Fantastic explanation. Best I've ever heard.
She is so amazing and ordinarily at the same time.
I have a question. Did not the ancient use of charcoal made things like toasting and boiling common before coal?
I could listen to her discuss anything and I’d be riveted
How lucky you are to get an hour of Ruth's historical knowledge. Lovely
I could listen to Ruth Goodman all day long. I learn more about History from her than I ever do reading books.

Ruth's analysis is brilliant as usual. What a radiantly delightful and wonderful woman!
Being from the rural US I never really thought about coal. Occasionally someone will say something about the coal shoot in an old building but it was never the primary fuel in our area (as far as I know). It was fascinating to hear Ruth talk about the transition to coal and all of the trickle down effects. I would love to hear if there were similar effects when fuel changed to oil or electricity. Thank you for sharing.
I’m glad you enjoyed the talk!
I read the book and it was excellent. Hearing Ruth talk a out it and still be so passionate about it is a real pleasure
So very interesting! This woman knows her stuff and is a very good story teller, always engaging.
Fascinating! I loved listening to Ruth. I have that nostalgic memory of coal fires….. 🔥 🙄
These two guys are funny.
