Started the manga where the anime ended so i didnt read the earlier parts of berserk. I always thought the king's reaction was a bit much. I figured any father would be angry over what griffith did but the king has already shown his liking for griffith and even made him a noble. Whats done is done and the king seems a reasonable man and i thought he'd let them get married or something lmao. Torturing griffith for so long made no sense if youre anime only.

I've finished reading Berserk up to the chapters where Kentaro's friend started drawing the manga. That was 2 years ago. The King's reveal, among other things of SA nature, was traumatising enough. But holy shit I thought he was tempted after stress, he was GROOMING her! In a world where demons, violence, rape, all sorts of shit you'd find in hell. Out of all of that, this is right up there. You'd expect demons to be fucked up because they're demons. Humans on the other hand oh boy...

I would love to be able to read Berserk, but I can't stand grape. I just can't. And it's in part Berserk's fault. I discovered the golden age movies when I was little, one digit age. A friend of my dad told him they were good, I liked anime, I loved the first two, so everything was cool. Taking the chance that my father was going out almost an entire day I prepared everything to see again the first two and the last one I haven't seen. Like Casca almost get graped by the Whale Knight on the second movie I think, and that cool Apostle appears on that movie too, maybe the Skull Knight also idk. But thas was the only grape-related and fantasy things on the movies by that time. And then the eclipse happened. There it was 8 year old me, crying, home alone, my popcorn scattered on the floor, watching that, without making a sound. When my father came back he asked me how was the movie. "Didn't liked. They all die. You can delete it I won't see it again."

I know people sometimes say Berserk has so much vile stuff happening that it’s completely unrealistic and unnecessary but in reality all of these heinous acts always have a bit of truth to them. Historically ,there have been a lot of women who were forced to marry relatives or being secretly abused by one. The world of berserk is definitely not for the faint of heart but if you’ve lived long enough (and on the internet long enough) EVIL stuff and happens all over the world more often than we’re aware of.

Havent read Berserk but at this point I think people who dont know this manga will see this and just see this and say "oh its hentai" Make sense how the people are afraid to criticize a well respected manga, all their "hot" takes is just "too much SA" which makes sense.

Berserk has a pretty ok story but all the weird stuff and grape ruins it for me

There is so much I didn't know after watching the OVA. Berserk is not a revel in depravity and violence. It is a story about depraved and violent people, who live with guilt, and the innocents who have to contend/cope with those people, and also those who feel no guilt. On the larger picture, it is a commentary on the fallen state of Man. There is actually a good time and place to be reductive, but the detractors of Berserk are pointlessly pearl-clutching. I kind of disagree about your assessment of the king. It is possible for him to be a good king by how he rules. He can be a good king, but he is unwell. And the way he responds when goaded by Griffith makes him a horrible person. But still a good ruler.
