Anyone who has tried this but doesn't have power to the wiring, did you figure out how to power it? Since this is an always hot wire, i wonder if all we would need to do, is let's say pull power from the lock switch and run it to the mirror switch connector? Firing pin protrusion--or the lack of it-- is the key problem. Installing an "Extra Power" hammer spring only slams the too-short firing pin harder, and risks breaking the firing pin. Fix the firing pin protrusion problem and save money on the HP spring. Polishing the face of the bolt and removing the "volcano" is a great first step.

Hello Tommy... Could you please tell me how you got power to the two switches? My Van is a 2017 Chevrolet Express, it comes with the cables and the fuse, but there is no power when I measure it as you say. Thanks for your help.

Ruger made their mini 30 around the American brass version of the 7.62 x 39. All you have to do to make it shoot Russian ammo is replace the main hammer spring with a stronger spring.

I have a 2017 Chevy Express 3500 15 passenger van and the part that you said to order for the switch to snap into GM#15136564 DOES NOT fit. Can you please respond asap? Thanks!

I've had my Mini-30 since the mid 70's and have had very few malfunctions. Probably less than 3%. However, I use absolutely nothing but name brand ammo and never use foreign made ammo. I may pay a little more, and have a harder time finding the ammo I use, but that inconvenience is less of a problem to me than having to put up with malfunctions and make alterations to my rifle.

Changing the spring will shoot steel ammo 100%.

Will this let you operate passenger mirror also?

Russian ammo has the primers set 25 thousand deeper in the case primer pocket. On the AR 15's you take 25 thousand off the tail end of the bolt then the firing pin drives that 25 thousand deeper on the primers of Russian ammo. Now the Russian ammo ban is on this may be an ending to a problem?

Were the mirrors rigid and solid? Years ago I bought side mirrors from Ebay before, and they would vibrate so much while driving. It was so flimsy, they were unusable.

I also saw fixes in way of running a stiffer or stronger spring from a company called wolf.i too was interested in owning a mini-30.but not so sure now i only know i dont want an aks,just dont like the sloppy fit of stamped steel parts.i saw a vidioe of r.lee emery shooting one and it wobbled n waved from percussion of shot.from that slow mo shot i thought how could an ak47 even be accurate.point is it wales even lead downstream ur bound to hit something and with wallop of 7.62 round its gonna hurt,thats only reason the mini-30 even appeals to me.is ruger only company that makes these.???snooky pa.

I see this video and as I hear about the problems you all had wow I’m sorry but I like to just say that I recently purchased one Ruger mini 30 and have been firing it and it’s awesome I have not come across those problems and I’m using Tulane steel casings but then again Mabe the problem has been solved by now as I can see that most of this issues with comments are from 6 years ago

Interesting idea came to mind. Pretty much every common semiautomatic rifle chambered for 7.62x39 is either a surplus rifle, or built from the same specifications as a military rifle, thus expected to be able to shoot whatever you put into it. The ruger mini 30 is Solely a commercial rifle, thus was never built with the same mindset. Kind of a weak argument, but it’s not technically a parts quality issue either if it can be fixed without machining tools.

Can you add the door harness to passenger and driver door ? I have an older 2006 express van . Just wondering

The original mini 30s had a .308 barrel (about the first 10,000) mini 30s. Now they have a .310 barrel. The AR 47 is a .311 barrel and so is Russian ammo

Mine shoots everything right out the box. Steel, brass, lacquer, poly it does not care. The mini 30 I have is very new 2019 I think? Purchased new, no mods.

I found the wires, as shown in the video, in our 2019 Chevy Express, but when I tested for voltage, there are no volts (I also tested with the engine on). A 10amp fuse is installed and came with the van. Any thoughts on how I would find out if these connectors will work for power mirrors?

I had an opportunity to buy one of these for 250$ a couple years ago... i knew about this issue so i diddnt buy it... had i known it woulda been this easy to remedy i would have gotten it.. oh well..

Given SKS's can slam fire with brass cased ammo, I wonder if Ruger uses a "lawyer" firing pin setup which reduces any slam fire dangers while at the same time making it marginal for steel cased ammo. With simple modifications available in the form of an aftermarket firing pin and also a heavier hammer spring the solution is there for anyone wanting to shoot steel case ammo.

Awesome video. Well done, and great information. I'm so glad I found this video and that you explained that you don't have to pull off the door handles! I took my panels off today and the connectors were right there as you showed. The only info that I would like to have is which brand of mirrors you bought. There are so many different ones that look the same, but I have heard bad things about certain ones that are not OEM. Once again, I am VERY thankful for this information, and thanks for taking the time to do this!

Thank you! I called the dealer and they told me these were not pre wired for powered mirrors, after this video I checked and had everything in my 2017 that you did. You just saved me a lot of money to have someone else do this for me. The fact that powered mirrors aren't a standard feature on a vehicle this size blows my mind. Again Thank you for the video!

If this is a Manufacturing Defect than Ruger should fix it! This is an uncalled for discussion among. Ruger Mini 14/30 owners we should all send letters into Ruger Customer Service and demand a recall!

Shame on YOU for not reading Ruger's manual. It clearly states that the Mini Thirty is designed to be fired using BRASS ammunition. NOT steel case. The reason is that Russian steel sets theprimer just a bit further forward (away) from the firing pin.

Do you need power windows to do this? I have manual mirrors and windows. Am I outta luck to do this?

I know im 6 yrs behind here but with my mini my theory is the "steel cased usually russian" ammo has a slightly recessed primer seating resulting in the shallow penetration not causing primer ignition. Just my theory among many other credible ones in the community. Thx have a great day.

After 5 years i just bought my mini 30 189 series back from a friend. I had never really fired it. I then stocked up on ammo..... TULA ! I tried it out. In 20 rds, i had 4 FTF light strikes. W/ a re-try, 2 fired 2 did not. SO, I put in a WOLFF Extra Power Spring & tried the 2 non-firing light strike rounds. BANG BANG !!! Try The WOLFF Spring. It Sure Worked For Me. A TOTALLY SIMPLE FIX ! (PS, before the semi-shtf & the Wolff spring i got two 600 rd cases of Sellier & Bellot brass boxer shipped to my house From Targetsportsusa.com. as i assumed the Tula would be N.G. A Good Price & Good Service..... If They Ever Get It Again !)
