Good clear explanation, thanks. Thinking of making some moulds myself but I was planning on using silicone sealant (smear it on the piece with a gloved finger, then add more over the top to make a robust mould) then filling it with car body filler - Reason being I make sets of toy soldiers to give away and I try to encourage the kids to have a go. Most of the terrain is cardboard, glue and dried tea leaves but sandbags are strips of paper from a shredder torn into 3 inch lengths and rolled up, which takes a lot of time. I coat everything in acrylic sealant and that hides the coiled ends well enough. They go down well and I was thinking this might be a way of making several from one master. The main drawback is that a big blob of sealant can take a week or more to set (it has to absorb water from the atmosphere and getting that into a big blob is a slow process), and in smells a bit as it does so (so leave it outside in a shed or sheltered place). It is however cheap as you can buy the sealant and the body-filler from a discount store and my sets are given away to less well off folk and $4 equivalent is as expensive as I want to go so they might give it a try themselves.

This is great. The algorithm actually worked in showing me this. I'm in the planning stage of an Adult Red Dragon's Lair Diorama/Scatter Terrain and have been rewatching some older Lava Tile, Volcano crafting vids. This will be the method of choice now. Thanks.

What's the thing you use for rivets?

Bro, can I ask a question? I built cool rocks from styrofoam but I don't know how to seal them. I need them to have a hard surface before I start painting, is there anything I can mix up myself? Thank you so much for helping!
