I've been disabled since I was a kid and during my childhood only had a hearing disability. I wore/wear hearing aids and went through many years of speech. My vision loss started to progress at age 17. Blindness and deafness are both spectrums, I still have 5% of my vision and only about 15% of blind people are totally blind. Even if I was completely deafblind, I would still be able to know/understand I'm disabled. I could get my information other ways like through protactile communication or assistive technologies. If you want to learn more about my condition look into retinitis pigmentosa and Usher Syndrome.

Blindness is a spectrum and I didn't become blind until 17, so I've definitely seen people dancing, I also have 5% of my vision remaining so I rely on that. AND even if someone is completely blind, they could still learn a dance.

Not a waste! First off this is an extremely harmful take. No matter the disability, disabled people deserve to travel and it's not a waste of money. There are other senses besides seeing and hearing that I can take in and enjoy. Also, deafness and blindness are a spectrum, so I still have 5% of my sight so still can enjoy my surroundings.

@@CatarinaRivera I'm autistic. I don't care about your opinion on this take. My mom was a crackhead and hooker, who used her disability check to fund her addiction. She wasted social security and college benefits. I say "wasted" because she died of a fentanyl overdose. She was 57, and was on disability for breaking her tailbone and not going to the hospital to have it fixed because she was a convict and addict, and she didn't want them to report to her Proby that she was using, again. Shed already been to state rehab twice and prison twice. The vast majority of people I've met on SSI were just like her, and we're usually her friends. The elderly who invested in it never get to benefit from SSI without having to work some kind of part time job to bridge the gap. SSI is broken, and most disabled and special needs people don't deserve to live off the taxes of others. I'm just as opposed to SSI being used as a social safety net as I am of prisons being used to keep murderers and pedophiles alive, clothed, and fed. Tl;dr you don't deserve to live off my tax dollars and social security fund I'm required by law to contribute to. I'm poor enough as it is. I'm tired of funding the lives of others by force.

I can't speak for OP but there are different dialects and cultures of sign language, for example BSL (British sign language) is different to Auslan (australian sign language) ASL, the one you mentioned, I think is the American dialect. There is also a tactile version for DeafBlind people in most dialects. This is similar to the sign you might be used to seeing but instead of purely visual it is tactile and communicated via touch. It is usually called "tactile signing". Here is a link to the wikipedia article, although please keep in mind it is very preliminary knowledge on tactile signing and the many DeafBlind people that use it en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactile_signing

I have Usher Syndrome which is a genetic cause of deafness and blindness. My vision is not blurry but it’s a very small window. Some describe it as looking through a pinhole. I only have 5% of my vision remaining. I have worn hearing aids since I was very young and also did years of speech therapy. I had access to spoken language because of that and have always communicated verbally. My vision disability wasn’t diagnosed until I was 17 so I had good vision throughout my childhood. I never went to a specialized school. I was in a mainstream classroom with an IEP. There is variation within blindness, deafness, and deafblindness. If you want, look into Protactile communication, while it's something I don't use, it's a form of communication for deafblind people.
