you are referring to?
How can I share a pic with you?
@@mizk419 do you know where in the video I am working on this bolt?
@@mizk419 At 12:40 in the video where I refer to "The third mount bolt from under the car", is this the bolt you are asking about? For that bolt I was able to squeeze a combo wrench in there and unscrew the bolt little by little.
@@mizk419 Can you take a pic of the bolt in question on your car and upload it to your account and send me the link?
Thanks for posting this - I found it VERY helpful and informative, and really appreciate the details and lessons learned. Super video!!
DIY Hero!!
What is the tool called that he used to suspend the transmission from?
Engine Support Bar
@@morantb Man not sure why I didn't ask sooner. I've been scouring the internet and not even google could pull it up with my description. Thank You!
Why didn’t the centering tool work? Also, thanks for the video, I have to change out my clutch in my 2006 xB soon
I tried to modify it to work but couldn't make it happen. The shape of the end wasn't correct for fitting into the fly wheel center.
My window is stuck on the up position can I still get the job done with it up? Nevermind that, now I can't get window back on
What's the problem exactly? Did you regrease the slides after you took the window off?
@@morantb yes but I used silicone spray lubricant. At first my window was stuck all the way up past where it should be able to go. But I brought it down and then my new clips weren't fitting. And the only way for me to get them to fit was to shave the edges down a Lil. Idk how that's going to affect them after it is all put back together.
@@raymondreyes8046 let me know how it goes
@@morantb done but it's so dark outside I wasn't sure so I'll have to check in the morning 🌄
I am currently having this issue. Window is stuck all the way up and won’t budge. Are you saying you could remove the glass and that made the mechanism move freely again??
The way I did it was to flood it all through the window seal with silicone spray and it worked well for me lol.
Though I had to clean the windows for awhile but not that bad
What's with the zip ties?
Can't remember, can you paste the time in the video where I use them?
@@morantb 4:41
@@martinmacias246 Ah yes, that mechanism will spring apart if the zip ties aren't there to hold it together. Not a big deal. It goes back together relatively easy.
I like that move it's clever, just did it on mine!
Well Done! I have this issue with my M Roadster and this is a short cut to the real fix. Thanks for the video. I think I will clean and reinstall the old stuff with new lubricants. I'm sure it is like you said. Grease gets hard and sticky over the years and causes resistance.
Hey just wanted to say great job! All the other video I seen people take off bumper and radiator and fluids just alot extra.. I'm going to be Doing my clutch next week and this was very helpful thank you.👍
Yeah not sure why they take the whole front bumber off, it's def not needed. Glad it helped!
This was a great video straight to the point and good angles. Did you mean remove passenger wheel off? @ 29:40 in video. And is it easier to separate tranny from engine with both axels out just like you did the driver side in video? Thanks.
Yes just like I did on the driver's side, I would also remove the passenger side wheel and axle to make it easier to reinstall the axles into the transmission.
Thank you! I bought my first Scion the day you posted this. Greatly appreciated. I've done plenty of clutches, just never a Toyota. There is no pilot bearing on these?
I'm not sure about the pilot bearing. This is my first time doing this job and the only things that came in the clutch kit were the clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing.
The best video I have found! THANK YOU!!
Whats that back part called on the top left it clips to hold the leather jn
Are you referring to the rubber cap type thingy?
Great video, used it for reference A LOT!
Awesome!
Need to do this to my M54 most likely, where can I purchase this kit?

What type of socket adapter are you using?
Im using a multi sized motorcycle front wheel axel removal tool that just happens to be the right size
Please keep it up!! I think you will be interested in P r o m o s m!
Going to try this, window went down unevenly and will not come back up. the control arm is like $400 ouch
Let me know how it goes
Yeah there is a good chance the grease just got old and hard and is now holding the window from sliding . Let me know if you have any questions
👍👏👏
I am confused on what you did here?! Did you put new ninja star gears on or did you clean everything and put the old stuff on? I appreciate the video good work.
I just took it apart piece by piece for practice. I figured I would get it on video incase it helped someone else who wants to take apart their tranny
Oops thought this was my other video for some reason. Yeah The window was really really slow on the drivers side and the passenger side was sticking. So I remove it and put in new plastic clip thingys and re greased it. Basically the grease gets really hard after years and can not slide which is what causes the window to get stuck.
Interesting video!
Whats the deal with the audio?
Had to remove it because of licensing issues
Thanks for the video! do you want to buy my z3?
What is the year and mileage ?
What is the Liter size ?
