I know how to use compression and I for the most part agree. Fast attack and slow releases move things in the back, slow attack and fast release up front.

Really good advice! I saw a lot of videos about doubles, but your doubles sound much more professional and also not as dramatic, as other tutorials, and with much less plugins too. You should see my doubles chain before this video, my CPU hates me and I was drowning out my lead haha

after 15 years of producing i rarely use compression or limiters these days. i just to mix to zero and redline the master. wait thats a lie i use analogue compressors for saturation but thats it. if the mix is good it doesnt need mastering. on the master channel mine has nothing its completely empty. your master track is lying to you if it hits red its usually false unless you actually hear distortion. when you bounce the track it will level out to 0db again 32bit wav anything under put dither on. just dont go pass 0db on your other tracks master is fine. i promise you will have loudness and dynamics intact after this and it shows you there and then when a problem occurs. i dont use clippers anymore either. also reference other tracks if you get stuck

I find it fascinating how music is actually a thing despite not really existing, but it still represents physical forms of our reality. The fact we can even bring concepts such as sounding “far away” is crazy to me. There has to be some deeper evolutionary reason for this, or as Schopenhauer said music is the highest form of art; a direct manifestation of the Will that bypasses the physical world and speaks to the essence of our inner being. Sorry for the weird comment, but I’ve always thought about how we can “see” songs when we mix, but nobody really thinks more deeply into this. I’ve never considered compression as a tool in doing so, and your graph visualised it well.
