Another song I’m completely unfamiliar with but I just looked up the original and playing it acoustic + the way you sing - there’s sincerity but still a sense of reserve that you want to reassure the person you’re singing to and are hoping they believe you - I am not a singer so I don’t have the right vocabulary to convey what I’m trying to say. But I found Keith Urban’s vocals to be cloying and kind of cheesy and much preferred the indie rock/borderline alt country spin you’ve put on the song. Do you know Justin Townes Earle’s version of the song Graceland? I think you would do a rad cover. But I find Paul Simon’s version of the song unlistenable even though he wrote it. There’s just too much going on and his voice is too poppy so I never got the song until I heard Justin Townes Earle cover it and now his version is one of my favorite songs because I can feel why the narrator needs to go on a pilgrimage to find himself after a bad breakup but has no idea where to go and so he picks the most American place he can think of - Elvis’s house. I can’t listen to Keith Urbam for very long but your cover of his song makes me understand the appeal of the song.

I haven’t heard this song before. The lyrics sound like the songwriter has to be from Long Island based on some of the references and word choices. Your voice sounds a bit like Ben Gibbard’s here. I’m leaving comments to try and help the algorithm with more engagement. I hope it’s not weird.

I think you definitely have what it takes for an open mic. The way you adapted the tone of your voice to fit this song vs the way you sang How to Fight Loneliness - that type of skill would play when in front of an open mic crowd since they are often subjected to musicians and singers with far less skill.

Saw your post on Reddit. Your voice really, really suits the song - it gives it a more nostalgic melancholy vibe than the more cynical sound of Jeff’s vocals on the original recording. It’s also great stripped down as a purely acoustic song. Excellent choice for a cover and excellent execution.
