I really liked that scene when I first saw it. And then I saw some videos highlighting the issues with it and now I can’t watch it without seeing them. Wish I would have remained ignorant lol

I understand the plot justification for her defeating Kylo but by that logic (and the miracle that he could even fight) Finn probably should have beaten Kylo instead of getting carved up. At least by that point he’d used a lightsaber and being a stormtrooper, had some formal training (though one could argue stormtrooper training might make one a worse fighter lol) versus her informal training. It still doesn’t mean she earned the victory. It also made her look overpowered and Kylo weak. But maybe that’s what they were going for. Let’s just say it didn’t work as well as they wanted.

Rey should still have had her arse kicked but that's not allowed with today's female characters. Nor are they allowed to rely on male physical strength. She was almost the start of the Mary Sue and it's no co-incidence the more they do trope the worse their views/box office is with the culmination the Acolyte. What a disaster.

Also, Kylo was kinda portrays as being unable to control his emotions. Rey was shown to be more sensible and defensive in her attitude to the battle and so overcame Kylos blind anger

@@lugismansion2400 according to later lore, lightsabers are not that easy to use for non-force users. The density varies and moves throughout the blade erratically. It doesn’t mean they can’t use it, but that it’s difficult. Also, it’s pretty easy to assume that lowly stormtroopers don’t have extensive CQC training over blaster work. Rey is shown to be proficient with at least a staff.

But she still used those strong abilities with zero training: a good Force Welder needs training to use their gifts yes Rey was gifted in the force thanks to Palpatine: however where her character falls flat is that she’s able to do things that takes others years or decades of training to master, that’s why Anakin and Luke despite having essentially the same power are much better characters because they learned, because they was trained and when they learned new abilities passively it made sense when it did, since they had the training in order to use them in the first place and also the fact that she never lost an important fight is also why people complain about that as well

@@darkenkil4416 the only thing she is proficient at is her staff that much is true, but she shouldn’t have been able to pull her lightsaber back to her during her first duel with Kylo Ren, in fact that’s where she should have lost, yes in the second movie does it show her getting some training but somehow immediately masters it in hours, while it took Jedi and Sith like Luke, Anakin, Mace, Palpatine, Dooku, Maul longer, which is why they was so good at it, Rey’s case is that she is just good at everything, also earlier in the first movie she’s never flown anything in her life to my knowledge, yet she somehow perfectly (and somehow does it BETTER than Han and Chewie, and Lando) flies the busted up Millennium Falcon out of Jakuu while running away from the First Order, I don’t know about you but if you or I was put into that same position, we wouldn’t have survived and neither should they have survived, hell it would have made more sense to put Finn on the wheel and Rey on the gun since Finn most likely would have been trained to fly a star fighter

@@darkenkil4416 dude if you recall, Luke LOST his first duel with Vader: he went to train some more(which took a few years in between movies btw) then he was strong enough to face Vader not only because he was the son of Space Jesus, but also because he was even more powerful and arguably Luke didn’t even DEFEAT Vader: Palpatine defeated him through Sith Lightning, then Vader died and became Anakin once more and the life systems failed due to the Sith Lightning and it was Anakin who ultimately defeated the Empire

There ARE other problems, but most of them in the first 6 movies are relatively minor. It's okay for people to not like things you like, or to critique things you like. You shouldn't let that take away from your enjoyment of them. I like some things the sequels did, but overall I think they were poorly written, especially as a trilogy, since they literally had two different writers pulling the story in multiple directions. If you don't think that, good on you. I wish they'd been more consistent, and if so, the arc people claim she has might have come through better in the films they put out. I like disagreement and people challenging my views, so it's welcome, but just don't be an ass about it.

Even if that was the case he should have easily dispatched her, someone who was trained in the Jedi arts Vs someone who wasn’t shouldn’t end well for the one who didn’t have any formal training with a single bladed weapon

Also, it’s pretty clear he is far from the talents of the previous dark side members. He is far on the opposite side of both Vader and Dooku and cannot control his emotions. Rey is shown to be inexperienced but can keep her head screwed on and rely on her friends to help.

Dosen’t matter: a trained and skilled combatant shouldn’t loose to an unskilled and untrained combatant, Anakin was an unskilled and untrained combatant who was swiftly defeated by a duelist who was an expert: Luke only trained in the Force and not with the weapon so he was swiftly overpowered by Vader who’s had years of experience in both: Kylo Ren was trained by Luke Skywalker himself and yet lost to an untrained noob with zero force abilities or combat training

Then maybe Finn shouldn't have lost.

Calling a skywalker (the strongest naturally gifted force users) with years of training under the strongest Jedi to ever live and years of training under one of if not the strongest sith to ever exist, should definitely beat someone with no lightsaber OR force training. Bro. Living in the desert and eating a single bun every day then messing around twirling a staff with no instruction or sparring opponent doesn't make you strong. It's not training. Have you ever seen some loser who fucks around with boxing stuff in his backyard go into an actual gym and try to fight? They get _rolled_. Zero difficulty. Even Luke, who wasn't formally trained with a lightsaber, spent nearly a year working and training with the rebellion and all their skilled fighters, Saw a large amount of active combat, and had intense dedicated one on one training from one of the greatest training masters of all time for an unspecified period that was long and strenuous enough to see major growth. Rey fucked around with a stick by herself and hardly ate anything. She aint trained. And yet, she defeated Kylo Ren, who was directly trained by both Luke and Snoke, (who is literally just darth sidious) and was outright stated by the creators multiple times to be on a similar level of power as Darth Vader, even killing a zillo beast vader was unable/unwilling to defeat. The only way you could possibly justify this is if you say that he was already defeated by chewbacca's bowcaster shot, and ray just cleaned up a man already on death's door. But if that was the case, he couldn't have beaten fin, who was later revealed to be force sensitive, and who at that time was a fully combat trained first order stormtrooper. Kylo beat fin easily, showing he was in good condition, and then promptly lost to an underfed backyard warrior from the ass end of nowhere with little to no combat experience. I call bullshit.

Ah yes because even a clone trooper could pick up a lightsaber and defeat a sith with barely any issues.

The point stands that Kylo had more training than Rey, so even though kylo would get owned by the other two mentioned, Rey still shouldn’t have won with no experience

Kylo Ren being lame should not be an excuse.
