FYI: the TV series (1979) got in quite some production problems, very evident around episode 15 ~20 and was cut short by the shows sponsors. However, because of the strong fan response Tomino got the green light to bring the show out in three theatrical compilation movies (1980, 1981, 1982) that are for sure the definitive version of OG Mobile Suit Gundam . For sure the Guntank was only still around by this episode because of the toymanufacturers sponsoring the show. In MSG 3: Encounters in Space it is replace by a second Guncannon and Hayato kicks ass in it. That movie starts with this battle and it is freaking amazing with theatrical quality score and almost completely new theatrical quality animation. MSG 1979 is obviously a diamond in the rough, weighted down by production and sponsor problems. It is amazing that Tomino was able to bring out a new cut this fast (mind you he was also directing Space Runaway Ideon) at the same time. And imho the three movies are basically perfect, and 40+ years later still some of the finest Gundam outings ever made. Looks like you haven't reacted to the movies yet: Sir, that is a damned shame.

The decoy real world thing was essentially the last gasp resurgence of Cocona's fear of moving forward. She had just been separated from Papika and ended up in a world where, functionally, she was afraid it was all a dream. A wonderful dream certainly, but Uexkill is a real rabbit, there's normal explanations for things, Pure Illusion doesn't exist and nobody believes in it or thinks they can go there. There's a few factors that tell us that this is a fake out, some of which are only visible in the subtitled release. The news station is named 'LIE News', for example, Uexkill is a normal rabbit, the uniforms and in particular the bows on the uniform are different. Cocona intellectually believes that everything that happened was real, but emotionally she fears that it wasn't. This universe is how she saw the world before her adventures. There was no magic. There was no wonder. She was just a normal girl in a normal town going to a normal school. When she goes to the woods and finds the pipe and is looking for her birthmark, she's trying to be rational, to reason to herself why things seem strange. But she's, briefly, forgotten the lesson of the first episode. Pure Illusion is a world that operates on faith- if you don't have faith in yourself, if you don't believe you can do it, then it's easy to get trapped by circumstance. When she sees Papika, even then she feels she's in the real world. It's only when Papika talks to her- and from Papika's perspective this isn't the real world and that becomes apparent to Cocona that she realizes she just has to transform. Remember she never tried to transform. She looked for her birthmark, she asked people about it- she was operating on the emotional feeling that it was a dream she couldn't get back. Once she started believing again- in herself, in Papika, she could transform again. This is also part of why she was trying- tears of relief but also why she tsundere'd at Papika- because she recognized that all her worries were just in her head. Papika made it all go away just by being there for her. And that meant that the adventure would go on. They went back to their real world- which very much could be in Pure Illusion, because maybe there isn't really so much of a distinction between what is real and what is imagination when both worlds care about how you feel, when they both rely on you believing in yourself. That's why she's happy when she gets back- she's no longer trying to run from the adventure back to a duller more predictable 'real world'. She's found herself in this one. EDIT: And yes, Papika remembers everything. From her perspective she visited Mimi for a little bit then went to find Cocona. It was only like thirty minutes later, even though from Cocona's perspective it had been an entire day.

I still don’t get why people support Light as a body of justice. Albeit killing criminals like murders, rapists, and pedos I could not care about them dieing. I’ve seen this show as an example not to give the power of “justice” to one person. Light was awful in using the power to kill innocent people and manipulate many to not get caught. He got his dad killed, he contemplated killing his sister so she couldn’t be a bargaining chip against him, and even said when Mikami said he would start killing lazy people, Light said that was not part of the plan yet. Light was a slippery slope of killing anyone and everyone that got in his way. Even his followers on TV when he didn’t like them. Light is the type of serial killer that kills criminals but if someone stood in his way he saw them as evil as well!

You should watch the endings of the recaps films exclusively because they have updated animations and include songs that hit so much harder! Some of the best songs in Gundam history even! I tear up ever time I hear the song that plays in the recap films while the White Base Crew are effected by Amuro's Newtype flash's.

Flanagan Boone the pilot of the Grublo has a psychological horror manga covering the time leading up to his death, it's a great read and since it's not really something compatible with the channel format I highly suggest you read it on your own time.

culture shock japanese mythologu used in this show is big part of it's charm, and seriously the ammount of references to culture and fairytails of japan is big. this is not sao style dumb isekai you have 2 more regular characters to catch up with, please finish first season at least, because it is 2000's show and "seasons" were 24-26 episodes long (this is continiuous show by the way) you didn't even met the big bad yet please go on , you won't regret it

They planned to use The Corefighter to contact friendly forces, the plan failed because Amuro almost got overrun, during the battle White Base slowly makes it out of Zeon territory.

Fun fact, Sayla was Amuro's intended love interest, he gets with her in multiple timelines including Tomino, Gundam's creators novels which are his "ideal" retelling of the original series.

Ryu was on of the few enlisted men on White Base.
