Since talking about the Alan Parsons Project on my channel, I’ve got I Robot, Pyramid, Eve, Turn of a Friendly Card, Eye in the Sky, Ammonia Avenue and Vulture Culture on vinyl. Haven’t seen this one in the wild but I found it … intriguing if nothing else 😂 nice to hear your thoughts on this album and to see you come up on my feed again. Hope all is well with you, all the best from England !
@FreeVinylDiscovery-fo7cb great to be hearing from you again, Sam. Doing fine, thankfully. Hope you also had a good year? I see you have most of the APP albums by now 😄 any particular favourite? Any particular favourite?
Wonderful. I enjoy these nostalgic visits down the memory lane. But I also didn't know about the Debussy part. Also, what a nice idea to create these transitions with the book pages. Great stuff!
Thanks a lot!
Interesting video. Well done.
Cheers.
Nicely done review. And I appreciate Nevermore’s presence throughout.
Thanks Illume and happy new year. I think Nevermore enjoyed it, too.
Great ranking. Great video.
Cheers.
One of my favorite composers.
SF Sorrow is such a downer album, the last 3 tracks are punches to the gut. A much more impactful ending than Tommy opening a pinball camp, or whatever nonsense going on in that Nirvana album, which is too convoluted to count. Crazy how losing Dick Taylor and taking on an interim guitarists resulted in the arguably superior Parachute.
@@finslaw Definitely not a happy story 😄 'Parachute' might be their musical pinnacle.
Rambling man sounded like Emmy Lou Harris
The Seeds are an acquired taste. They were musically limited, though they still had their own sound. Their sound becomes tiring quickly for many, but I find them intriguing. Though they weren't the greatest players and songwriters, they're more interesting than a lot of their garage rock contemporaries because of Saxon's weird attitude and vocal delivery.
They certainly were different. Thanks for the comment.
Enjoy life my friend
You, too!
I love it❤
Thank you 😀
Wishing you a Merry Christmas with your loved ones❤
Seasons Greetings to you Mighty Murdock. Hope 2025 brings you a whole range of enjoyable musical experiences. And Oasis.
Cheers!
C arl sagan song is amazing
Yeah - Night Moves album is really cool.
Thank you so much for introducing these band's I've never heard of ❤
You're welcome 🙂
Well done.
Thanks mate!
Great video, a nice introduction for anyone who's not familiar with Oldfield.
@@CloseToTheEdge-Prog Thanks Pat!
@murdockreviews You are so welcome.
Enjoyed this video. I always enjoy these forays into an entire body of work. The cover of "Five Miles Out" by Gerald Coulson is still one of my most favourite album covers of all time. Sure, it is corny or naive, but I am a sucker for nostalgia. I was kinda sure that your 5th pick would be "Amarok". But then again, the task was "introductory videos" and not a favourite. Wonder how your Top5 would differ from this selection here.
Thanks for wading through this entire video ;-) Must check out that cover version. 'Amarok' would be an album for advanced listeners imo.
@@murdockreviews I meant the cover painting. I am sucker for this type of imagery. :-)
😆 i shouldn't be working and answering youtube comments at the same time.
Wow. That was an amazing list. I love it that it isn't the tired same songs. Fantastic.
Thanks 😎
I'm a massive Mike Oldfield fan. I have every album and so many rare an non album tracks. I got into him around the late 1980s through listening to my mother's Tubular Bells and Platinum LPs. I started my own collecting journey around 1993. Sadly he's criminally underrated in the UK as most people only know him for Tubular Bells, Blue Peter, In Dulci Jubilo and Moonlight Shadow. Hopefully your video will enlighten people. My 5 would be Tubular Bells Ommadawn Discovery The Songs Of Distant Earth Music Of The Spheres
@@leethomas2155 yes, he's not that much talked about anymore. But hey, it's the season for "In Dulci Jubilo" again 😉 Good album picks. I briefly had 'Songs of Distant Earth' on my list but then went for TB2. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Good lesson in Mike Oldfield. I’m one of those that only know Tubular Bells. Your description of his music has me interested. First off, I was not aware that he had vocals on other songs. I thought all of his music was instrumsntal. I will check him out on Spotify.
Pink Floyd's Meddle ist nicht mein favourite PF Album, da steht definitiv Wish You Were Here vor Dark Side Of The Moon.
Doves are a great band, Lost Souls is in my top 5 favourite albums of all time. If ever I want to reset my mood (too high or too low) I put it on and I feel normalised by the end of Firesuite. This is a fantastic single, much like Carousels almost 5 years ago. Sadly the Universal Want didn't quite hit the mark for me. I just hope the album can live up to this as a single.
@@JPKD91 Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes,let's keep fingers crossed for the album. I really enjoyed 'The Universal Want', though.
Thank you for this! Doves is one of my all-time favourite bands and your discussion is spot on. They have never produced a substandard album, and I love your description of their mood as melancholic but never depressing. This song is, as you say, immediately recognisable as Doves. Love it. I will be seeing them twice on their upcoming tour, minus Jimi sadly, but cannot wait. (This is the first of your videos I've seen but will definitely check out some more.)
Wow, have fun at the gigs! Thanks for watching 🙂
I think it’s fair to say that Doves never had any hits in the States, so there’s a good chance that your American viewers have never heard of them. I got on board with The Last Broadcast, and even though I followed them through the next couple of albums, they didn’t stick with me as much as TLB, to the point where Kingdom Of Rust is one of those records I bought but never really listened to. I can’t even say I think it’s bad… it just fell through the cracks for me, and I skipped their previous reunion album. The singer’s voice has weathered into Guy Garvey territory a bit. Not sure if I’ll get this or not. I did just buy the new Cure record, not having bought one since Wild Mood Swings, so who knows?
Understandable. Everybody's got those "pleasant to listen to but never really bothered"-bands.
Great reaction! It's not as strong as "Pounding" or "Black and White Town" in terms of great Doves singles, but great to have them back!
True. This is a bit more subtle and rather with the fanbase in mind instead of winning a huge new audience. I find it very good, though.
I don’t rate Black & White town that highly but this song is absolutely fantastic. Definitely one of my favs by them.
The samples you played sounded pretty good. I think I’ve heard of them, just haven’t heard them. Gonna check them out on Spotify.
but no, catchy great pop/synth song.
The vines sind super
Amaizing video horibel list
Hi Andrei - what's your list/ranking?
Its class
Good track, I think this would've been a big one back in the 90s tbf
I only have Leaders Of The Free World”. Great album. There’s something about those bands from Manchester. They tend to. Mix the right amount of melancholy.
Interesting choice for a review, I suppose because that was your personal introduction to the band. To me, BaRB is the last album of their stellar run. I started listening with Cast Of Thousands. They’ve certainly had songs I’ve loved since BaRB came out, but not so much full albums. Guy Garvey has my favorite voice in contemporary music, though. So lived-in and world-weary, but also warm and enveloping. Nice review.
Thanks a lot. I enjoyed the releases after that, too, but would agree they never fully deliver as completely stellar albums from start to finish.
Reluctant to criticise, but it’s not their finest hour and reminds me somewhat of late period Ultravox, and that’s not a compliment…
First time I listened to this track ...... I didn't like it, it seemed flat, maybe uninspired... and now of course haha .... upon further listening I quite like it. I agree with you, it's catchy. MSP are one of my all time fav bands, I do hold them in very high regard, and I know they're full catalogue of songs inside and out. Cheers, keep up the good work.
@@freeLA_saint Thanks!! Not their best-written track, but very easily memorable. Let's see how the new album turns out 🙂
manics for me are this weird band where the more "dark" or "punk" their songs wants to be the more "poppy" they actually sounds, like trying too hard. And the more "poppy" their songs are actually the more rock'n'roll they sound.
@@radidov5333 interesting analysis. Never heard them that way, but maybe i should re-listen with that in mind.
Thanks for this dude, more people need to listen to this band!! Favorite track is Alabama, just a beautiful song.
Thanks for watching. Great band, and this is such a beautiful album!
Great footage! Thanks! 😊 I was sat at the opposite side when I saw Runrig play there a few years back. Love the hoodie!
Cool. It's a great venue. The hoodie's very cozy! Hope you're doing fine.
Just spotted your video! Thanks for posting Murdock! 😊
You're welcome 🙂
Glad Jethro Tull landed on top. I too feel musically overwhelmed with most of the K.C. catalog and underwhelmed with P. F.’s music when I compare it to their reputations. Tull plays everything which defies categorization and when they venture into other genres they do it better than bands who exclusively do it.
Hot take for some prog fans, I reckon ;-) Thanks for watching.
Back in the day, "prog rock" did not exist. No band headlined themselves as such. What each band did was to do was present new sounds, new ideas, new creativity. They would admit / aspire to being "progressive" though. Prog, as a label, was a mid / late 90s thing. Think Dream Theater (esp. the later works). Often they follow a formula - yes, some novelty (esp. later on) but none of the original bands had a formula.... ever! :)
Great in-depth album review.
Thank you. Appreciated!
