How much did she end up selling for?
To reproduce the build quality of this boat today, I guess would cost somewhere around $2M if it were even possible, I have 47' just like this one, and the craftsmanship is awesome, the detail in the joinery you don't see today and probably took the builders many months to create. In the 10 years I have sailed her, I never worried about safety. She takes the waves like a champ, and I'd feel confident to sail her almost anywhere, Sailing choices is always about compromise, but you have to compromise very little when sailing this ketch. I hope whoever buys her will appreciate the beauty of this 20 ton, full keel sailing vessel. On Facebook there's a Vagabond users group - lots of great information is there.
Gary, thank you for sharing you experience with the Vagabond.
how is efficiency?
FPBs are verry efficient - from memory the 70 has a circa 5000 nm range at around 11knots. we had an fpb64 - greatest machines ever built i reckon!!
@@mikechaseling769 Thanks for sharing experience. is that 1liter per 1kilometer?
@@duckhorn about a litre a nautical mile
Great video good background on the brand cheers

Hi Mitch.. New subscriber sends Greetings from Tucson, Arizona. This is the style, along with Vagabond, Hudson, etc., I'm looking for and I enjoy your videos.
Jerry, thank you for subscribing and for the comment.

I’m looking at a similar boat now. Do you by any chance remember the asking/sold price?
interesting to keep in mind that this boat is actually 78ft overall (LOA) ... the 70 from FPB 70 refers to the Lloyd's rule length (or LLL load line length)
Felicitation for your channels, you give an excellent description of the sailboats you're show, your voice and sound are like real professional tv animator with a real budgets production! Do you have a team with you?
Are those Yamaha NS10 speakers on the bridge!?
They are the HS5 powered monitor version. Same as I use in my studio.
A little late to the ball but I'd like to commend you on your presentation and nicely organized tour. I've always loved the vagabonds, solid seaworthy vessels and dripping in teak and character! I passed on a 47 that had a soft deck (retained the original teak) and she needed a new sheet set too. I'm sure Jade Dragon is plying the seas with a happy new owner, fair winds.
Speaking of late, my apologies for not responding to you earlier. Thank you for comment.
I’m absolutely fascinated by this family of boats
To be honest, I was skeptical at first. But after spending time on Atlantis, I was impressed. Truly a well designed ship.
Stunning!!!❤😊
Thats a big ass boat.
Nice to see you back👍
Thanks 👍
FPBs are the Defender Boats of the sea.
Defender is no way near the capabilities or reliability of this vessel. In a boat resembling a Defender i wouldn‘t dare to leave the harbor
Nice boat. Used to own a Cavalier 32 myself and am a big fan. I believe that's New Zealand kauri wood you have for your headlining, and probably elsewhere.
I remember this boat when it was in Dana Point about 15 years ago. Pretty but slow in light winds.
I owned a 38T and it had blisters on the topsides...real pain.
I knew a couple that owned a Hans 41 they hired most of the upkeep out and it cost tens of thousands of dollars. they re-powered her and had to dismantle the galley and cabin entrance to crane in and out the engine, a colossal task. these are breathtaking ships to behold but require infinite ability and suitcases full of money to properly keep up.
It would nice to have that kind of money to maintain a classic boat like that. It takes a great deal of passion to dedicate the time and money.
Great video. I’ll have check out your mugs. We love things like that.
Hey Floyd. Thanks for viewing. Unfortunately, I had to close the mug business. Wasn't selling enough to cover the cost. That's what led me to start doing boat repair.
First time I've ever heard of a boat referred to as a "he's a well built..." Especially when the boats name is Lorelie.
Trying to be respectful to the boats preferred gender pronoun. :) But seriously, I did say "she" but the "s" was overpowered by the music.
Nice boat . looking for a Hans Christain 34
Another good boat to check out is the Union 32 or 36.
Gorgeous
good stuff, love your boat and ya bean bag!
does this have a V drive?
Joe, I don't recall if it had a V drive. Sorry.
That, is the ultimate boat. I might start looking for one. Just beautiful. Congrats to the new owner
I love this boat, great woodworking. The stern looks like "OH no Mr. Bill!" LOL.
That's funny.
When i look at boats that are for sale on youtube. (particularly sailboats, as i am in the market),,,,,,,The seller never ever puts the price up for people to see. This is a completely wasted effort for the seller. I have just been to another brokers site and all i have found is two boats for sale and a million with "SOLD" splashed across the advert and they were all motorised speed type boats. For gods sake can you brokers get a grip, us that are in the market, particularly me !!!!!! am getting a bit pissed off with chasing fresh air. And if the boat is no longer on the market,,,,for gods sake get rid of the bloody vid or the advert, this too pisses me off.
Hello James. I am not a broker. I'm a sailboat enthusiast and do these videos for informational purposes only. On occasion, the boats I do tours on are also listed for sale by the owner or broker, in which case I'll put a link in the description to the seller. I want these tours to be "evergreen" so putting a price or sales info in the actual video would not make sense as prices can change and the sales status of the boat can also change. Hope you understand.
Good on you for clarifying the design and that it was both unlicensed and changed by adding two feet. To discuss this with the man himself he said this addition and other manufacture assembly choices result in a boat that Hobby's..
Kelly Petterson's 44 were built in the USA and considered a better constructed Yacht . The Formosa boats were known to have quality issues with the SS used for rigging , hardware and fuel/water tanks . However , there was never a sweeter looking boat in my mind .
Tell us the Price of these boats! $$$ how much does it go for?
I do these videos for my own curiosity and to share with other people. On occasion, they happen to be boats that are for sale, in which case I give a link to the broker in the description. In this case, the boat was for sale, but has since sold, so I removed the broker link.
What a beautiful looking boat. The engine being under the galley sink really surprised me for some reason. Hah.
I was surprised as well. I wonder how it impact the heat of the galley when under motor.
Love it thank ive the same issue .now did you try as an additional measure some silicon lube to further improve this issue?
Hey Jason. Yes, I put silicon lube on the slides just about everytime I go out. Sail goes up and comes down pretty easy now. Glad you like the video. Let me know how yours works out.
@@talesofgraybeard7964 oh yes i will thank you for the great info and good video!

Nice Boat, I had a Hans 44 Pilot House in San Diego In the early 2000 and new the owners Joe and Marce? sp? Nice folks.
Joe was the first person I met on my dock. Great guy. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago.
@@talesofgraybeard7964 I am very sad to here that.
FYI: New owner here. It was a surprise. I was doing some research on HCs and came across this video. I had not seen it as it was published four days after I purchased her. As for the blistering, she had extensive blistering below the waterline as well. I knew this when I purchased her. I realize now just how wet the boat was. She had not been hauled for almost ten years. The previous owners experienced leaking water tanks and a leaky water heater. The blisters below the waterline are the typical osmosis blisters. The blisters above the waterline are a different animal and only go as deep as the gel coat where the osmosis blisters went as deep as three layers if glass. The gel coat blisters are concentrated along the faux plank line details. It was explained to me they used a faring compound where the glass did not take the detail of the mould. The compound was the problem. I had her hauled and spent a good amount of money to catch up on the blisters. The hull was stripped down to the glass and each blister big and small was ground out reglassed and faired. Probably close to 1000 blisters. I'm sure I will have more blisters down the line but manageable now. They are not structural.
Slamhead, thanks for sharing the update. Glad that you went through the extra effort to remedy the blister issue. My first boat also had 1,000s of blisters under the waterline. Spent 6 months on the hard grinding, draining, drying, filling, and fairing. Was a lot of effort but rewarding.
Thank you for the update. I am currently looking for a HC 38. The Telstar is what I think I want. I would appreciate touching base to discuss your purchase and sharing any advice you may have for me.
Where are you docked now? There is one for sale in Morro Bay.
@@nrolled2888 I'm in the Sea of Cortez
I'm the new owner of this boat as of August 2020. Her new name is Redemption. Excellent walk through. I would like to use this video with permission.
Slamhead. Glad you like the video. Please feel free to use. Where does Redemption call home?
@@talesofgraybeard7964 I'm currently in Mexico in the Sea of Cortez and will be sailing for the next several years.
I recently purchased a 38T, not telstar. I cannot figure out where a trash container should reside in the kitchen. Any ideas?
@@TheSnowPistol Always an issue on older boats. Seems like they are never designed with this feature. How about under the hutch just opposite of the galley on the starboard side?
Hi. Im buying a 38 T in this moment, for a partual refit, before going. Consells ? Im north Barcelona in Costa Brava. Ex builder of minitransat argo 650
Beautiful boat. So much well imagine, the saloon, so much cosy, right for my wood stove...but long keel...not very easy to sail...
Perfect blue water
Yes. And she has the miles to prove it.
I'm just looking at all that wood to take care of.....NO thank you :)
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of lots of exterior wood. I have a little bit on my boat, but it's manageable
Great video Mitch. You did a nice job with the footage.
Cool video! Your boat seemed to handle it well.
Don! Bby!! You look awesome!! Great footage! Boys weekend out! Now! It's our turn on our beautiful "Claire de Lune"❤🙏🏾👍🏾
WOW that is a beautiful boat; IF I knew how to sail I would definitely consider this boat.
