OUR SERGEANT MAJOR (Nice Version) Now, proud of him are we, he's generous as can be, So sentimental, kind and gentle, our sergeant major. Would love this in hires.
All English people look like George Formby to me...pin headed, bug eyed and with a mouth full of teeth going in every direction. Just kidding...the English are a handsome lot...really...maybe not by French or Italian standards, mind you. Going just on looks, the English are equivalent to a Bulgarian or maybe a Latvian?
My father had many old 78 records and so I heard them also.
What is cute is the officers are obviously in on the joke.
Why don't they use the term "banjolele"?
Saturday morning at the ABC Cinima watching George Formby movies for a tanner (sixpence) I'm 66yrs old now and still remeber with a smile those days of exitment as a kid to see a black and white movie on the pictures :)
"We are the boys and girls well know as, minors of the ABC"
"Words often appear different at 10 o'clock at night." Best line of the whole thing.
I was in Oakwood Avenue school just a short walk from Warrington Cemetrery on the day of Georges funeral. At assembly everyone was told not to go but me and two friends went anyway. When we got back late from lunch we were all put on detention for disobeying Miss Jones our headmistress. Think George would have approved and had a little chuckle 🤩
My Grand Father wrote a lot of songs for GF and film songs,H😅s name is Frederick E Cliffe
I Admired George Formby, as a child, his talent with the yke, was outstanding, l loved how he always exuded such joy an happiness, he is such an all time inspiration.❤️🙏
Well done Frank, loads of smiles watching that. Well you cannot not smile can you?
Absolutely fascinating 🤩
That looks like SOOO much fun !!!!
SO FUNNY!
I love George Formby, but since when did they have a 'Sergeant Major' in the Royal Air Force?
Wonderful. Enjoyed again.
Get rightfully brought up on charges of insubordination and get the CSM sent to the Guard Room, what a hero. ❤
Legend 😁
Gorge Formby Against Just Stop Oil nutters.
Just listen to them beautiful smooth thumb rolls on that sweet sounding abbot of his !
A classic song with a cheeky little man who having a good time at the sergeant major expense but keep it to a joke level.
A joy to watch
Watching this Memorial Day weekend, 2023. George wasn't in the military but he went all around the war zones in WW2 entertaining the troops for ENSA. He deserves to have honors too. Thanks for the tour friend. 🌌
RIP George. My mother Joan loved him. X
During the last war in the Far East the troops used to get film shows when not in action. The British troops found that the Indian troops, and particularly the Gurkhas, loved George Formby films and never tired of them.
George was a true human being and that's what shone through.. His wife was his shield and she made him despite what people said about her.
Frank really is a very intelligent presenter.
George was a huge star in the 1930s and 40s. The highest paid performer at one time I believe.
He’s amazing so I would honestly believe it if he was
What an amazing band! Fantastic musicians!
And now it’s time to knock it down to build a car park
yep its been sheduled for demo since april 2023 ..so sad to see another 1930s built cinema go that way ....i know they are hard to keep up on maintenence given thier age ..and a lot of them were left to rot after they closed as cinemas or bingo halls ..if they aint particulary art deco or have had the original guts ripped out of em like the gaumount then they dont get listed ....Im hoping the old gaumount /odeon/ metro in Ashton dont come to the same fate someone has bought it and are trying to restore it .they have a LOT of work to do on it since it closed as the Metro and was left to rot ....seen som pics of the inside and were the circle bar ect was is in a right state (that section had a flat roof so you can imagine what the damage from water ingress is like)
I'm old enough to remember George and I'm grateful that I am. He was a little ray of sunshine.
Bloody ell I'm surprised he hasn't been posthumously cancelled
Leopard skin tiger rugs?
Never been a fan of George Formby, but I'm watching 'Goodnight Sweetheart' atm so I thought I would. Plus I love Frank!
A great entertainer sadly missed! We'll never see his like again
Strange as we all know that in fact he was gay. But all in all a very wonderfull artiste.
Do we?
He was not gay! 😀
Gay as in happy he definitely was
Thank you. Very interesting, I enjoyed it a lot.
By all accounts, he was gornless and cretinous in real life.
Not by "all accounts " obviously. 🤣
Those in glass houses….
I had a friend who went to school with the sister of George Formby (Junior). Their father George (Formby Senior) used to come to the school and do comedy acts for the children. This was before the first world war as my friend was born in 1904. Time passes.
George is what pure joy looks like
Beryl was from Showmen (fairgrounds) was she not?
Only one complaint - its not long enough ! still superb though
Paul McCartney had a hit with ukulele in the song Dance Tonight
🥰
Brilliant doc
As long as I’m around this man will be an absolute star! Love the music love the movies and love the man 👌
