Dang weeds. Poorjoe infestation.
Просмотров 442 месяца назад
Well, the weeds have taken over. We try to be natural as we can with weed control, but the poorjoe has taken over. 2, 4, d-b is what we are spraying at a rate of 1/2 gallon of 26% herbicide to 25 gallons of water. That may be a little light, but trying not to kill the Big Bluestem.
Preload Adjustment 2018 HD Ultra Limited

It is very easy to set the preload on my 2018 Harley. Setting the preload correctly will improve the ride quality and safety of your trip. Believe me, if your preload is set to soft, the bike will feel loose on the road, and the handling will be much worse.

Excellent reminder to take care of equipment, especially before sitting over winter. Good job. Tell Mrs Sally we say hello.
@@8thdaychronicles how are y'all doing? We have family in Georgia, they finally got power after 12 days. Sally says hi and we hope y'all have a good day.
@@tommywise1702 19 days now with no power, running water, limited cell service. But we’re making it!
@@8thdaychronicles dang buddy, sounds like those country boy skills have been put to the test. Prayers continuing.
I love watching bees!!
I heard yall never had a hurricane up here until I moved up here. Since then we've had two.
@@stevepointer4612 truth.
Finally enough signal to watch, thanks for sharing. Enjoy that honey!! We planned a 3rd cutting of hay, still hoping to do so but it’s now up in the air after devastating Helene. Looking forward to the final hay video. God bless you guys and yall stay safe.
Oh my, I hate to hear you guys have lost a hive to these nasty beetles. Sure hope the rest of the hives are doing ok.
@8thdaychronicles we have another that looks lost, I'll check them tomorrow. Started the spring with 2 hives, added 4 through bee traps, and now have lost 2 (most likely). So a net gain of 2 hives. It's been a hard year at Chigger Hill.
@@tommywise1702 keep looking up! The glass is not half empty but half full!
You are so sweet. God bless ❤
Good job with the poorjoe weeds. War with weeds seems to be a never-ending battle. Ouch…20 stings would be bad news! Glad you’re ok! Thanks for the update.
Looking better! Someone passing by might see the yellowing and not think so but to a hay farmer, thats an improvement! We are experiencing much of the same thing, but with foxtail, in our test plot extension area. Thank goodness its a small area and contained there right now, but I realize it could spread. We cut hay today, again, 3rd cut, on the test plot. Our season is trucking along nicely. We didnt cut the extension due to the foxtail infestation. Once the test plot is baled and up, I plan to bush hog the extension and rake it into the woods to get the seedheads of the foxtail off the field. 2-4-D still does some good here,. Its eliminated several problem weeds and some not. Our last spraying we used Crossbow and it done a fine job. Keep up the good work! Best to you and Mrs Sally!
Way to go!
Y'all are so cute!
@aliciahaney9244 it's really just Sally that is cute, her cuteness helps me out.
I wish you all the best!
@@aliciahaney9244 spraying again Monday.
Can't find on tractor tools website do you have a model number to share?
@jimcarusillo671 Well, they no longer sell them. It's a long story, but the short story is that you have to make a bracket and weld it on. Ibex said that is a no-no, so TTD stopped selling the wheels.
I know another Joe that ain't worth a tinkers damn.
I feel your pain. Weeds are evil, LoL. Dormant seed beds suddenly can come alive. It’s a constant battle here too. We had just a smidge of fox tail in our main hay field last year, not enough to concern me much. This year I am much more concerned. It’s not an infestation but I can see where this is heading. Foxtail and Deer Tongue is my arch enemies here, at the present. Who knows what is in the seed bed waiting to show up next year? It’s a battle. If someone casually looks at a premium bale of hay and don’t stop to consider the sweat equity and time/funds that went into that bale, well, they need educated I guess. 24D still works for us on some weeds, some not. We went with Crossbow this past spring/early summer and it’s helped. But there’s always tomorrow’s weeds. Our best to you Sir and Mrs Sally. Yall are fantastic!
@8thdaychronicles we are doing well. I'm just disappointed. The work we have expended paid off for the first cutting, but dang it on the second. I feel like the seed bed was the culprit. We turned the dirt over and fertilized, planted seed, but the hot and dry spell sent the new grass to sleep too quickly. We are putting lime down again this fall to move the Ph closer to 7 (6.0 now). I think that will help, but a few tons of fertilizer is in order for March if possible. How are Susan's chickens? Hope they are doing well, Sally says Hi!
@@tommywise1702 The new chicks are no longer chicks… they have grown like weeds, no pun intended! lol Hang in there, herbicide is your friend in that situation. Been there too. With your hot summer temps yall might be better served with a warm season variety hay grass like the big blue stem you planted some of. Several good varieties of warm season hay grasses as I know you already know of. All your work will pay off, just hang in there!
How many acres did you bale
@@funandfixing2954 we baled about 7 acres of poor to fair field. Yeald should go up as conditions improve.
@@funandfixing2954 we had a total of 180 bales on 7 acres.
@@tommywise1702 that's not terrible and your absolutely right it will improve I'm looking to get some of the ibex line of hay equipment and trying to get a rough idea of what we might see per acre of bales we have 4 acres of decent area need to do some clean up and apply lime and I believe in a couple years time it will be good quality hay pasture
@funandfixing2954 we are looking for 1 ton per acre when we get our soil corrected if that helps. Most hay farmers in our area are well above that, but that's our goal. Estimate around 50 pounds per bale and that will give you a close estimate I think. The Ibex equipment is great. I had to modify the V rake to make it accessible, but there are other options at TTD. Good luck with the soil ammendments, ours has been slow but consistent.
Well that’s neat. Goodness, motorcycle technology has really progressed since the ‘80’s models I once had. Thanks for sharing
@8thdaychronicles that's the truth. I had a 1987 Sportster, and it was just a simple machine. These things are way more complicated.
Fields nice and green...looking good! Here in the NC mountains we aint had that much rain, but good rain nonetheless. Around 2 inches of rain total the last week or so. Enough to wake up our grass hay growth very well. Best to you and Mrs. Sally.
@@8thdaychronicles Thank you, Sally says Hi! It was a hurricane that came through, then a nice cool front. I hope it continues for another week, but I wouldn't bet money on it. Hope Susan's chicken's are doing well, see on the internet!
Where did you find the gathering wheels? How much?
@edshrakejr.7951 I purchased mine at Tractor Tools Direct, but they have stopped selling them. It's a long story and I made a video about it last year. Turns out you need to fashion a bracket that isn't ibex approved. There is another company in Oregon that sells them for $600 plus shipping. I paid somewhat less than that, but now they are not available.
Good news yall dodged the brunt of any storms but got good rain and cooler temps! That rain will really help regrowth of the hay grasses. And the bees got to turn off their A/C for a few days! Looking great, thanks for sharing!
Pshh. Hurricane beryl. Light weight
@@stevepointer4612 just how we like them.
Love those gathering wheels!
Those have caused some heartache. We were lucky that John at TTD was helpful and interested in making them work. It seems that ibex was not ready for the addition.
@@tommywise1702 did you fabricate those yourself or purchase them from somewhere? I have the same baler from TTD and would like to try some wheels like that.
@mycenae2 I purchased the wheels from TTD, but they no longer sale them - permanently out of stock. There is another place in Oregon that sales them for an extra $100. I fabricated the stiffener bracket that is needed because the mounting flange is way under engineered. If you look back about a year ago, I made a video about the brackets.
@@tommywise1702 Good deal, thanks for the info, I'll check out your video about the brackets. I saw your comment on Piney Grove's video about using a full-size roll of twine, so I found your channel and subscribed. I've been using the 9000' rolls from Tractor Supply, but a larger roll would be great - I'll do that for the second cutting this year. I'm also in Arkansas, between Searcy and Batesville, so feeling the same heat you are!
@mycenae2 we live in Conway, the land is at Formosa (Clinton area). Thanks for subscribing! Anything I can do to help let me know.
Congratulation, a good decision, we have also one since years, a real good invest. Many greetings from Austria, Manfred
Looking great! Bees are fascinating creatures.
More fun than a barrel of monkeys.
How much should a guy expect to pay another guy to have him do a proper inspection on a bee hive?
It could be as low as free. Should be anyway.
Good job! Take care of your equipment, like this, and it will take care of you! Thanks for sharing!
❤🎉😂😂😂😢😮
Us farmers do what us farmers have to do 😉
Good video! Youre exactly right...its YOUR equipment and if you wanna modify something, whats it to anyone else! I've had the same comments about my custom drawbar assembly on my Farm Maxx baler. If the drawbar damages my baler (highly unlikely anyhow) its on ME, nobody else. It will probably be this winter before I venture into gathering wheels. I dont mind modifying them but at the price from Kenos, (plus shipping cost), its just not in my farm budget right now. I wish TTD still sold them, they had them for around $400 (reasonable), Kenos is like $600...plus ship (borderline UNreasonably high). We have messed with varying stack-styles too for the 2x2 bales. I dont mind either way. When you stack straight up 3-4 tall, the wrapped ends get covered by the bale on top and under (can slightly stagger to leave a bit open but then the stack gets "wobbly" a bit). After stacking several different ways, I prefer the same way you do, keeps the hay bales in better shape. Of course it depends on your barn space too. Last cutting last year we stacked in a couple stalls and had to stack laying down for enough space to fit all the bales. Of course always on pallets off the ground. Congrats on a great 1st cut! Thanks for sharing!!
I am with ya on the gathering wheels, the price for what ya get is borderline unreasonable. Then you have to make the mount and take full responsibility for it not working! Anyway, good luck with the wheels.
Hay hey hey 😆
Thank you.👍
Wrights welding. What the heck man? You were that close to me and you didn't stop by?
Sorry, I'll stop in next time. Sally asks about yall every time we pass the hideaway.
looking good! I only wish our humidity and weather would allow us to cut one day, dry one day and bale the next. Thats unheard of around here. If we baled that fast we would have a barn fire for sure. Goes to show how different it is one area to the next. One size sure dont fit all in the hay game. Bales look nice stacked in the barn! Thanks for sharing! Nice seeing Mrs Sally in the videos.
We are in the heat of summer here for sure. Even with the humidity, it seems that the sun and wind dry everything down rapidly. Sally is getting friendly with the camera and it seems like she enjoys it for now.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Happy for you good job🎉🎉
So proud job well done.🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Congratulations on design 😉
Good luck! Never know you can do it till you try!
Very good info for a newer farmer like me! Always great seeing how other people trouble shoot problems Thank you!
It was a "make it work moment" for sure. I worked as a machinist for 25 years, that experience helped for sure.
That's awesome.
Looks like the fixes are working GREAT!
Yes, yes, protect yourself from the sun! A good brimmed hat is invaluable! Thanks for sharing!
The mods look really good!
Hi Darrin!
did ibex notify you to get those wheels off? apparently they have damaged a few balers.
Nope, I was the experiment. Got the very first set. I engineered a bracket, but TTD didn't want to develop the idea. I welded the bracket on and never looked back!
Hope the humidity drops for dry down! Thanks for sharing!
The wind changed direction and the hay went to drying. Made a few bales today.
Been unusually hot here too the last several days. We hit 87 yesterday, thats ~hot~ for the mountains! Hopefully that humidity drops for yall to get hay dried down proper. What a neat space to camp and stay at the farm! Thanks for sharing! Hello to Mrs Sally! Good to see you back in the videos! Best of luck this week!
We had 88 degrees here today, up to 95 by Friday. Hot and humid is the story for Arkansas summers. We love staying up there, quite, no neighbors, no cellphone service. Git a couple more videos on tap for the week. Hope to have several hundred 2x2's in the barn. Sally says Hi! She is a little nervous about the videos, but we are working on that. Please tell Susan we all wish her well.
Good video for a different “style” drum mower than I’m used to. Some differences in the drum mower we have but basically they operate a lot the same. Ours is PTO to a belt drive system. Drum mowers are hard to beat for their cost compared to disc mowers or sickle bars. Good job explaining how that particular style drum mower should be set up. I don’t think I’ve saw anyone else explain the details of setup for that style mower. Good luck mowing tomorrow!
Babies hot hey.
Yeah legs have pollen. Can see clear zooming in.
big difference now👍
