What Id like to see are some morally corrupt people fighting against death, they set traps for death, that causes death to take innocents instead. Then because of the motions they put in place aka the cast of the first 5 movies. Or something to that effect.

They still have more they can do. They still have to bridge Covenant to ALIEN and the queen xenomorph is still floating out in space. ( And let's not forget the queen xenomorph still at the bottom of the ocean in AVP.) The AVP stories takes place in present time when the corporation first finds out about them( unless they're going to ignore it.)

The original trilogy first started out as a full-blown horror survival movies. Now it's feeling like something completely different. Aliens is my all time favorite. I would say Romulus is the third best movie in the franchise.

This is such an amazingly good retrospective on the Scream franchise and perhaps one of the most well thought out ones I've seen. It even caught some stuff I've failed to noticed, rare for me as a Scream fan who's seen all these films probably a billion times and loves them for EXACTLY what you explore here. Sidney in particular shows such an amazing character arc. We see her initial trauma, then her as a trauma survivor who loses everything and runs, then as a scared victim who eventually has to FACE her fear, the ghost that haunts her. Then 4 puts a lovely coda on her story by telling us what she is now - a survivor who used her trauma to break the cycle of abuse, unlike the various Ghostfaces that hunted her, who all let their trauma and their emotions obsess and consume them to the point of murder. This is why both Sidney and Ghostface are SUCH good characters especially together - they're perfect foils, and even though their story has been finished in 1-4, every single time we see either of them they feel a bit lost without the other. They're ALWAYS, literally always, going to continue this dance of death and stalking, because it's fate and because they are quite literally made for and by each other. And that's what Scream fans who go "oh let Sidney have her happy ending" simply don't GET. Sidney can NEVER be truly rid of Ghostface (even though the role has grown beyond her) because Ghostface functionally IS her mirror image. It's fate. She is The FInal Girl in this universe. It was never a choice. So, while you can have Ghostface without Sidney, as a symbol of trauma and peoples' suffering or annoyance or darker urges taken too far, because Ghostface is a cultural touchstone in both reality and the films, you CANNOT have Sidney without Ghostface - she is functionally DEFINED by Ghostface's existence and THAT is why she became what she is. Gale is very similar, Ghostface even touches on this in 6. Gale made Ghostface famous and in turn, Ghostface made HER famous. However it's a bit different because literally the two are tidally locked. Sidney could break free and define herself despite Ghostface, but Gale pretty much can't no matter how she tries, because she's ultimately responsible as you point out here for keeping the legend alive. It's because of her that someone somewhere can and will always pick up the mantle and become Ghostface again. When Tara and Ghostface both talk about how Gale is scared she might wither away without the story, they're kinda right - Gale is famous, but she's in a position where she's scared she could lose it all. That's why she keeps backsliding, she has her own trauma and the only thing she knows is media spin. It's incredibly tragic. Now as for Ghostface themselves, it's notable to me that Ghostface is almost always someone who is angry, feels slighted, feels like they need to take some matter into their own hands, someone who is kinda psychotic and willing to help someone get vengeance, or someone who has lost someone or been traumatized. They're also just... really clumsy and exceedingly goofy in the sense they keep making mistakes someone like Myers never would, yet still make it happen, and that's pretty damn endearing. People weirdly identify with Ghostface because Ghostface is US. Ghostface is a symbol of anger, fear, rage, obsession, and trauma. And who amongst us hasn't felt those things, hasn't felt that little voice come to us in anger and whisper, "God, don't you just want to make so and so PAY for what they did to you? Don't you just wanna go stab someone? Don't you just HATE being powerless? Don't you want... revenge?" This dark little urge and call of the void. The mask and the costume is POWER, people become mockers of fate and confident in themselves in it. People become something other, something predatory and sinister in it. People take on the mantle to adopt a power greater than themselves, it's almost shamanistic. We see ourselves in this dark character... and that's the mark of a damn good villain.

@@ThorogoodFilms Thanks! I love these films and can see so much of myself in Sidney, and thus Ghostface. Sid is what we should be in relation to breaking the trauma cycle. Ghostface is what happens when you don't.

I believe too many people gloss over it and others make too much of it. The truth of the story for me is a mentally ill loner that is into living in fantasy and/or his hallucinations, and/or goes to a place once off of his medications. I believe his interactions with Lee are nonexistent or very very limited. I see Lee as someone that he sees for a brief moment and falls madly (pun not intended) in love with her and starts to fantasize immediately after he walks by. The scene where she does the finger to her head never actually happens. The fire during the movie the same...the fire is on his side, not hers. If he does actually get to spend time with Lee, she is only interested in him as a human novelty, not as some partner in crime. Lee just decides to leave Arkham because she's feeling better, not because she wants to start a life with Arthur. That's all in his head. The songs are all songs the great majority of people would know, that are all being heard in his head. These songs help him-sing (therapy class), to feel love, imagine love, help him advance these feelings for a girl he saw or has had limited time with, if any. I think going to the stairs at the end marks the reality that Lee isn't going to be 'at his old apartment', as if that could be real and he sees the fantasy who calls him Arthur, as in Arthur waking up Arthur...and she sings, he doesn't want her to sing, he really wants it to be real, but it's not! If you change some things around to Lee actually living in his old apartment and Lee actually killing herself after hearing Arthur's voice...the scene at the steps could just as easily be Arthur finding Lee dead in the apartment, allowing his mind to fantasize that he's outside on the steps instead of a bloid soaked living room. Arthur is wanting her to speak instead of her singing because he wants her to be alive and not dead...the metaphor or cartoon ascension (think cartoon death, dead cat playing a harp) is when Lee starts up the steps as Arthur will descend once he's caught by police in his old apartment with a dead Lee. Lee shooting him in the fantasy is Arthur's last dream as he's actually wounded at the end. Arthur lost in fantasy is trying to make sense of what just happened to him at the hands of the inmate -or- Arthur doesn't die, he's found before he dies, he becomes a mental patient at Arkham by reason of insanity. Cut to the end of Joker, Arthur looks older, he has grey hair in his sideburns and facial stubble, he laughs at all the chaos that has transpired in such a short time and says the famous "you wouldn't get it" to the therapist...the end of the first movie is actually the end of the second as well, with the second movie being all the fantasies he's thinking about as he knows the man who stabbed him is the same man that killed Mr. and Mrs. Wayne...

Mr. Dalton could have chose to give into his carnal desire when he had the chance to shoot Paddy but Paddy would have liked for him to do that, the same way he gets enjoyment from making others do things they wouldn't usually do or don't really want to do, pushing their boundaries further and further. Unfortunately Ant gave in... It's very possible that Ant will develop a desire for blood, as Paddy and his behaviors came to exist from deep trauma...So will Ant's. hence why we must 'forgive those who trespass against us' because if we don't forgive we will potentially feel entitled to do unto others as others have done to us. Long story short Ant gave away his soul for revenge and Mr. Dalton chose to keep his.

I understand your review however I go to the movies to escape, this movie did not do that for me. I want to escape reality not see someone sodomised etc, if I wanted to see that I’d watch a documentary about abuse. This movie in my opinion is awful and didn’t even extend the themes of how the mentally ill are treated by society like in the first. If WB wanted to make a billion dollars they sure as hell went about it the wrong way and allowed the director to make something that will end up in landfill. Awful, uninteresting, distasteful. I will never watch this movie again.

Thank you for this review! Everyone should like or dislike any film at their leisure, it is just entertainment after all. I just really dislike the new rhetoric of: this is boring, rather than: I found it boring. To me this sequel is maybe not "the" but at least "a" logical conclusion to the first one; and I usually dislike musical films. As someone in the comments pointed out: Angry fans wanted a movie about the Joker and got a movie about Arthur Fleck instead.

for me the movies taught me it was pointless in being afraid of every little thing that could happen to you when leaving your house like for example every time you enter a car it could be your last or you could be in a store when some crazy person with a gun breaks in and it will be your last shopping trip but always thinking about and freaking out over every little detail and the countless ways you could die both inside and outside if your home will just turn you into a mess of a recluse obsessed with safety and never leaving their home for anything the important thing to remember is most of the deaths you could experience are actually very rare and easily preventable by either a small non expensive device or by just using your brain and being smart like many of the deaths i can think of probably kill less then 30 people a year

In a regular infection, the xenomorph does not combine its DNA with a host. Rather, it behaves as a parasite. In Resurrection, xenomorph genes are spliced with Ripley's in a lab and in Romulus the offspring is a engineer-xenomorph hybrid.
