I hate old ships. Going on this ship Friday 7/12/24 for my husband’s Family reunion. I wasn’t too enthused from the get go but now I’m really not

We cruised for 1st time on February 2024. We stayed at The Haven. I was a reluctant cruiser, loved the experience!!! Going back in November and again in February. The only confusing thing for us was the tipping. We paid gratuities ahead, and the buttler and steward made clear to us on embarcation day that they would like their tip at the beginning of the trip. We tipped generously, but it felt kind of uncomfortable. What do you usually do for them? Thank you

I've heard that the new ships in NCL fleet like the Viva, Prima and Aqua all have dramatically increased the size of the Haven...rumors have it that the service has suffered and it's not the same "exclusive" feel you get on ships like the Bliss, Encore, Joy...much more crowded...we've only been on the Bliss and that Haven experience is always amazing, going again in May 2025...something to factor in to your plans, maybe.

yes....yes it is worth it...IMO...and ALWAYS fly in the day before...in Seattle we always stay precruise hotel at the Edgewater...it's literally steps to the ship...ENJOY!!!!...its the one time we go all out and enjoy an amazing week.

It's easy to fix this. If you don't like kids, don't go, please! 😂 Stop complaining about kids going on the cruise 🛳. Don't go to icon of the seas it's a place for family.

We ONLY cruise NCL Haven. It's a completely different experience than being in with general population. If you can afford it, do it. You won't be disappointed. You'll be one of 300 instead of one of 4-5000.

Spent a week on Odyssey and was disappointed just wasn't as enjoyable as the smaller ships and the food was bland

We did the "Escape" Nov. 2023 to/from Bermuda and it was a BIG change from our dozen cruises on DCL. Not all bad, but different. The vibe of casino smoke and 1970's shopping mall in the 7-8-9 district kept me from exploring a bit, to my detriment. Mostly, the food and service were fine, with the standard NCL up-sell. Entertainment was m'ehh (compared to Disney) and room steward had other places to be. Seemed that there were 4,000+ passengers on a 3,000 passenger ship as the elevator congestion was terrible and the disembarkation in NYC was Spirit airline quality. But the Spa was awesome, the specialty dining was ++, the service/people were very nice, and the choice of itineraries is great and the rooms are not small. So we are going again . . . The "Getaway" this coming October from New Orleans . . . and yes, per your review, jumping on the Haven when the price difference isn't too, too different. The express dis/embarkation seems like a + and appreciate your review of their restaurant and uncrowded spa/pool area. I don't drink alcohol and prefer a certain soft drink (which I can bring on Disney but NOT on NCL !?!). We'll see what the Butler can do about that?

NOT WORHT THE MONEY....We just cruised the Haven on the VIVA from San Juan to Lisbon Portugal (Aprill 2024), 19 days. I think overall they could have done much better. The first off the ship is a joke, there were people jumping the line ques to run over to the buses. We had one jerk run right over top of my wife and I confronted this juice monkey...he finally backed down when he realized that everyone on the platform was watching him and his moronic behavior, that is the Haven we experienced. So, basicallly we spent 19 days on the ship and I would not buy the Haven room again. There are basically no perks worth the money that you pay. You eat the same food, take the same excursions (no extra perk on the excursions either). The only benifit to the Haven is a set of two(2) private Haven elevators that were under repair a lot of the time, so no service. The pool area and hot tub area are subject to screaming children just like everywhere else on the ship. Save your money and book 3 cruises for the price of the Haven, hard pass from here on. Sorry NCL, it is a good gimick. The Concierge is hit and miss, our guy gave us the wrong bus ticket numbers one day and that was a disaster. So again, you end up doing all the same stuff with all the other people on the ship at the same time. Cattle call to disembark with the heard, no upgrade really, just a bit of private space at the back of the ship (lots of smoke from the exhaust here as well, all the chairs were black and sooty, ruined 2 pairs of shorts, but NCL did pay us for the damages here). We have been on 6 different cruise lines just to let you know.

Been on 17 RCCL cruises of all classes of ships without one bad sailing (even through a hurricane). Have not sailed on anything less than 7 days. Maybe that’s the problem (not that this is an acceptable excuse). We are loyal to Royal.

My only complaint was the private outdoor deck areas were closed due to “weather”/“wind” almost every day when I cruised Alaska years ago. My favorite: the forward-facing indoor scenic lounge space. Sitting there with a warm beverage and reading a book was so cozy

My wife and I have booked a balcony and a daily rate just for service was $ 40 a day .Is there a service charge at Haven pre day for the room

I just hate that they are returning to the now long dead class system on ships. The golden age of cruising is dying.

Just got off the Freedom two weeks ago (Feb 2024) and was very disappointed, couldn't wait to disembark. Admittedly, however I am comparing the 3 day Freedom to a 14 day Oceania (Sirena) that we had taken just prior to boarding the Freedom. What I was most shocked about was the class of people on board. For example, in the Buffet, the crowd was so unruly that it reminded me of recent scenes of relief trucks distributing supplies to starving persons in Gaza- pushing and shoving- cutting in line as if their life depended on getting some nourishment. The main pool deck was LOUD LOUD , and even in 18+ pool there was no escaping the screaming, whoopping and hollering. Even in on our Veranda (deck 9) the cabin to our right had music blaring, and the cabin to our left housed some nutty person who was yelling over the rail, "WHOO HOO" over and over again. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience .

Is there a drink package included in a Heaven booking? And are gratuities for the package extra.

Maybe go on the 70000 tons of metal cruise on this ship. A ship full of people that don’t complain over a few cups here and there. Or a plate of foot that is left by someone. Just fun and good heavy metal music

I’m sailing on the Haven in a couple weeks is the premium beverage package i.e. the more expensive alcohol included in the Haven or do I have to purchase it separately as a package?

I'm on Freedom of the Seas right now, February 5th, 2024. I can't agree with you more. The food was absolutely terrible. It is mostly undercooked. It is also obvious "old" sitting out for long periods of time. Our beverages are not good. Even the soda machines 2 are located on 5 and 2, located in the Windjammer, which is closed for long periods throughout the day. They are always out of the main flavors, too. I'm not happy at all with Royal Carribean anymore. Coca Cay is also absolutely terrible. Pools are way to cold, and RC just wants to make money on us for their boring island. Also Labadee Haiti is even worse. After 9 cruises, my family is done with Royal Carribean. Especially when you pay 60 per person for a steak that tastes like low-grade meat. Don't waste your money, y'all. Long time RC Cruiser. RC needs investigated for mistreatment of their employees. They are like slaves working nonstop for 9 months at a time fed even worse food than the RC customers. Their pay is like less than minimum wage. Back to normal vacations on the land for our family. 😢

What about the food? Would you say is good? Ive seen some comments of people saying is mediocre:(

We have been on this ship 3 times and absolutely love it, we will be on it again in April but will probably be our last on this ship. Have Wonder and Star booked next. Royal has its ups and downs, but we will always be Loyal to Royal.

How do you get your steaks cooked? Are you a well done guy?

Don’t know what to say other then I’ve have a 100% opposite experience with Royal and on Freedom. I’ve been on Freedom 3 times in 2023 and non of the above mentioned problems ever came up at least not to us. Maybe this guy is just a person that’s had a lot of bad luck or Royal has cleaned up pretty fast. My opinion he must had a bad experience with Royal that has nothing to do with everything he’s mentioning in this video. Maybe something like not getting something he wanted and or a lost deposit who really know. I think not even an inspector would find so many bad things in a single cruise. I believe everyone has an opinion and I opinion is this guy must be mad about something and this is why he made this video criticizing everything or just about everything on this cruise. I also think the people on this/those ship really work hard to make it right for everyone all the time and it’s really hard and not possible to be perfect. This guy should buy a boat for himself next time he wants to go out on the water.

You must have never cruised Carnival. We normally cruise RCL and after cruising Carnival I can’t wait to return to RCL. Carnival is 10 times worse than your reviews. All of my family members noticed the difference. You did mention customer service was an issue so I am guessing the cruise industry is experiencing the same issue. Remember, COVID hit the cruise industry real hard so it may take a while to get new people spun up because they let a lot of people go. I am assuming this is one of the issues as they lost a lot of experience.

I heard the Haven restaurant menu doesn't change for the duration of the cruise. Is that still the case?

For some reason, short cruises tend to be a problem with drinkers.

We literally just came off this ship cruise the 13th of this month (October) and to be honest I agree with you on some of the food. The main dining room food was amazing to us however the buffet was ok at best, Cococay food was good too. Our voyage was clean but occasionally I would see a plate or cup left somewhere however it was only there for a few mins. Overall this was our first cruise and I would completely do it again.
