Awesome find! I actually have a 1984 version of this machine branded as a whirlpool. It’s pretty cool the way it works compared to these later ones.

That's the old style coupler, which IMO was better than the one newer one with the metal reinforcement. The older ones did not wear down the motor shaft. That happened to the motor with my KitchenAid direct drive and the motor is NLA.

This washer could last another 30 years, easily if you restore it. You should be able to find all the parts. That leak may be the bleach hose that connects to the tub, or the tub seal. This machine will clean up nicely.

It's always cheaper refurbishing an old washer than it is buying a new one and there is no energy savings with the new machines period If they have to be repaired within the first 5 years.

Whirlpool built direct drive… that motor you talked about is the transmission… I say this machine is a keeper…

looks in good shape for over 30yrs some parts are gonna need replaced but itll work for many more years.

I remember these when i was young; my mom must have had one. I remember putting my finger in that door switch to watch it spin.

Back in the early 90's I purchased a used matching pair of Whirlpool washer and dryer and they worked well for 30 more years! They came with a 90 day warranty!

Great score for $40. That's so much better than paying $800, or more, for something that MIGHT last 2 years today!

Thats a Rebranded Whirlpool 70/80 direct drive washer. Best washers ever. I bought mine in 1991 and its still running strong. Only replaced a motor coupler and had to bypass the lid switch .

I have several of these machines and I can tell you the warm rinse does a very remarkable job rinsing when the incoming tap water is below 60 degrees. Works great with towels. Of course you'll get the environment people why you don't need a warm rinse and how it ineffective.

Now that's really annoying! I was crossing my fingers that this isn't the sound I hear on and off coming from my fridge. Thank goodness it isn't. It just makes a quiet clunking sound every now and then. If it gets more insistent, I'll have a fridge repairman come take a look at it. Thanks for sharing this. I have a conundrum: I have tried multiple new filters and replaced my inlet valve. I get no water or ice from my machine. If I remove the filter(s), the water comes out of the dispenser. Any ideas?

How long can it hang on once it starts doing this? The one I want has a 2 month wait. My fridge started doing this a month or two ago and is louder and does it for longer each day.

There's a easier way to fix this problem it works on pretty much every washing machine unplug the washer for a min plug it back in after the 1min then lift the lid up 6times about 3" make sure it clicks so I know it's open so that 6 times in less then12-15 sec after the 6th time set your knob to rinse an spin or drain an spin that should work

Thank you so very much. Our lights have been flashing for years. My husband even ordered an expensive part that he never got around to installing. 11 months ago he had a stroke and is currently at a rehab facility. Due to potential seizures, I knew that I had to figure out how to get the lights to stop flashing before he can come home for a visit. Following your instructions to unplug and plug in the top light, the issue was fixed in about a minute. I agree with the other commenter that said you are doing the work of God by posting this quick fix. I can't thank you enough.

That's the result of cold water washes with liquid detergent and lots of fabric softener. This is why you should always wash in warm or hot.

Are appliances these days made to fail ? Sure seems like it. That was not the case many years ago.

I was browsing for literally anything website that mentioned that Whirlpool now has Chinese Jiaxipera in many of their refrigerators, and your video was the ONLY thing I found! Whirlpool used to used to own Embraco, but sold that company in 2019, which just so happens to be the year your top-freezer fridge was made. In the last couple of years, I know that Whirlpool started to use these Chinese compressors in side-by-side fridges as well. It's sad to see so much Chinese junk in everything these days.
