Angle and Benoit were WWE Tag Team Champions, not World Tag Team Champions. In 2002 Smackdown held a tournament to have it's own Tag titles and this was won by Angle and Benoit at No Mercy. The titles that were on Raw then became the World Tag Team Championships. So the actual lineage for these titles is not the WWE Tag Team titles that Angle and Benoit won, it is the World Tag Team Championships that were held on Raw.

Got some omissions on this list. Blackjack Mulligan won his 2nd US title on November 28, 1976. He lost to Paul Jones who won his 3rd holding it for 11 days before losing it back to Mulligan on December 15, 1975. Mulligan was on his 3rd reign when Bobo Brazil beat him. Greg Valentine beat Flair on July 26, 1980 in a reign that lasted 121 days. Flair beat Valentine back on November 24, 1980 thus becoming the first 5 time United States champion. Piper beat Flair on January 27, 1981. Flairs 6th and record setting final reign was on July 7, 1996.
