      I do clean the fretboard on string changes with Ernie ball wonder wipes, fretboard conditioner. I don’t take the strings off when I do that. I just go underneath them. I feel like taking all the strings off shocks the neck, and it may or may not return to my preferred spot afterwards.

      Fun fact: if you bought a brand new telecaster in the 1950s, it would’ve come shipped with 12’s. 11’s don’t take very long to get used to, stay in tune better,better intonation, less string breakage, less rattle on the fingerboard, and I prefer the tone. I can say this after playing over 4200 gigs, 30 years on the instrument and over 20 years as a professional guitar teacher and college professor of guitar.

    • @marcospintor1333
      @marcospintor1333 День назад

      @@KoreyHicksGuitar um okay. I started on 11’s and played on it for years. I never got used to it, i just played them as a beginner because on the box it says “medium” Also the fact that you actually believe “thicker strings=no string breaking” Isn’t true. If it’s up to pitch, the strings are under way more tension. That’s why Stevie ray vaughan broke strings at every show. 8’s and 9’s not even close to that much tension so they don’t break. I have never broken a set of 8’s or 9’s. I have broken many 11’s. It’s a very boomer thing to believe that “thicker strings = more tone and better” Nobody but jazz guitarist use 11’s and up nowadays because they want to minimize bending. If you’re going out of tune with 9’s, the problem isn’t the strings buddy. It’s your control

    • @lol473
      @lol473 12 часов назад

      @@marcospintor1333 A thicker string would be harder to break because physics. You also gotta remember that SRV played hard as hell. “Black fingertips”hard. You probably broke your 11s early on because you were new and you had to put in extra effort to bend those strings. Nothing wrong with that, ofc. Happens to the best of us. P.S.: There’s no need for the “ok boomer” talk. It’s 2024. That meme died ages ago.

    • @marcospintor1333
      @marcospintor1333 9 часов назад

      @@lol473 “a thicker string is harder to break because of physics” But proceeds not to explain. Breaking a string because i needed more effort to bend? How does that make any sense. It’s going to take anyone more effort to bend 11’s compared to 8’s. 8’s don’t break because you’re not going anywhere far. You can bend a whole step and a half and the string doesn’t care because they’re under way less tension. Yes you can over bend and squeeze too hard, making them sharp but chill out and play more dynamically, have more control. If you’re a big guy and it’s just harder, then yeah go for 10’s and 11’s. It’s a personal thing and you need to find whatever fits your hands. Hence my original comment to “i stopped watching after 11’s”

    Thank you!!!!! I always thought tele's were ugly, the body is just a slab and most pickps were thin and no bottom end, and some seemed muddy. That was with next to no experience of actually playing one. So 9ne day i stopped by a small privately owned music store. The owner of the store had several hook ups with Gibson, Fender, amd a few more. Somehow he got forst crack at hand selecting "factory seconds He got new stuff that were not 2nds, as well. Anyway, i stopped by, i had been orking all day out in the rain and temps were in the low 40's. I had boughz several instruments from him and frequently buying accessories, so they knew me. Trying to warm up, i think i stayed about 2 hours. I probably picked up and played 90% of the electrics in there. I see this ugly pale yellow, creme color tele with paint chipping are the edges of the body, like theyd used bad primer from the factory. This was no 500, 700,1000 or more tele. This was a sqquire afinity tele. I scoffed abd laughed with i got it down. My expectations....well i pulled it down so i could see what i thought would be the biggest piece of trash, would ever see. It did have maple neck, which I prefer. I ran my finera up the edges of ths fret board, expecting to get cut to the bone and have to call 911 for an arterial bleed. But, they were perfect. I figured the action had a bigger gap than Jenna Jamison. But, it was beautirul. I sat down and played it unpluggd. I asolutely fell in love. No BS! I have possibly the most badass PRS SE in ths world. Not an original part on it. I even had the headstock taken down to base coat to remove the SE and go back with a mrrored paul reed smith signature. Bone nut, new Shallers, tonepros 1 piece adjustable bridge, Slash al-nico II's, American ,pots, chromed knobs, pickup selecter sswitch. Incredible instrument! It is my BABY. It was bought by my wife as an im proud of you, 6 months clean, gift. Id pawned both my guitars previously for drug money. For 3 yeara i played inly guitar in the house was h 1/2 strat i bought fr my daughter. You proabaly ca see why i love that thing. Dream instrument for me. Sounds amazing, beautiful, plays like a dream. Im almost embarrased to say this...this tele i paid 100 dollars for,...plays and feela better than my PRS. I have about 8 guitars right now. I still memorize the notes with cycle four, but my focus is more so on the intervals. The best guitarists, and musicians overall for that matter, seem to all refer to recognizing patterns. Recognizing intervals is such a big part of seeing those patterns. Man it takes a lot of time to get there, but I'm slowly finding how well worth the effort and time it is. I just bought a new Mexican made Fender Telecaster followed a couple of weeks later by purchase of a Chinese made Squire Affinity with the belly cut. The Fender came with an annoying buzz on the high E string that my amateur, but experienced, setup skills didn't fix on the initial try. The Squire Affinity, on the other hand, came perfectly setup with low action, no string buzz and a superior first impression verses the fender for significantly less $. The Squire is so nice and satisfying that I ordered the new Affinity Flamed Maple Top in Mocha. It is equally good in quality and playability as the first Affinity. So, bottom line, my latest impression is suck up your brand pride and save some $. The Affinity is as good as this reviewer says it is. Thank you for your impartial review.

    I just purchased the exact same - Affinity, white Telecaster from Fender and appreciate your thoughts here! Mine arrives in a few days, excited, my first tele, I started on a strat, it was Affinity and I suspected all along it was built by the trainer, it was flawless, held tune, smooth frets on the neck and experts went on about it. I subbed and have vids if you'd like to see how I'll be using the new tele. Thanks and best wishes!!

    Thank you so much for this video. I am a 23 year old guitar player and singer, I mainly play old vintagey music like old swing and other styles from that era (1900s to about 1940s) and I want to some day, rather sooner than later, have a large and beautiful family like yours. I don't really play electric guitar, and my heart is actually very picky on what kind of music I enjoy... but I wouldn't mind too much playing anything that is acoustic, how would you suggest I start making connections within those styles in order to get those gigs?

      Lots of listening, and going to see musicians play that do what you want to do and meet them. I would highly recommend learning electric though - it’s worth it!

    The bridge PU is also full useable for distorted/crunchy Rock/Metal Chord stuff. Nothing harsh, sounds very humbucker-esque. Never found that on a Tele before. Thank you for this good video!

    Your content is very nice and informative but the views are very low compared to the subscribers on your channel. I noticed that you regularly upload videos on RUclips. I checked your channel and found some problems. Your videos are not SEO optimized, videos do not use strong tags, channels are not properly optimized and channel tags are not used. As a result, your video doesn't reach the audience....

    Hi Korey. Excellent lesson as usual. But I don't understand why the long stretch to the 7th, when it's just down one on the next string? I'm not studying music...hope it's not a dumb question.

      Hi! All these shapes are based on each other and it’s the easiest to visualize for a first set. There are actually 49 diatonic arpeggio fingerings (7 in each of the 7 major scale patterns) and the goal is to learn them all - and you might find a shape that is easier to play there.
