    would a motorcross helmet with ece and dot certification be safe for bmx? the standards chart seems to be similar, but i have heard some people say otherwise

    • @LearnBMXRacing
      @LearnBMXRacing 3 часа назад

      The DOT standard isn't very good, but the ECE standard is pretty good. Motocross helmets tend to be a little heavier than BMX and mountain bike helmets though. So, while a motocross helmet might be safe, it's probably not going to be as comfortable.

    what is then the exact difference between cross-country and cross terrain and cyclocross? what was the Swamp Master by We the People really made for? 🤔

    • @LearnBMXRacing
      @LearnBMXRacing 5 дней назад

      The marketing department of bicycle manufacturers often try to sound "new" and "cool" by inventing slightly different terms for the same thing. So, I think "cross-country" and "cross terrain" and "cyclocross" are all pretty much the same thing. The Swamp Master by We the People says it is designed as a downhill mountain bike, but with the light weight and maneuverability of a BMX bike. I notice it only has one gear, so it's not really meant to climb hills like a mountain bike. Those extra-wide tires and the suspension will make it heavy, so it's not meant for BMX racing. But, I could see it being really fun for what it was designed to do - as a downhill mountain bike, it would be really smooth and nimble.

      @LearnBMXRacing Ah, gotcha! If all those fancy names are just marketing tricks, then they’re off my list for this winter in the city. I’m torn between the WTP Atlas 24" BMX and the WTP Avenger 27.5" Klunker-both sound like a blast! I’m planning some city snow fun, taking the back routes, dodging those chaotic commuter lanes (seriously, can’t stand the madness), and just playing around everywhere else. The quality of WTP bikes really impresses me, plus I’ve scoped out some asphalt pump tracks nearby-there’s one a quick 20-minute ride away and a bigger one about 1:20 away by train. Snow weekends could be awesome! Schwalbe has winter spike tires for these bikes too, so I’ll see what’s best. Honestly, I’m over the commercialized bike shops-they feel like sales cults these days. I just want a bike to ride and enjoy, not to deal with headaches over tech that doesn’t add to the fun! I’m 48 and used to ride BMX as a kid! I recently sold my old-school, traditional 3-gear city bike and my Fixed Gear bike. One was boring and way too heavy (24 kilos of Swedish design!), and the Fixed Gear is fun, but in my city? Forget it! With parents treating bike lanes like playgrounds and dodging scooters zooming by, I’m done with that chaos! No more Fixed Gear for me; I’m ready to dive into BMX or cruisers and find some fun away from the commuter lanes and road rage. Thanks for getting back! You’ve got a cool channel; it’s inspiring to see!

    Hahaha. I'm a 48-year old, and I just had my first race last Sunday. This video is very in line with my current situation. For me, I got into it mainly because my 1st grader did. She took too it like a fish to water, and it was frankly inspiring. Also, at 48, I was a prime age to experience the BMX craze in the 80s. There is a BIG nostalgia element for me. Last but not least, I weighed almost 400 pounds at this time last year, and I've lost about 160 pounds since Christmas -- I need something to get me out and off my butt. I'm back to "fat-letic" shape, and hope to get even more fit with activities like BMX. I know this is an old video, but thanks so much for making it!

    The lack of brakes on modern bmx freestyle bikes has more to do with the fact that most bikes dont come with gyros and instead of spending the money to add a gyro to have brakes and be able to barspin/tailwhip, people just ride them brakeless.

    Truly one of the best Bmx videos i have ever seen! this thing should be saved for generations you captured a great piece of history here, a few mistakes riding brakeless has been going for decades so it's far from being a FAD and it serves a few purposes: one it's cheaper and easier to maintain a bike without breaks and it makes for a much cleaner build that's also almost silent from things rattling around and two , it gives u a whole different feeling when riding street or skatepark for so many reasons that i guess u just have to try it for yourself to understand the biggest is you have to commit when you go for a trick because you don't have breaks lets just say it makes things a lot more exciting fast :) and the another mistake you made when showing different BMX bikes on sale and trying to figure out the differences, pegs are generally and aftermarket all none race bmxs can use pegs and it's a riders choice if to buy pegs and use them or not.. thats why its Called FREESTYLE also running breaks or not running them is a choice you make.. we dont leave that to the vender. you can put breaks and 90% of brakeless bikes most BMX frames have break mounts regardless if they are being sold with breaks . or as frame only. and most bmxers buy the parts they want and don't actually buy fully built bikes , maybe your first few bikes are fully built but very quickly you will progress to buying all the parts yourself when building and maintaining your ride . great video!

    Why tf would you show a POS walfart schwinn as the bike that started BMX! that is just shameful dude, At 65 I seem to be the dinosaur in the room and maybe the last guy to ride a stingray in a BMX race at Saddleback on the expert track, Hardy anyone was racing the expert track, in fact, they \gave me 2ed in a qualifier, so they could have more than 4 riders for the main, Scott Breithaupt The man that organized the event was in my race, ya I did not finish that well, but I landed farther down the drop-off than anyone else! After the race and almost everyone was gone home, I was still there flying down the dropoff and some guy wanted to video us going over him at the drop, I have always wondered what happened to that footage. My good friend Sean (Shades) Ewing, or SE as I know him. was helping Scott get out of his hole, taking him to events, enabling him to realize that he was still relevant and loved by the BMX community, Sean may have been the last person to see him sober before he passed. rip TGF of BMX Scott Breithaupt

    Great documentary, thanks for sharing! Makes me miss my BMX so much. I am 52 now, and had an '84 GT Mach 1 back in the day. Took a lot of begging to get, finally convinced all my family to throw in on one Christmas present. We were definitely poor, so the $350 for the bike was a LOT of money, I felt so lucky to get it. I never raced an actual track, but there was a dirt track that kids had made in the woods by the local small airplane airport. It had some great jumps and turns, and provided more thrills than most tracks in that, sometimes you would get chased off by airport security, and sometimes chased by dogs. But most of the time it was just awesome riding, and afterwards you could sit and chill in broken down abandoned airplanes like Piper Cubs, etc. My daughter has a 24" aluminum frame Schwinn BMX, that she no longer uses, so I am gonna restore it and start riding again. I only wish I could get my GT back from my younger brother in Mississippi, though doubtful he still has it, was a LONG time ago when I gave it to him.

    I got into riding freestyle bikes when I was a kid in the 80's. I think I was 8 years old and had a huffy. I then eventually traded various stuff to other kids and got a redline. Then had a crap load of gt's, haro's, redlines, etc in the 90's. Last bmx flatland bike I had was a haro master. I had that bike from 1995 till 2012 when someone broke into my parents garage and stole it. I absolutely LOVED the way the old trick bikes looked like. I don't think there would be any chance in hell I'd have been riding these brand new trick bikes. They are all so bland and all of them basically look the same and are WAY too small to really ride. That said, I just bought a new 24 inch Haro Master. Gotta say, that old design looks WAY better than these new bikes.

    • @LearnBMXRacing
      @LearnBMXRacing 3 месяца назад

      I suspect the "new look" is just teenage rebellion. You know, freestyle bikes used to be fluroescent and bright, so the way to be defiant and rebellious is to do the opposite and make them all matte and bland. But it's funny that BMX race bikes are still beautiful and colorful.

    • @thorodin3631
      @thorodin3631 3 месяца назад

      @@LearnBMXRacing ya I thought the same. about bmx race bikes. its interesting that the race bikes still have flair. I don't know about the teenage rebellion thing though. I just mean, if they all look the same, what are they rebelling against then? would be the same with music. back in the 80's/early to mid 90's, metal was all about rebellion. bands like slayer or megadeth or pantera, etc, if you read their lyrics, a LOT of what they wrote was rebelling against the system. A lot of it was political. If all the bands all sounded the same and had the same lyrics, then what would anyone rebel against because its all the same thing? you know what I mean? If I were a teen today and riding bmx, I think I would probably get an 80's based bike to be different than what everyone else has now. Either that or purposely paint my bike different. Idk, when I was a kid, my bikes were never stock. They were always an amalgamation of a crap load of different bikes. I wanted my bikes to look different than what all the other kids had. So for instance, my haro master had dyno pretzel handlebars, a hutch pentagram sprocket, redline 6 bolt neck/stem, etc. My dad was a mechanic and some of the bikes I'd get needed to be painted so I'd sandblast the frame and paint them colors you wouldn't normally see. So for instance, I'd 2 tone them. I had a haro that I painted black and pink (kinda in a homage to the pink gt's but made it a little different). I just mean, you'd think at least one of these big bmx companies would do something to differentiate themselves from the pack, but when I go look up brand new bmx bikes, they pretty much all look the same. same top tubes, same color schemes, etc. Idk, if todays youth of rebellion is all looking the same, idk if I would have even gotten into bmx bikes if I were a teen now because there isn't anything different. You know what I mean? hope I'm making sense here.

    They got rid of the brakes because the levers will break your fingers or cut you doing bar spins when catching the bars is why

      I guess 80's riders had tougher fingers.

      @@LearnBMXRacing absolutely lol so did I I'm 34 during the late 90s and 2000s I took a hiatus from BMX for like 8 years and when I came back and nobody had breaks and I was like why doesn't anybody have brakes everybody's looking at me like I'm retarded im like what ? So I started asking and they started telling me why and I rode my bike with brakes until a pro challenge me to take my brakes off for 30 days because I use them like a crutch 🩼 and he was right I've been back and forth since but currently I am brakeless

    Well ,I am 57 and just put together a Torker bike with 20" wheels.I felt like a giraffe learning how to walk again riding it.I just want to do street Bmx ie....bunny hops jumps,occasional racing ....for now.I used to do mountain trail biking a lot.My question is,will my riding skills improve? I know I am really out of shape and not conditioned like I used to be.

      I always suggest if anyone wants to quickly improve in their athletic ability, you should ideally participate in that sport 2 or 3 days a week. If you can only do it on the weekends, you will improve, but it will take longer. The most important thing is to have fun every time you ride!

    ‘Your brother’s nothing next to Bart Taylor.’ ‘He is too, and if you don’t take that back, I’m gonna punch your lights out!’ That was filmed in my neck of the woods, Cochrane Alberta and helltrack was my area of NW Calgary…the ORIGINAL helltrack was cowtown!!

    I accidentally found pictures of trial BMXs, when I was scrolling site of local extreme sports store to get some replacement parts for my rusty WTP BMX. It was sure a little shock, when I figured out that there is no place for seatpost in such trial frameset. But yeah, it's so cool that even my local bike store provide them!

      That's awesome. I've actually never seen a trials bike in person. That is pretty amazing that your local bikeshop carries them.

    Can a dirt jumper, pump track, skatepark guy do it?

    • @LearnBMXRacing
      @LearnBMXRacing 4 месяца назад

      Of course. Don't worry about riding on your first day. Just go to your local track and meet people. Ask questions. BMX is a very social/family-oriented sport. It's not as isolated as things like riding a skatepark. Go and check out your local BMX racing scene and see what you think of it.
