Motorcycle Ride - January 16th 2025 - DJI Osmo Action 4
A circumspect ride as the ice has just melted, the roads are full of slush, and the sun is low.

Converting a Regular Kettle to a "Smart" Kettle
Просмотров 3782 месяца назад
In the colder mornings I wanted to boil the kettle before getting out of bed. I first thought about a remote-controlled plug, but on my kettle the switch won't stay down with the power off. So I designed this - it's a base in which the kettle's base sits, and a housing for a switchbot switch. I can press a button in my bed, wait for the sound of the kettle to stop boiling, THEN go downstairs to...

Electronic Rotary Table

The very first test of my electronic rotary table. The software is designed to cut gears. The basic UI simply asks for the gear module number, and the number of teeth, then it rotates for each cut, waiting for you to press enter when the cut is done. The software I've developed for this can be found at github.com/md81544/electronicRotaryTable

    I haven't been out on my cg for a few months, took it out yesterday. Turned fuel on etc, wouldn't idle. Having recently cleaned and retuned carb i thought hmm maybe i set it for summer not winter so set about trying to adjust it, after ages i manage to get it to light but it wasnt happy. Foolishly I set off, and all seems well, get about a mile away, conks out. Im adjusting carb etc, lights up but conks after a mile or so every time I stop. After going shopping and having it cut out at about twenty junctions, I pull up with it absolutely red hot wondering whats wrong and completely baffled I look at the fuel tap which is set to reserve not on because the tap points the opposite way, I set it to on and it lights right up and is back to normal. The reserve was partially blocked up. What Id been doing was using a blocked up reserve flow with restricted fuel flow and adjusting the carb so it would run on this reduced amount of fuel, leaning it out. No wonder it was red hot! Basically the moral of the story, dont assume the most complicated thing is wrong with something. Nice riding there, fun to watch! Cheers! 👍😎

      Sure! This is the switcher: www.amazon.co.uk/SwitchBot-Smart-Switch-Button-Pusher/dp/B07B7NXV4R It's controlled from my phone (or their dedicated switch) via BLE. I believe (but haven't tried it) that it will interface with the home automation systems only if you also buy their hub.

    how did you attach the motor to the lead screw? mine is a good 2 inch short of the end of the bed

    • @MartynDavis
      @MartynDavis 3 месяца назад

      I turned up a piece of metal rod with a hollow to take the leadscrew, and a grub/set screw to hold it, and machined a flat on the leadscrew for the grub screw. One leadscrew extension!

    At last one can say nice ride. Its nice to see little bikes out there. Too often see big bikes tear arsing down country lanes at the max speed limit or over , catching up with everything else on the road and feeling the need to commit to each and every overtake as if their life depended on making faster progress.[ or they may get a scalding for being late home from the wife ]. A ride on a little bike is just as satisfying and still helps ones mental moods. They are far safer than more powerful bikes as one rarely catches up with slower moving traffic so one rarely gets into a danger by overtaking anything but one can still keep up with the big ones on anything up to 50 or 60 mph country roads so one doesn't need a big one at all,. Nice to also se you wearing day glo and high viz. Although its questionable I think it is a necessity nowadays for various reasons. but some bikers even advanced ones and some instructors don't always wear it and that to me is wrong. Enjoy to watch and have many more of them.

      Hi, if you mean on the tailstock, I suspect the previous owner over-tightened the lock bolt on it and cracked the casting, and repaired it like that with a sheet of brass!
