I made one of these with a wheel made of a 12" diameter 1/2 thick steel plate. It penetrates and pulls a core well, but I'm finding that as the wheel rolls all the way around and the tine tries to exit the soil, it kinda tears the soil up as it tries to exit. Like it doesn't just come straight out, but sweeps a path up through the soil. Not sure I'm explaining that very well, but curious if you have noticed the same thing. Do your tines kind of tear the soil as they exit? My tines are about 3.5 inches long so that might be the issue - Do your tines penetrate about 2"?

No thanks, must be easier ways to core aerate a lawn.

Keep it up ! Ps : what type of soil are you working on (ie: Is it more sandy / loamy or is it clay soil ?). Could be worth it to mention it to guide ppl on if this would work on their yard :)
