Plenty to explore at botallack Duncan. The crown’s engine houses are so named after queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the mine and went underground. The first big building you went into housed a compressor to supply compressed air for the rock drills. Beside are the round buddles where the ore was washed to separate the metals from the sands. The zig zag flue is called a labyrinth. When tin ore was roasted it gave off arsenic fumes, the arsenic soot settled in the labyrinth and was bagged up and sold as a pesticide. Must of been a horrible job! A great place for a mine walk, full of mining history. Good video👍

The miners dry! Is the changing room for the miners to change into work clothes before going underground. This was all heated by steam pipes from the pumping engine.

Marriott’s shaft is a deep one. It’s 340 fathoms. There is 6 feet in a fathom so that would make it 622 metres. Though it’s nearly full of water nowadays.
The beam engine at heartland’s is a rather special one! It was built way back in 1854 at copper house foundry at hayle. It worked at 3 other mines over the years and eventually came to robinsons shaft in 1903 When it finished working in 1955 it was the last steam pumping engine to work on a Cornish mine! Good video 👍
