    You’re spot on! I’m sticking with Hue for the primary reason you mentioned. With so many lights and other WiFi dependent devices, WiFi bulbs in general got wonky after a certain amount (I tried LIFX, Cync, and a few others). It is definitely something that I think gets overlooked. The hub just works (after the excruciatingly painful initial hardware update, lol). So what Philips clearly misses with specs vs LIFX and other competitors, it makes up for with zigbee stability. Great analysis! Thank-you.

  • @trevorstepoo8838
    @trevorstepoo8838 Год назад

    It would be nice that LIFX could come up with a bulb that uses a hub with the same features make it more reliable, using Zigbee instead of Wi-Fi

  • @trevorstepoo8838
    @trevorstepoo8838 Год назад

    Hubs are great Makes the lights more reliable over Wi-Fi. I just recently switched to Philips. Hue discontinued, the LIFX bulbs because of connectivity issues.

  • @charleslaine
    @charleslaine 2 года назад

    As of November 2021, LIFX updated their bulb's firmware to support the "return state" feature that you discuss toward the end of this video. Apparantly their bulbs now behave wheneve there's a power outage. If you had the bulbs set to 25% brightness and the power goes out, when the power is restored, they will come back on at this same setting of 25%. I guess LIFX got the message regarding this obvious oversight in their bulb's design.

      @@goingtobeapilot how much was the blinds cable run? My first build is almost identical to your low voltage runs. I’m mapping out my 2nd build and planning to go with Lutron Serena blinds. Very thorough and nice job! The conduit is huge, especially to the attic! I was able to pack about 12 cat6 in my conduit runs. And conduit allows for future improvements. I have two of them and both have the solar panels connected. One is on the first floor with a patio cover which doesn't get all that much sun and the other is on the second floor which gets a lot of morning sun. Both face East. The upstairs solar panel and blinds lasted for a long time the down stairs due to the location didn't last that long about a year and a half. The problem I am having now is that I think both batteries have gone dead. I can't connect to them any more and both have gone off my grid. I really didn't need them connected to smart anything because they are the set it once and forget it type of device. I think I may have to replace the battery which is a pain in the ass since I have to remove the blinds again and reinstall the new battery. I understand that battery life is one of the problems I also know that I could plug it in but really who wants to run a cord from your blinds to an outlet?

    • @goingtobeapilot
      @goingtobeapilot 3 года назад

      Yes I definitely agree it’s a pain! And yes I had plugged ours in to wall outlets towards the end but there was really no good way to hide the wires. I’ve heard through the comments that these have gotten better since I posted this…but I haven’t personally tried them again. I also hear they have a warrantee on the batteries now but like you said, it’s a pain to take the blinds down to replace the battery.

      @@goingtobeapilot Just got a reply with a factory reset that I haven't had a chance to do yet. Will take about 2 weeks since I am getting ready for some serious travel plans in a few days so I don't want to get bogged down in test, take down, set up, attempt, reset, test, set up, take down and do it all over again a few times before I get it right. I have had both batteries charging for over 72 hours. On a charge they will last a good year. But I do recommend to anyone to consider getting a battery back up with a long charging cord (to set on the window) and just let it re-charge every 6 to 9 months just so it doesn't go out on you in the middle of being out of town. This is what I was sent: What I would recommend then is doing a full factory reset on that blind, by following these steps: 1. If applicable, delete the blind from your phone. Check the "All Blinds" section to make sure it isn't in there 2. Turn off the battery 3. Pull and hold down the hook on the manual switch 4. While still holding the hook down, turn the battery back on 5. Look at the green light in the motor box, it should turn on and stay on while you are holding down the manual switch 6. Let go of the manual switch as soon as the green light starts to blink 7. The green light should then blink rapidly before turning off 8. If it does not blink rapidly then repeat the process until it does Follow this link for a factory reset tutorial video: drive.google.com/file/d/1W9A1c2Uht2bFmDbeWFb7hfr19bPMetCH/view?usp=sharing

    • @goingtobeapilot

      If you have a crawl space you could probably run wires pretty easy. If you don’t, you can cut small squares out of the drywall and pass the wires through. It would be a good bit of drywall patching but honestly it might be worth it. All depends on the details I guess.
