The previous recercar I recored is attributed to Anon; this one, in my copy, is attributed to Marco but with a '?'.... but they share a very lovely few bars...

Happy New Year from Vienna!
Lovely playing and pieces
and many thanks for your wonderful contributions to the enjojment of lute playing and happy Christmas too.
Thank you Rupert. God bless you.
Hello, Rupert. I know this tune as Staynes Morris, as it states in Ballet. Do you have the source for the title Blessed be that Maid Mairie, please?
Hi - I only have a copy of Allan Aelxander's arrangement that was printed in the LSA Quarterly November 2004. If you google you can find recordings and sheet music and recordings, eg , ruclips.net/video/7zMq74xuXqw/видео.html
Thanks for this, Rupert--a happy Christmas to you in turn, and all joys in the New Year!
Happy Holidays! I just got an 8 string ukulele as a cheap early guitar to start learning fingerstyle playing. I just love early music. I found your content very inspiring :) Cheers!
Whuiiii, I found a fun Lute channel!!! ><
Thank you dear Rupert. Merry Christmas from Vienna. Bernhard.
@@Viennalute and Merry Christmas to you too. Rupert.
truly ƿonderful, I enjoȝed it a lot, ſplended plaȝiŋ from you ſir, thank you
I just got this book. It's always a pleasure getting publications from The Lute Society. The section of rececares is preceded by a number of tasta de cordes (basically, tuning exercises) which are great to run through. Thanks for another inspiring video.
Gentle, sensitive music, well played.
Delightful! Thank you very much. I suspect if more people listened to lute music the world would be a better one than it is.
I think I might get a lute and have a go. Guitar player of many years and a fan of the late Jon Renbourn who got me into this type of music. Hmm a lute might be fun!
Wow, this piece is so rich!
Great keep doing this as people need to hear this
I follow your channel and I appreciate what you put out on RUclips. I am a guitar player of many years and I am currently making my way with the Renaissance lute. It's been a struggle. But, your videos inspire me to keep going. I like the pieces you pull from the available catalogue.
@@tonyzinnanti5905 you’re very kind. I get great pleasure from struggling away with the lute and its delight to be able to share it.
That is a wonderful piece and full of light and quite dark shade. Thanks for sharing these. Some really are too tricky for me but you do inspire me to have a go at others.
I like the movement and pacing of this one.
Whether from da l'Aquilla or not, it's most probably from an Italian composer all the same. Not da Milano, but a contemporary of him.
A great piece, indeed... To me, that sound is even quite medicinal.
They are brief but have a melancholy poise and elegance.
Do you think they were written to be performed, or for the pleasure of the player alone?
@ I think they were experimenting with sound sequences. Amazingly written down
As always, beautifully played and inspiring! My hope is I can get some playing in over the next day off. Got an archlute in a few months ago and I haven't given it nearly the attention it deserves. Time to hit the books!
The first seems a rather formal dance, perhaps an opening number, so the grand old dames can have pretense to "step out" without too much exertion. The second trips along delightfully!
Well played, Rupert. In my opinion: a little bit too fast. Thanks for sharing.
@@thomasmandl3113 I agree. I’m ran out of time to record it again.
Charming
What a lovely little piece! Cheerful and bright!
I took an Oath when I got my Ren Lute that I would learn 20 Milano Fantasias before venturing forth, and I'm sticking to it. But Spinacino charmed me from the first, and I have my eye on this rep when I get done with my 20 Milanos. Wonderful playing. Really enjoyed this video, Rupert. Thank you for this.
20 fantasias! Am impressed. I dabble in quite a lot - probably not 20. You encourage me to try harder :-)
wow! what a change. Delightful.
I like the tone you're getting. Very round and clean at the same time.
thank you - it is a very slow process for me, learning how to play this instrument! But I am enjoying it.
@@Lutelover I would assume it never ends so the process should be fun. :) I'm like 5 months so I am many years away from playing at similar level.
Keep going! :-)
what brand is this lute ?
It was made by Paul Egholm, now deceased. Basically a renaissance lute, but with a top string lifter for some reason.
Fantastic as always! The introductions to each piece help make each one stand out
rather dramatic. I like it.
Perfection or not, it is lovely. Thanks for that today.
Lovely playing :)
I think music is an expression of the human soul. The composition drew from you, a vivid image, nuancing your performance. To have played it twice as fast would amount to nothing if it went against the nature you perceived. I enjoyed your video and it’s the first I’ve been recommended to showcase this instrument.
Have some ricercare, m'dear? Is that chromatic moment around 1:15 the words her mother had said with her antepenultimate breath? Too late... But a great piece indeed, and beautifully played.
An excellent critique.......and I actually had Flanders and Swann's Tonga in mind - "Where it's hard to say ."....... chi chi chi"; .but in Tonga, that means No" but I think the Madeira Man is a better reference :-)
Я очень люблю образные сравнения, но думаю, что в данном случае здесь явно что-то другое.
1:00 my face every time I miss or fumble otherwise 🎉🎉🎉 nicely done
I really enjoyed it
Great progress!
Nice! You'll work it out. :)
Thanks for this, Rupert. I'd forgotten all about this piece and it took me a while to find the score. I agree it's rather incoherent, and there is one error which I missed in 2009 - the first chord of bar 8 should have e2 added. The previous piece in the MS is much better - the penultimate track on my CD and therefore available as a PDF on my site.
Oh yes - I remember the penultimate one - I'll dig it out and get better acquainted, thanks :-)
Thanks for this. Cheers
Very beautiful music and wonderful performance. Thank you, you made my evening a little better
Wonderful playing, Rupert. I would love to know whether you, or anyone else has any thoughts as to the provenance/original composer of this piece. Thanks again for your wonderful content!
My knowledge of such things is minimal - sorry - maybe someone else will know?
Wonderful music 🎵 😊
I love the sound of the lute, the shape of it. I had one for about 3 months, but I just couldn't get on with such low tension strings, it was like playing rubber bands. I admire those who can make rubber bands sound so lovely.😉
It's the only plucked instrument I have played, so I guess that makes it easier :-)
Thak you, Rupert.
Very nice!
Lovely!
I had one identical to this in 1997,don't remember steering with the ease of this guy!!
