Wild Camping across Australia S3 Ep.7
This episode I cycle 1100km from Willcannia in N.S.W to Roma Qld. Sleeping in my tent every night as i cross Australia. The cold conditions and exertion or maybe the innocent time spent in some hot springs brings about a sickness that i'll have to ride through 300km in 3 days.

Little was i to know this relatively short leg of 650km would be the hardest yet. battling through unrelenting winds and open treeless plains i was surely tested to the point of asking myself.... My 150 km journey exploring through deep jungle and river crossings as i try to complete route 23, solo in the middle of wet season. My last minute decision to take this route left me ill-prepared for what i would have to overcome. With not enough food and no way of filtering water, it may not have been the wisest decision. Great vids. What sort of tyres do you use, and are you happy with their performance?
Onya cobba , gotta hurry up and retire , pushy on my friend best way to travel
Absolutely best way to travel 👍
Absolutely best way to travel 👍
Onya Cobba beers up
What's your bike , enjoying your episodes
She's a Giant Talon2 2021, not really meant for touring however nice and strong, changed drive train to 1x12 and have done 20,000km and still smiling 😁
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon so a hart tail mountain bike, front suspension
Yes a hardtail mountain bike 👍
Onya cobba
Hey Bro! did you do a vid getting up to North QLD or this the last one?
Yes mate, have another video to do up to Cairns
No new video for a month, everything ok?
All good mate, actually just working on it now 👍
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon that's good to hear, I was starting to worry something had gone amiss
Happy Birthday thanks for the inspiration
Thank you 😁
One helluva ride.
Hey mate, thanks so much for this video. I'm currently heading West across the Nullarbor on my bike and planning on heading South when I get to Balladonia (weather pending). The info in your video will save me 40kms from the way I'd originally planned, which makes it much more doable for me. Great vid with all the details you could need. Bless you legend of a man!!! 🤟😎🤟
Happy to know it helped mate. Enjoy the off-road and all the very best with your trip and stay safe out there 💪
Omg cuzz I’m so proud of you! I love watching all these vids and what a journey 👏🏻❤
Thanks Vicki, look forward to catching up when I'm back 😚
Fantastic footage mate, showing Real time adventure.Reminds me of my cycling days in Europe. However what you do require stamina in this environment. Happy travels from Perth 74 old cyclist.stay safe
Thanks Peter, appreciate it
Holy shit,
Did you have any problems flying the Falcon in Thailand and Laos.
No problems except for flying through misty, foggy cloud and it costing alot to replace🤣
Love watching your bike adventures. I always look forward to seeing your next video. Stay safe. And safe travels.
Cheers mate, appreciate it.
Absolutely awesome video series and bikepacking trek. Really enjoying watching it. Stay safe and looking forward to the next instalment. Thanks for making and sharing your journey with us. 🙏👍🇦🇺
Thanks Francis, appreciate that alot 😁
I did cycletouring up until Nov 22, returning to it in 2016, at 57 yo, after stopping in my 30's. Mostly toured with my dog, bought a new Gravel bike to continue, but finally my back gave out permanently. Got all new gear in early 22, so pissed that I couldn't keep on doing it. Moved onto ADV motorbike riding, back still hurts a bit, but enjoying riding again albeit a different way, good to see oldies still doing it though. Have just subbed.
Good to see you're still out carving it up. I thought a motorbike would be worse for your back. Not sure about the oldies comment though, I'm in my prime 💪.
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon Well it's painful but, I can carry more weight, it is not knocking me about like it was before, and my dog can still come with me, although it's currently a learning curve for him to overcome the fear of the bike at speed.
Great viewing mateee...well ✔️ just subscribed will watch the Uncle Ho trail vlog thats what caught my attention as i lived in Vietnam for 10years and travelled on motorcycle not bicycle though i cycle on a Giant bike alot throughout both Cambodia and Vietnam alot🤙🤙🤙🤙
Awesome. I live in Thailand near the Cambodian border. Heading back there shortly to go finish my tour of Lao, Vietnam and Cambodia. Looking forward to travelling Vietnam 🇻🇳.
I have gone tubeless tape on all my rims even though I run tubes. Had multiple spoke flats but no more. Great vids mate - keep safe, I am too chicken to have cars and roadtrains whipping past me at 110 km/h. Takes guts 💪
Good idea taping rims with tubes. I don't blame you for not wanting to roll the dice with these vehicles out here.
Always love the company of Happy Jacks (Apostle birds)👌
Cheers Jason, was wondering what they were, my alarm clock.
Obviously you missed her!!
I've missed bloody everyone! Still can't believe i have not seen one cyclist out on the road since leaving Perth.
Lael left Perth 3 july, arrived Darrinbandi 26 July, and reached Brisbane 30th. Did at most 200km a day! no wonder you missed her!
Jeezzus, what number bus did she take 🤣
Not a Greyhound!!!!
Not as leisurely as you!
Some synchronicity here with the posting of this clip! Lael Wilcox passed through Darrinbandi a few days ago on her around the world challenge!!!
Looking good mate your a bloody legend, umbrellas can come in handy sometimes, l am all for tail winds, your videos that you prepare in your studio are great quality nearly as good as the commentary, your mascot is doing a wonderful job of keeping you company, l am trying to figure out how the hell l would manage the 100k plus a day after day, you have what it takes, where will you go after Darwin because if your ever down south near Melbourne your staying here at my place in Sherbrooke Forest in the mountains outside the big smoke, you take it easy Lee ha ha until your next clip cheers
Cheers mate, umbrella thing was unsuccessful as physics taught me that i need to be going slower than the wind 🤣. Going to finish this trip in Cairns and get ready for uncompleted tour of Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Thanks for your kind words
Aus not Oz
Well spotted Amanda. I'm not in Kansas anymore
Didn't have yout red shoes on, and Toto to accompny you!
Also you didn't look brhind the curtain! You should have!
Multiple 100km days would certainly take a toll on the body. If times not an issue then a couple of days rest here and there would be beneficial to your body. liking your drone footage along the way. Keep well.
Thanks, yeah time is becoming an issue
couple of years ago I nursed my old DIESEL Hilux from that roadhouse into Cobar with a dead alternator, couldn't have done it if petrol, got to caravan park, set up tent, kept motor running and got to auto-electrician across town, no indicators or wipers etc. He did a great job :)
Doing great, not much of a shoulder on those main roads. I've seen some cycle tourers ride on the right side of the road so they dont get hit from behind.
Yeah I've heard of people doing that. All the walkers are walking towards the traffic
Was reading about ufos over the lands you are biking through. See anything yet or been abducted and probed? LOL Stay safe. Watch out for the Yowie and all those Yahoos in the bars. 🙂
Cheers Mike, 3 months without a drink so no drinkies for me till i hit the pacific ocean
Emu egg breakie? 🙂
Emu breakfast
Good to see you continuing the journey. 'Fix a flat can' spray in the tubes after you tape up the rims. Should help the leaks slow up until you can get new tubes.
Thanks for the tips!
Videos getting better ❤
Thanks, Helps having more time in the studio to edit
I am enjoying your travels with you! All the best from Greymouth NZ.
Thanks mate
Great effort Lee ,you are an inspiration to anyone who wants to have a go ,wish l could install an electric motor on your bike for those times when you need to get there, nobody would know, bumped into you in broken hill at the 5 star camp you had by the lake and then at the supermarket ,sometimes l am on a 5 hour drive between towns and l think of you which would be a 4 days ride for you ,bumped into the your wheelbarrow man moving along at a good clip ,maybe 4KPH ,you hang in there mate with wings on your heals cheers John
Thanks John, so great meeting you and your wife. One of the perks of travelling. Wonderful having a chat with you guys.
Another great episode Lee, watching it on the large screen is the only way to go .Loved your choice of music going through that house ,looked like the perfect setting for a Mad Max type of movie.
From a retired Roadtrain operator & veteran cyclist. Everything is black, you need high vis options desperately. Low vis, natural colours only work well on the nature trails.
Munda Biddi is bike only. Not hiking. :)
Yes, unless you're hiking and need a place to camp
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon The Bibbulmun track is the hiking track.
Yes, I've done both. Think you're missing the point.
@Lynx-and-the-Falcon I'm not. I know your suggesting hikers could use them if they come across one, but they shouldn't be on the track in the first place. They are both for different purposes. Hikers on a bike track could lead to injuries.
Awesome vid!
Thanks!
Another brilliant section of filming and story telling. Glad you got a mattress. 😊
Thanks Jen
So inspiring to watch your journey. Hope you can slow down a bit now and smell the roses. Safe travels. You were lucky to find that water!
You would have been near my Dads farm when you filmed this.
Great journey. Camera work is excellent. Just enjoying it so much. Been into that area a lot. My dad had a farm between Denmark and Albany.
Beautiful part of Australia, love the S.W
Hard yakka beyond the Black Stump . A lot of those little ghost towns were abandoned because of toxic builds, chemicals and all the asbestos. I did notice heaps of broken asbestos walls in that last town.. Stay warm my friend.
Thanks mate
Awesome video Lee.ove how you take the back roads and gravel tracks when you can. That's where the magic happens 😊
Yeah being dictated a bit by time, weather and track conditions now unfortunately
Some varying weather elements in that leg of your journey. You did well to reach your goal at the Darling River. Look forward to the next video.
Thanks 👍
Definitely wouldn't have wanted to camp in one of them houses.
Na, full of goat crap too
I'd have stopped at Broken Hill, such a great town.
Slept at the mines public park they built, next to the humming mill, and to restock food. Yes, good town from what little i saw
He lives! :-) Been waiting for this installment. Evil wind. Some desolate country there this leg. Any fish in that river? Darling. 🙂 Stay safe bro.
Heaps of fish.....in the river
Hard yakka into that wind. Where's my neck gaiter? Oh... Thank you for sharing.
Cool Bro! Been waiting for your next vid.
Good episode ❤
