Wow, this is interesting! I assumed that this was going to be a Kirby in Guest Star situation, but this makes a ton of sense. This seems to be like moveswapping in Smash Bros where you're not actually changing Dedede, but simply giving him Kirby's "moveset"

What I'd like to see is what would happen if Kirby was in Dededetour. Or at the very least the ending where he destroys the Dimension Mirror Also if that getting shot out of a cannon animation could harm bosses or mid bosses

Honestly I thought that the game would break in some way because, the game doesn't expect King Dedede to eat the fruit.

The dedede crash happens because it is trying to load an animation that is incompatible with dedede's model. Same thing happens if you make an ability scence "give" dedede (he is technicaoy an ability) to kirby and then you try to attack.

Crashing was to be expected there, the game simply does not know what to do when Dedede touches that fruit, because it was never intended for him to be able to get it. But if there had ever been plans for him to be able to eat the fruit, it might have been possible that maybe an early version of that mechanic could have appeared. Its sad that thats not the case.

Dedede can't use copy abilities, and there's no contingencies in place for if Dedede gets one. Immortality on Kirby leads to all sorts of screwiness. Kirby becoming a spinning pickaxe doesn't really break much, as every area stone's used has cannons. The world rectangle is designed to keep the game cohesive and immersive, and the bosses fair.
