How to Remove Stuck Brass Cases From A Resizing Die - Easy Quick Method
Thank you sir for bringing value to the 2A community! very in detail with your video love it!
Do you have to measure for headspace when reloading for semi-auto ar15?
I love the first suggestion: Put a Hornady lock ring on a RCBS die. Exactly right!!!! One thing I'll say in regards to tightening the lock ring down, once you tighten it in the press, unscrew the die, and then finish tightening that lock ring. When they are in the press, sometimes you can't tighten it all the way. That way, it never moves!! 2. Wrong way to adjust the seater die. Always use a piece of properly sized brass: Run the ram up, screw the die down, until it lightly touches the brass case, then back it off an 1/8th to 1/4 turn. Then tighten the lock ring. This is generally where you get the least runout on the loaded round too, which is very necessary in developing accurate/precise loads. Setting up your die set is a one time thing. Once set, you never have to worry about them again. The only time you will adjust the seater, is when you switch bullets. But then you are only going to loosen the seater stem, and move it up or down, depending on where you want the OAL of the loaded round. 3. Your press is wobbling all over the place. To make good consistent ammo, you want that press as rigid as possible. Don't just mount it on a flimsy table!!!! Good video, otherwise..
@lmbear - I’m working with RCBS to see if they can do something different with their locking ring. Your suggestion on #2. You are correct if you don’t want to apply a crimp. You can stop at that point and lock it down for good. However, if you want to do seat and crimp together you need to adjust like in the video. I just don’t want the viewer to be confused by your comment. But you are spot on if you only want to seat the projectile. Appreciate your comments! 👍🏻
The video is helpful, but please in future videos don't have important parts covered by the back of a black glove.
@331SVTCobra - appreciate the constructive feedback! 👍🏻
What's the light that you are using? I have rockchucker supreme will it fit? I'm brand new to reloading
@derrickparker962 - please go to this website. inlinefabrication.com/ you can look it up by your type of press. If you have any issues, reach out to Dan (links provided in the description) and his crew. They are awesome with questions. You’ll love it! 👍🏻
That’s my favourite revolver but with a rubber grip
Best reloading video I've seen so far for someone like me. I got all the reloading stuff, but don't know how to use it. I really should get that book
@andystuart4667 - appreciate the comment! 👍🏻
Hahaha, a laser, seriously? No SERIOUSLY, why 😑
@milkman81 - maybe to scare off attackers. I’m with you. It’s nearly impossible to keep the laser on target with the heavy trigger pull. 😂
3:39 most vibrating rock tumblers can be on for multiple days straight just fyi. Do you have to clean the nu finish or polish off the brass after tumbling?
@aquadonkey - agreed, I just can’t suggest doing it for liability reasons. I haven’t had residue on the cases when tumbling using Nu Finish. If I noticed anything, I’d just run the tumbler longer. Hope this helps! 👍🏻
@k2defense definitely does help thanks, i didnt want to have to deal with drying after a wet tumble so this is perfect
The volume is out of control on your intro and outro sound effects
@ericwin99 - early days of recording. My apologies! This has been resolved. 👍🏻
I run a Lee Perfect Powder Measure, regardless of AA#9, Titegroup, I find running some gunpowder thru it ten times or so helps to make the drops way more consistent. Not running powder thru the measure makes .1 grain inconsistencies consistently. Not a problem with light plinking loads, but working with near max loads that will make a hell of a difference between near max, max, and over pressure loads.
@pfcparts7728 - appreciate your comment! 👍🏻
I tried just that and I keep getting my bra stuck, and I lube it with case lube, it rips ears off my end of my brass where the extractor would grab. How about doing a video on where and how to set that die up
@jamesmorgan-p2j - what die and case holder are you using? Are they both RCBS?
@ RCBS 300 blackout dies also number 10 holder, I’m using imperial wax no more stock shells
@jamesmorgan-p2j - I’m working with RCBS to resolve this issue. The quick fix is to order the Lee #4 case holder. amzn.to/4fRoAx9 Hopefully they’ll get this resolved quickly. Just a side note, RCBS was bought out by Hodgdon so I know they are very interested in customer feedback and quality improvement. Hope this helps! 👍🏻
Love you boss.. the way you teach and precisely telling the truth ❤
@Mr.money4ever - well, I’m glad that it helped! Appreciate the comment! 👍🏻
Thanks for the nice video.I am new and I have a single step RCBS system. may i ask if you have a link where we can buy the "Lock and Load Bushing conversion kit. many thanks in advance
@patrickvermeulen2446 - here you go! amzn.to/4265oIx
Thank you so much for getting into the thoroughness and taking your time with all the adjustments and details. Good job!
@62vespa53 - appreciate your comment! 👍🏻
The real gunsmith says those rcbs institutions are bs.
This is hands down the best video for beginners on this...thank you so much! It blows away even the one by RCBS imho.
@The-um7pz - I appreciate your comment! Means a lot coming from viewers like you! 👍🏻
Great video. Did you lube the bullets as you would for a muzzleloader? Looks like there is lube in the bottom ring.
@shihanjulio - lube was applied at the time of sizing the projectiles. Does this answer your question?
I clean my brass before and after sizing. I'm just a little anal retentive
Nothing wrong with that! 👍🏻
I use 2200 for performance bullets for hunting deer!
@leerichardson8911 - lay it on us! Reloads or store bought? Let’s hear all about them! 👍🏻
How many times can you reload a brass shell ?
5-7 times is recommended.
Is it necessary to use the pocket uniformer after taking out the crimp?
@Deadleg1-502 - I have found that if you take the time to remove the crimp, you might as well clean up the primer pocket. Having a clean uniformed primer pocket and flash hole allows the primer to detonate and ignite the powder without restriction. Hope this answers your question! 👍🏻
@ it does answer it mostly. And I agree with taking the time while I’m at it. But, I’m still in my research phase of learning reloading, most of all my saved brass is 5.56. Just starting out, is it absolutely necessary for bulk storage ammo and plinking on steel? Knowing me, I’ll likely go ahead and uniform the pocket, but, could skip that and not have reliability issues? And thank you for taking the time to help me.
@Deadleg1-502 - here’s what I noticed in my journey of reloading. My process is always evolving. I’m at the point in my reloading journey that I’m doing micro adjustments to the way I reload. Meaning, I have a system in place that makes sense to me. I have labeled containers that I use to keep my brass in so I know where I left off. I don’t always have a full day to sit down and reload. Sometimes it’s just turning on the tumbler. For the first couple of years I had a white board to help me keep track of things. You need to figure out what works for you. Hope this helps! 👍🏻
@@k2defense I’ll go ahead give both ways a try as far as the primer pocket is concerned. Thank you for taking the time with me. I’ll continue watching your videos and picking up more techniques. I’m looking forward to the day I can buy my reloading equipment. Good day sir.
@Deadleg1-502 - good luck in your journey! Make sure to stop back anytime! 👍🏻
I had read somewhere that a bunch had been rebarreled to 6.5x55. Said conversion did not require lengthening the magazine box and cutting out a smal semi-circle of the receiver ring to accommodate the longer .30-06 cartridge.
Well explained die setup. I was setting up the crimping only slightly wrong, but enough to cause rejections using my RCBS Case Gauge. Now, I am having near zero failures.
Love it!! 👍🏻
You lost a setscrew off the locking nut
Yup nothing we haven’t discussed previously. 👍🏻
Nicely done 👍🏻👍🏻
@smsgtbulldog - appreciate your comment Senior! 🫡🇺🇸
The shoulder based trimmers won't work for pistol cases or straight wall rifle cases. So you would need two trimming systems. The Lee system works for all of them.
@fredfarkle7514 - appreciate the comment! 👍🏻
After looking at your colander sifter. Id recommend getting a Garrett gold pan kit for like $10-15.
@christophermichaels6569 - thanks for the comment! 👍🏻
150gr 7.62x39! Awesome 👌
Sub
@mobilegamersunite - 👍🏻
Unwatchable volume level unfortunately
@bassjunki - it levels off after the intro. Purchased new gear for future vids. Sorry!
Interesting, the VihtaVuori website shows that their min charge for a 123 grains bullet using N120 is 23.6 grains and max one 26.5 grains, it's the one that I'm using and they average ~2406 FPS from my rifle with no sign of over-pressure. Maybe Hornady is being very conservative?
@selmevias1383 - IMHO, yes Hornady tends to be conservative with their powder charges. I’m guessing it’s for liability reasons. 👍🏻
Outstanding
Nice job Buddy
Doesnt seem cost so effective to reload after all the stuff you have to buy to do it is crazy Ty!
The knowledge you have about bullets is fascinating
@661_RACING - appreciate the comment! 👍🏻
I’ve been reloading now on and off for about three years and always wondered where the dimples on my 223 brass neck were coming from and you answered my question!
@BradleY97 - yeah it used to drive me nuts until I figured it out. They will blow out nicely. I think the most irritating thing was that the dimples would catch as they fed into the chamber. Glad this video helped! Happy reloading! 👍🏻
fdjt!
Hello there - I found out I have a Franklin Arsenal tumbler with media, polish, etc., that came with my Dillon 550C. In your professional opinion, how many times can you / do you re-use media before tossing it away? Appreciate you putting this together. It is helpful, you got another sub! I see below the question was asked previously below, in case someone asks after me. Great question/answer below. Very collaborative forum.
@theociba3762 - I use my media until it turns blackish or it takes a long time to just knock off the particulates. I fall victim to the shiny brass syndrome even though shiny brass doesn’t make the projectiles go faster. 😂 you can “recharge” your media with Nu Finish car polish or any of the media recharges you find at your local store or online. I also use, used dryer sheets to help remove some of the grime out of the media as well. My father-in-law uses the same media basically all year long. Some folks use lizard bedding, rice, etc. the main take away is that you want your brass free from debris and not have any chemicals on it that can corrode it. If you need shiny brass, you’ll need to replace and/or recharge your media frequently. Dry sheets are optional but in my opinion help with reduction of particulates. I’ve had others email me saying that the comment section is a great place to share info so I encourage people to ask questions and reply and reply back to others with their experience. I certainly do not know everything and have learned many new ways of doing things by interacting with all the viewers. Hope this helps! 👍🏻
I love reloading i reload all my rifle including my 9mm i dont know how to reload a 12 i have a hornady reloader but i dont know how
@SandraFreeze - that’s awesome! I’m guessing you meant 12g reloading? I haven’t started that series yet. I’m backlogged with everything I need to cover with regular reloading at this time. 😂👍🏻 I’ll get to it in the future though.
This was such a blessing to find compared to the hundreds of others that do nothing but promote their own products, or sponsored products and take 3x longer to get to the point. I am going through your channel. Hope to find a 223/556 and a 308 reloading video now.
@ThGrtCanadian - thanks for the positive feedback. I try to keep things quick and to the point for the very reasons you stated. I, like some other reloaders, are a bit impatient and just want to get to the point and quit the jaw jacking and lay off the heavy metal music. 😂 I’m trying to streamline my videos to “bare bones” in order to help meet the request of my viewers. Thanks for the feedback! I’m trying to make this as easy and straight forward as I can. 👍🏻
Nice video. Just shared it to a buddy that has just started hand loading. You explained better than I could. May I ask where did you get those accessories for your RCBS rock chucker? In Line Fabrication?
@VincitOmniaVeritas7 - appreciate the comment! Thanks for sharing the video! Yessir, InLine Fabrication! They make high quality stuff. Check out this video! 👍🏻 ruclips.net/video/2e-brQAwTyk/видео.htmlsi=L5jh835FAoYIYHC7
As other people have said previously, this is a great video for beginners, more video's like this are sorely needed.
@swanseajaffa - appreciate the comment! 👍🏻
You, sir, saved my day! I had one stuck and couldn’t get it out. I was rolling along, reforming without any lube, and then it happened. I should have known better, but I’ve learned my lesson... twice already, lol. Anyway, I tapped a 1/4"-20 and extracted it almost effortlessly. Thanks again!
@vinago100 - glad it worked out for you! 👍🏻
Do you organize it so you can do a bigger batch in a shorter amount of time? Or does it have to be a one-at-a-time process? And how many can you get done in, say, a couple hours? Thanks!
@johnmontana8540 - I go through a lot of .223/5.56 so I have what I call an assembly line. I use big containers and label them, clean, cleaned and resized, cleaned resized ready to reload, etc. it’s a great system if I have an hour or so I can grab the “ready to be primed” container and hand prime them while watching tv or what have you. I usually have a couple of five gallon buckets full that always need cleaning so I just dump them in when I know I’ll be around a few hours and keep an eye on them. I’ve always have something going on in the background keeping me busy. Personal organization is not something I typically try to teach others since everyone has their own method of madness. I have a system that works for me that I’m continually improving to save time, energy, and money (if possible). I really should make a video of how I do it. I just figure people figure out their own way with the space they have. Great question! 👍🏻
@ thank you for the detailed response! I’m just now starting to look into it so I want to have a strategy before I start buying things and throwing them on the bench lol. Have a good one thanks again!
Thanks!
Lol your OAL will be all over the place as not every bullet is the exact same length. You really need to use the bullets ogive as a reference in regards to your measuring point.👍 If using the hornady bullet comparator with inserts in addition to your digital caliper’s you would be better well served. Great video quality and appreciate your efforts to educate those just starting out.
@goldenkangaroo4969 - sounds like you’re the expert in this department. Please elaborate more on your claim. Being that all of my reloads have the same OAL using this method. Perhaps you can explain to the viewers why my OAL is exactly the same and you suggest that it will be all over the place? I’m sure the viewers would LOVE to know what you’re doing differently. I’m guessing what you’re referring to is the CBOT and not the OAL? I don’t want to assume anything but your post is a bit confusing. Thanks for your expert opinion! 👍🏻
Thanks for posting this!
@observer4322 - 👍🏻
Little Gun.. you made my day!! Thank You 😊
