    The "Primitive Way" is the hardest of all and the oldest. The first pilgrim was King Alfonso II of Asturias in the 8th century, but he was mounted on his horse and accompanied by courtiers.

I once read about that one … is quite tough, I think. Kumano Kodo is shorter, but also contains mountains. I once did a very super dhort short pilgrim’s trail near Kyoto, but cannot remember where exactly. It involved a waterfall under which the pilgrim should wash off all the sins or whatever. It was far too cold 🥶. It was early March. Anyway, I then rented a bike and toured lots of beautiful temples outside Kyoto, where Roman letter style street signs had finished. It was as jute an amazing little tour through all those bamboo forests. Also I went hiking on an island opposite Hiroshima. I was the only hiker, and there were supposed to be some monkeys in the hills 🐒. Fortunately I did not meet any there, but I had a monkey problem near Kyoto in Arashiyama park. It was scary. A bunsh of monkeys tried to attack me and I was saved only by a large family also out for a walk here so we outnumbered the monkeys and they then withdrew. So, beware of the monkeys … wherever. A “Dual Pilgrim” is someone who has walked both the Kumano Kodo and the Way of St.James (Camino de Santiago). To receive the Dual Pilgrim status, pilgrims must complete one of the options for the Way of St. James, and one of the options for the Kumano Kodo, then register at a designated site. I liked my “kilt” as well. I haven’t gotten a chance to use it in the rain, but I’ve been using it as a mat to take naps on the Camino. Sorry you lost yours, glad they are inexpensive and replaceable. Thanks for watching.

      You’re absolutely right. Why bring extra weight. Phone or headlamp will do the same. The trick to packing for the Camino is the less the better. You’ll enjoy “the way”more than hauling weight on your back.

    Meant to tell you: these shoes you wore on the Ingles, well, we checked them out and found them super comfy. My husband got himself a black pair and I went for mint green. Only, I haven‘t done an awful lot of walking in them yet as I’‘m currently exploring a bit of the Iron Curtain Trail by bike near where I life. Never did that before. Interesting. Later in the year I‘ll post a video about it. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the tip of those wonderful shoes. 😊

      I’m so happy that you gave it a try and agreed they are comfortable shoes. When our feet don’t hurt much we tend to walk farther, which is an absolutely plus when hiking.

      Still slow and steady. The best way to experience the Camino is to just take my time. Whenever I’m at home reminiscing the days on the Camino how I wish I would take my time. I’m always the last one to arrive in town, but I was able to take in a lot from what Camino has to offer. Thanks for watching.

    For may what on primitivo, what do you think about converse tall sneakers?

    • @Gettinglostonthetrail
      @Gettinglostonthetrail 4 месяца назад

      Hiking shoes preferably because it has more traction. Lots of up and down on the Primitivo. Always size your shoe half or full size bigger. If you’re not sure about your shoes, then try them on and hike 15-20 km and you’ll see if it can handle it. My wife did the the entire Camino Frances in sandal. You do what is best and work for you. Good luck finding the right pair for your hike.

    • @Gettinglostonthetrail

      Marmot Alpinist GORE-TEX Jacket Men's. I like the rain jacket because it’s lightweight and it has zipper under the arm for ventilation and to prevent from overheating while hiking. Expensive at full price, they do go on sale often, and remember never buy at full price. It is always a good idea to invest in an expensive outer shell for future adventure. Thanks for watching Umberto.

      It was a nice trail. I would totally recommend peregrino short on time to do the Camino Ingles starting in Ferrol vs from Sarria to Santiago. Seems less crowded and Camino Ingles is its own Camino, special. Yes, definitely shoes with cushions helped so much. And of course not necessary, but peace of mind with the water filter. The water bottle did keep water nice and cold. Wonderful first day.

      Started the Camino on March 19 2024. First day there’s always excitement and hard to sleep. Best to get up and start the day early. Some hills, but nothing like crossing the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles. It was fun putting videos together. Nothing professional, just an iPhone and piece it together with iMovie. You’re still going strong on your Camino. Thanks for watching.

The first few days will be difficult as our body adjust to the walking. On my Camino Frances I met a 76 y o man working on his 13 Caminos. On Camino ingles I met a 70 y o man finished Camino Frances in 28 days. Slow and steady, as long as you get to Santiago, it’s the journey you’ll remember most. Buen Camino Sir.

      We started mid June 2022. We got unlucky and experienced Europe very unusual heatwave. It was so hot that some town advise peregrino not to hike and stay for an extra day. We usually left with headlamp to beat the heat. Took us 35 days to get to Santiago due to rest day. It was truly a wonderful experience especially with family. Hope you and your daughter will get great weather and enjoy the best of the Camino. Thanks for watching Jeremy. Buen Camino.

    • @Gettinglostonthetrail
      @Gettinglostonthetrail 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching. The full loaded bag with everything comes in at around 8 kilograms. What’s heavy is the water. Water alone is already 2 kilograms, so best advice is to “camel up”, drink as much as you can at the water fountain especially on hot days. Cutting weight is hard because we want to bring everything with us for comfort, but you’ll be more comfortable and enjoyable if you carry less weight. You’ll be surprised that you don’t need a lot of things on the Camino.

Buen Camino to you my fellow peregrino.

      Yes Sir, you just mentioned it and makes my heart skip a beat. I’m a sucker for green forest, trees, birds singing, I can get lost and still be happy. 😆 I’m so excited. Using the same bag for the Ingles, took out the sandals and added in tents and sleeping pad. Your videos are very good, but have to be there to fully enjoy the beauty of nature with little details that camera won’t able to pick up. Following your footsteps,wishful thinking but after Kumano it will be the trek in Iceland you did, that hike of yours was epic.
