How to remove and fix F150 gauge cluster needle
Просмотров 15 тыс.Год назад
In this video, I removed the gauge cluster on my 2012 Ford F150 Lariat in order to fix the broken tachometer needle. The removal of the cluster is pretty easy, but separating the clear front plastic from the rest of the cluster was the tedious part. There job overall was not very difficult and can be done with just a couple simple tools. Extra bit not included/mentioned in the video... there is...

One of my biggest pet peeves is a dirty ass car. Bags, leaves, boxes & shit. smh🤦🏾♂️ I absolutely cannot understand why a man cant just vacuum out his car with the shop vac daily. I mean its right there in the garage. You dont have to go anywhere. If you keep the car clean, you wont have to keep cleaning it.
I need help ny topleft 7mm bolt wont come out it justs keeps spinning. I have no room or way to stick something up in there while trying to unscrew it to help pull it out
A little tip. Grab a box of tooth picks and stick them where the black plastic taps are instead of a card. So much easier this way.
when you had the cluster out, did you see if there is a way to replace the bulbs that illuminate the various gauges? some of mine have gone out, but I have yet to see even one video depicting someone replacing individual cluster lights. mine is a 2011 F150 XLT 5.0L.
So I didn’t separate the actual face plate from the back so I didn’t see any bulbs exposed other than the little LED lights that illuminate the needle. So my assumption would be that little LEDs are spaced out to illuminate everything else on the cluster. In that case I’d say you either need to buy another cluster or see if someone could remove and re-solder another mini LED for you.
@@Camsh0ts Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Another trick for the clips at 5:28…. Slide a toothpick behind the black tabs… slide the unit right off
I see a lot of people place the tape right along the edges. Did you notice any gaps/imperfections by going on the inside instead?
If anything I feel like going on the outside would cause more of a gap due to the thickness of the 3M tape. When doing it on the inside, the tape is still slightly higher than the raised edges resulting in a more flush fit in my opinion. How I’ve done it on both s2000s I’ve owned and haven’t had any issues.
How much did it cost you to have the lip painted. It matches really well. Btw, great video.
Yeah good video I'm also interested in the fender flares cant find them anywhere.
Unfortunately I don’t believe anyone makes them anymore :/ but the closest I’ve been able to find are these, but they don’t come with the side marker lights. @@Camsh0ts thanks for the info
what bumper is that?
Nice! Thank u! Now use that heat gun to remove the dealer decal!
I meant to include that in the video, but I did remove it right afterwards lol
Cameron made me come watch this
First
It amazes me how much different the interiors are. I have a 2013 F150 FX4 and it has the huge screen in it, with the MyFordTouch. I upgraded that to Sync 3. You would think the Lariat would of had the big screen and the better interior than an FX4.
Is there anything like that but wood grain???
Thanks for the video! It's so much easier when someone takes the time to show us how. May God bless you abundantly!
I just did this to my speedo, but I had to counter clockwise click until I was dialed mine was off by 11 mph
After my engine wouldn't start due to a very weak battery my speedometer needle is 15 mph off.
Post more S2k vids more often. I have an ap1 and love seeing S2k content
Thanks for the video! Your wheel and tire setup looks great, I have a black 2014 limited myself, and have been wanting a tire/wheel setup with methods, similar to what you have. What are the specs on them?
Just a heads up, you’ll need to a do some slight trimming to fit this setup, but here are the specs! - Leveled on Bilsteins 5100 front shocks. - Wheels are method 305 titanium. 17x8.5 0 offset. - Tires are BFG KO2 315/70R17 LT.
@@Camsh0ts awesome, thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to more videos of stuff you've done to your truck!
Bayson’s legit
looks good bro! hows everything been holding up? Also what type of screen is that you have mounted on the dash?
Appreciate it! Everything is holding up well minus the little strip on top of the shifter. Where do you find the replacement
Sorry, replacement what? Needle? I glued the original back together to reuse it if that’s what you are talking about.
Nice video, curious if you pushed in the clips on the underside? Were there holes (in bumper or undertray?) or did you have to drill yourself as well?
So there are like 3 holes at the bottom of the lip and 3 holes in the bottom of the undertray, but only one lines up somewhat decently. I haven’t popped them in yet, but I will. By doing this, it will push up the middle of the lip more to a more correct position.
@@Camsh0ts thx for your reply 👌
@@Camsh0ts does the lip come with the clips? If not do you have the part number or size for them? I don't want to order the wrong size clips if it doesn't come with it because I was planning on trying to pop those in too so it wasn't only the screws on the side holding it in. Also nice name
@@cameron2289 the lip comes with all the mounting hardware you will need. Comes with 4 screws (2 for each side of the lip) and 3 plastic push tab clips. Just be aware that the holes on the bottom of the lip don’t line up with the holes on the underside of bumper. You will probably only be able to get one or two in
@@Camsh0ts Thank you!
That was easy!!! Im glad I watched ur video. Thank u… subscribed!!!
Curious what you paid to have the lip paint matched? Did you have to bring something to the shop to match to (the car itself?) or just the OEM paint code.
So I used someone who another s2000 friend used to paint her whole car. He does work on the side when not doing it full time at his job. I gave him the paint code and I actually had him respray the front bumper and hood at the same time to try and get them all to match. Silverstone Metallic is actually a really hard color to paint match due to silver just being a hard color to match in the first place, along with the metallic in it, and also because over the 9 years the s2000 was manufactured, the same silverstone metallic paint code had very very slight variations from year to year. I think I paid maybe $500 or $600 for all of the respray, but it was a bit of a hook up. Should be less than that for just the lip at other shops.
@@Camsh0tsappreciate the feedback. I picked up a new old-stock AP2 lip from the UK in berlina black but need it sprayed Silverstone. My current bumper is pretty chipped, so I’ll likely look to find a new OEM bumper to get sprayed at the same time vs repairing the existing. Figured I’d give the gas door to the paint shop to do the best match they can with 17 year old paint. Good to know a general ballpark on cost!
I know you
Hey Dat!
Well done man. Good vid and thanks for reviewing this. Been on the fence about the Bayson lip 🤙
Had one on my first s2000 and now this one, both have been great. Lots of people run them and I prefer it over actual OEM because way less expensive , looks close enough, and less likely to break from accidentally hitting a curb, parking divider or road debris.
Nice work Cam! As someone who knew the first s2000, it's awesome to see you getting back into more s2000 content!
Thanks Jamal! Hopefully this one is better than the first

I ended up using heat shrink tube around the clip because the plastic is so delicate.
