Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 - 5G LTE Version (Unboxing & Review)
Hey there cool kids, we're back with an unboxing and review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5.
Spoiler alert - I got the 5G LTE version to test the tablets ability to make and receive phone calls and texts directly using the SIM card from the carrier (as opposed to a 3rd party app) - and it did not work.
Samsung clarified that this limitation is in place so that consumers don't stop buying phones. Take that for what you will.
Also tested, using Whatsapp to send/receive calls using the SIM's call plan - does not work. Whatsapp does work over data, but not as a dialer.
Google Phone will not install on the tablet at all whatsoever. It won't appear as an option in the play store app. Going to t...

Hey there cool kids! I'm back with another build in the Copper Chopper series - this time, we're scratch building a teardrop trailer using an old kids bike trailer as a base. A lot of the items used in this build, like the ambient solar panels, bamboo hardwood flooring, and dry storage bins were found materials from past projects here in the shop. Hey there cool kids! I'm back with another Copper Chopper build. You may recall that I previously tested the SmartBikeWheel as a way to turn the Copper Chopper into an E-Bike. So I went to the opposite extreme, and installed the BBSHD 48V 1000 Watt Bafang mid motor kit! You can fi...

Does it have a sim slot?
@@MindangJunior the lte version does, the wifi version does not.
Excellent video!! You really took the time to explain everything about this tablet, thanks 👍
Wow amazon ätze maising
most sims today come with popout capability so you already have a nano in your micro and if you are careful you can even pop it back in gently for when needed
I'm using the 5G version (SM-X306B) in Europe. This thing accompanies me through my whole work day. As a navigation system (even on my motorcycle), phone, note taker, for technical drawings and docs, as a media center. It does it all. No issues. The most universal device, that I ever owned. I'm extremely happy.
How did your pond pump box work out?
It's amazing! Still works great. Only maintenance is it needs rinsing off and cleaning out about 1-2 times per year :)
Your rage at Samsung seems over the top. Do you know pretty much NO US cellular TABLET EXCEPT the earlier Active tablets could ever make calls? I believe this is more about US carriers than Samsung being evil. This is ‘not a real 5G /LTE device because it doesn’t make calls”? Really? My friend, LTE was originally a DATA ONLY technology even on phones. For example the s4 was an LTE phone for data but 3G for calls. To this day Verizon’s 5G is data only on phones. All calling is LTE. I like you am a tablet centric guy. But the idea that the world is clamoring to shove a giant 8 inch device that is the thickest tablet on the planet into their pockets over a phone is laughable. This is the third such device at this size and I doubt 1 in a hundred people have ever SEEN ONE in their life. 8 inch tablets as a phone? That is what the Fold series is for. Samsung likely sells more 2000 Folds in a month than cellular versions of 8 inch Active tablets EVER. This is a niche product in the tiniest niche of ANY Samsung device. It is a market that Samsung OWNS because nobody cares about it because in is so small. Dude you keep a decade old phone that sold so poorly Samsung has dropped the line. That is fine. Just recognize you are not a typical user. I don’t think that denying the 500 people in the US who use an active 3 as a phone is going to sink the company.😂
@Maui2Boise I would agree on several points. It's definitely not going to sink the company, and I am definitely not a typical user. That being said, I think it's justified to be upset enough to return a device that does not perform as advertised. I directly contacted Samsung prior to my purchase to verify calling. It was not until I had wasted a week of back and forth with my carrier and Samsung did Samsung admit to intentionally limiting the device in an effort to keep people buying phones in addition to tablets. My frustration is primarily fueled by the deception and the time sink. Also I find it frustrating that not only does Samsung impose a software restriction to prevent direct dialing, but they have also imposed restrictions disabling one's ability to sideload apps (like Google phone) that would circumvent the native phone app. That's a pretty dick move IMHO. And that's on Samsung, the carriers - regardless of how shifty they can also be - didn't put that in place. Re: the fold- respectfully that's not a replacement, the crease problem is real, and even if that were perfected a fold won't work for my use case scenario (as a dashboard for my ebike). While I may be one of the few who have tried this, I'm certainly not the only one, as I got the idea from a guy using the active 3 as a dashboard for his motorcycle. In the States, I would hardly refer to the ebike and motorcycle market as niche. If this product did as advertised and if Samsung cared to advertise it to that market, it would sell incredibly well. Not all 'phones' need to be able to fit in one's pocket, IMHO. (Incidentally the tab active does fit in the back pocket of all of my pants) Additionally, the form factor is essentially the same as an iPad mini, just thicker- which I feel is a worthy trade off for the durability, the benefit of being able to use the device with gloves on, and the ability to use the device in heavy rain. All of which are must haves for dashboard use. Re: my 10 year old phone - lol totally. This is also what stirred frustration as I bought the Tab Active 5 in an effort to replace both the phone and the Active 3 in a newer and more capable combined product. Unfortunately I am still using the 3, and have upgraded my phone to the S22Ultra (which is amazing, but I would still prefer to not carry a phone at all, especially if it means carrying 2 devices, and there is no way I'm using a flagship phone as a dashboard lol its too small, too breakable, and too expensive). I still may go with an active 5 when the software upgrades stop for the 3, but I would buy the international model next time, which should work for direct dialing. In the end the Tab Active series was developed for enterprise- not for individuals, and so I am definitely not the target market Samsung intended for this device. It would be awesome though to use a device advertised as LTE to answer calls while riding. Perhaps one day. Anyway thanks for weighing in and have an awesome holiday weekend.
My friend where is it “advertised” as being able to make LTE calls? Uninformed sales agents assuming a device they’ve likely never laid hands on has the same features the last device had is not an advertised feature. The fact that you had to ask makes it clear this is not an advertised feature. I work for Verizon tech support I have spoken to Samsung many times. I will strongly suggest sales assumed calling. And tech is assuming the reasons that tablet has no calling feature. Nobody is telling tech /care agents that a feature is gone because it forces phone sales to make Samsung more money so they can tell the public. Even if it IS the reason they ain’t telling people who can tell you. I assure you they get tired of hearing “why” and make a logical guess. My original point is that simply labeling a tablet as LTE or 5G is by no means deceptive advertising as every other LTE/5G tablet in this market cannot make calls. That said nobody begrudges you for returning a tablet that does not meet your needs I’ve returned 3 tablets this year. As far as side load restrictions, you act like Samsung gets something out of it. Google and Apple make bank but nobody buys from the Galaxy store Now I’m going to do that tech agent guess I talked about. Side loading creates support nightmares. As a user I loved side loading back in the day. As a tech rep, I hate it as I have no idea what you’ve done with the phone. All that said 😮I know I come on a little strong. Please know I actually enjoyed your review immensely. I considered an LTE 3 myself and am looking at the 5 which is why I am here. I have often considered going tablet as phone too. But I just acknowledge I’m a weirdo 😂
@ well if u do decide to try the 5, get the global/international model. Apparently it can make and receive calls, at least using European carriers like vodaphone. I’d love to know if you’re able to make that model work with Verizon. I’m on AT&T but from what I can tell the restriction is baked into the software in the model made for US production, so the intl model should work for all carriers in theory. Re: advertising- I actually saw a Samsung ad spot meant for businesses that advertised the tablet as ideal for remote tech support, wherein a user held the tablet on one end of a video call aimed at some tech that needed repair, and the tech on the other end of the call was able to draw and write directly on the video. It was pretty cool, and I may have just assumed they were using a native app when instead they were using something like google meet. Strangely enough, google meet did work to make video calls out, and when I tested that with my wife I rang in on her phone as calling from my number. But the reverse wasn’t true, I couldn’t receive google meet calls when not on WiFi. It’s totally weird. Anyway let me know if you try it, would love for this to work. If so I will likely get the global model when I’m ready to try for another upgrade. 👍
Clearly I take back my criticism as your “raging” got us all useful information. 😂 I can tell you Verizon is NOT good in that scenario. Att and TMobile play nicer with non-US devices than we do. For example, all those Chinese phones not sold in the US are far easier on other carriers. There are undocumented tricks that an experienced agent like me can sometimes do to get past constraints but Verizon does not train agents how to do it, and discourages it, so odds are that they will tell you it is an unsupported device.
@Maui2Boise lol all good man, I was definitely raging a bit. 😀 Good to know rs: Verizon. If my wife would let me leave the AT&T zone I would probably try Mint mobile. Maybe she will, we did just dump them for internet. Anyway happy turkey/tofurky day!
I think it's the US carriers that don't want tablets that make phone calls. Every tablet model Samsung has released comes in a variant that makes phone calls natively. I've been using 8" Samsung tablets as my primary phone since 2012. Folks living in the US have to buy the desired model's international variant and use it on a carrier that doesn't white list phones. Historically this has meant AT&T, T-Mobile, and MVNOs using those networks. Then it's a matter of taking the sim out of your tiny phone and putting it into your tablet. If Samsung is following this channel: please make an Tab S10 Mini.
I'm in Brazil and here the 5 works to make and receive calls, everything is normal, it works like a cell phone, perfectly. (using the international version)
Hey Lionsgatebr, I have a question for you: when you launch the dialer and tap in a number, does it then launch a small, mini dialer? I have the SM-T575 (the global version of the Active 3) with the native dialer app, so it is a giant cell phone. But peculiarly, after I put in a phone number, a mini keypad pops up that actually dials the number. Does that happen with yours?
@DaphneLowe I hadn't noticed that, but after reading your comment I went to check and actually when we enter a number everything appears in normal size, like a giant cell phone, but when the dialer opens it stays in a small size, but in the top corner there are some options where you can increase or decrease the dialer, you can make the screen the entire size, but this has to be done for each call, I haven't found a setting that keeps this fixed.
@@lionsgatebr Thanks for the confirmation!
Hi, I am interested specifically which tab 3 active model do you have which can make the calls? I think I'll be able to sell my tab 5 active and want to go with tab 3 active
@@SabaUrushadze-l2w my active 3 is the WiFi only version. It makes calls via WiFi using teams and Google voice, but does not have a SIM card.
Was this a one off experience? How many other active 5 u it’s did you test? Is it isolated to one carrier in particular?
@@JeffGillis-lv1rz I just tested the one, but Samsung confirmed the limitation. I don’t believe the carrier was the issue.

In The Netherlands you can get specific cellular contracts with this tablet, but only with two out of 3, Vodafone is still in tantrem mode 🙂 And of course you can always go sim-only and transverse your number to that new contract. That should work.
бляяя,как вы любите пиздеть много!
Hi, I have SM-X308U and I cannot make calls even though Samsung support said that this LTE 5G model supports calling and they said I just have to call the network provider but they told me that everything is ok on our side. WHAT CAN I DO?
@SabaUrushadze-l2w either Samsung is lying or the representative you spoke with is unaware of the software restriction. I'm very sorry, but that model is restricted from making and receiving calls directly in the US. The carriers can't fixing, it's imposed by Samsung. Samsung has further prevented alternate phone apps like Google phone from being loaded from the play store or even side loaded from an SD card. If you are able, you should return the tablet and get the international version. Alternatively you could use the 'call and text on other devices' feature and have the tablet use your phone instead of making and receiving calls directly, but this requires you to be on the same wifi network as your phone, so it's kind of pointless in my opinion.
@SabaUrushadze-l2w you need the x306b version, that's the international one without the software restriction- and even then I have yet to hear if anyone has gotten it to work with an American carrier. If u do please let us know.
Thanks for the detailed information! The thing is I am not from the USA! I am from Europe, so is there still no way to fix this ?
@SabaUrushadze-l2w that is a really good question- I didn't know they were selling that model overseas. If I understand it correctly the model has the restrictions built into the OS/UI software. So it shouldn't work for calling regardless of location.
Woah... They are so sneaky. So Tab 3 active works normally right? calls and etc. I have that model in mind
SIM Nano-SIM, eSIM or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) From their spec.. Thanks for calling that out...
Thank you for this video.... I was planning to get one of these Tabs with the same intention as you to replace my old Tab that i use as a phone and have done for 7 years. Im sad as I have a Galaxy tab A7 with 4G and love use it as a phone/ pocket computer, sadly its getting old and clunky and needs replacing and i dont want to be pushed to replace it with another brand. (Apple) I am devistatated that the Galaxy Active5 does not work this way as it looks like the perfict candidate to replace my old one with up to date features and will just have to do with my old one as I have no plan to change the way i use my tab as a phone because I have issues with my sight.
Hello, great video and I also just bought the Galaxy Tab Active 5 from Amazon Italy. I wanted to confirm to you that the "international" (SM-X306B) Tab Active 5 does work with my American T-Mobile sim card. I'm an American living in Italy and carry two smartphones, one with American sim and the other with Italian sim card. The reason why I still keep my American phone is because I travel back to New York quite often, and did not want to lose my original phone number and plan. Everything works to include dialing out and receiving calls. Installing and setting up the sim card was too easy! I also use a bluetooth earpiece, which is crystal clear. Also in case you didn't know, there is a slot in the lower right part of the outer case that you can install a lanyard. I can definitely tell you that I love this tablet! I hope this helps! CHEERS!
Thanks for sharing. Great job! The roof on your trailer would make a great place for a 100w flexible solar panel. I have rescued two similar trailers and plan on making a fishing trailer this winter. I will be using some of your wonderful ideas in my build. 😁👍

Did you try using it in landscape mode with polarised sunglasses? You can't see the screen which severely limits its use outdoors. I am going back to my 3. What the hell was Samsung thinking?
@@andrewstorrie5322 actually yes! I totally forgot about that. Good mention.
Great review, but here in the Netherlands the Active 5 works fine as a phone. However for that purpose I would use it sporadically. Too much to hold. I use it for data. Make a hotspot of my phone S23 and get on the street what I need. 😊
@hyfija absolutely. Yes the issue is limited to America and results from a deal between the American carriers and Samsung. Capitalism left unchecked on this side of the pond unfortunately. Yet another reason to live in the Netherlands! I'm super jealous of your bicycle infrastructure 😎
Yes it is a US thing . The phones/Tablets that are listed as international work just fine. I had the older 8.4 S pro SM 705 model and it worked quite well as a phone in till it just the other day after six years quit working right all together. I was trying to find a new international model that as long as it uses EDGE protocol T-Mobile cell serves will work on a unlocked phone. So now I need to figure out what the actual whole SN# is as apposed to just "Galaxy Tab Active 5 - 5G LTE" there should be something like my old ones Model number like "SM T705C" if you could tell me the model # on yours it would be helpful.
@larzakalazerath6655 I have returned mine, but I believe my model (US) was SM-x308a. The intl model as I understand it is SM-x306b. If you end up trying it please do update us as to your success or failure- and thanks!
@@make.and.believe thanks for the response. I did an hour or two of more looking and yes the B at the end does designate international version. For us in the US it makes it about 200 more. Why did you return yours? Did find something you like better? I really like the ruggedness that they are advertising it as I ride a motorcycle a lot so the IP67 rating would be a great upgrade over my old 8.4 pro.
@larzakalazerath6655 absolutely- I do the same with my electric motorcycle aka chopper ebike. It's my dashboard and it's perfection. I returned the 5 because I have the 3 and it wasn't worth the upgrade in my view. The 3 is still my daily driver. Much love!
Thank you... We have the same plan. Use this as a phone... But since it does not work ... Goodbye Samsung 👍👍

@itisnotwhatitisnot sorry not as of yet but I will make sure to post if someone confirms. In fact, if someone confirms I will buy it and try it and make a follow up vid.
Has anyone tried buying/importing one from the UK to the US to see if it would work on our cellular networks since they are already unlocked?
Yes sir. I do not own a 5 cuz I seen reviews where it’s head to head with the 4 and 3 and the 4 and 3 always seems faster then the 5 when it comes to running multiple apps… but I can speak on the 3. Cuz again I have a data only plan on the 3 and I paired it with my s24 ultra via the calls and text on other devices and it works fine.. as long as you make sure that you switch it to connect via WiFi and cellular service on the phone you paired it to and every call and text I get o. My main phone number that is my cell I get on my tablet even when I leave my cell at home and take only the tablet with me… also can make calls and text out to any number including the iPhones. Try that it that way.. cuz I to tried the same thing to use i the tablet as a dedicated phone but when I talked to Samsung the only way is to pair it to another Samsung device that’s a cell phone. Does not matter the model or how old it is as long as the cell supports text n calls on other devices… they said that’s just how Samsung made it in the U.S., I am guessing so people can buy their phones as well and not just a table. But in other countries I seen it work as a phamblet with out pairing it to Samsung. Sucks I know… but try it that way , see if you get the same results as the 3, if u need any help more then happy to advise.

So I have the tab active 3 connected to my samsung s 24 ultra. And I can make and recueve calls and text to all carriles over the calls and text on other devixes. I have a data sim card only o. My tablet and I leave my phone at home and take my tablet with me when I out and about and I am able to make and receive calls on my tablet with the main number I have on my phone... u just have to make sure that u choose wifi and cell data on the phone side and that's it good to go...
Interesting. I also have the Tab Active 3 but the wifi only version, and it works via the call & text on other devices feature to make calls via the phone's #, but only when the tablet is on the same wifi network as the phone (or using the phone's mobile hotspot). The phone I'm using is the S22 Ultra. So it would seem that if your tablet has the data sim, it doesn't need to be on the same wifi as the phone to make and receive calls. Very interesting. That's something I didn't try with the 5, and now I'm curious. If anyone out there has the 5 with the data sim in the States can you test this and let us know?
where do you get a spare battery for it. i do like the fact you can run it without a battery
I can't source a spare battery for the Tab Active 5, but here is where I got the spare for the Tab Active 3: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09P8TJ2BM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Note - the one for the 3 is not compatible with the 5. Also note - the batteries for the Samsung Galaxy S5 are not the same as for the Tab Active 5. If Samsung is smart they should have a batter for the Active 5 out soon - but I haven't seen one as of yet...
Yeah bro Verizon intentionally leaves phone features out of recognized tablet IMEIs in their provisioning systems to prevent people from adding a tablet line for 30 dollars a month on their accounts (business accounts in particular) and having phone calling features billed at the cheaper price. It prevents gaming of the billing system. Once the phone number is on the tablet, the end user would call Verizon and disconnect the newly generated tablet number....and BAM!!....phablet for Hella cheap! Samsung's native dialer on tablets do not connect to Verizon's network because Verizon intentionally blocks out the key calling features that allow that SIM to connect to the calling portion of the network on a tablet IMEI's native dialer. I know this for a fact, as I worked for Verizon for 13 years
I might be upgradin g from tab active2 to tab active5 in 18 days
8 inch tablets are already slim pickings LTE or 5G versions are even fewer but are out there (I just bought the Doogee T20 mini) Add in the requirement for physical buttons and I think you might be out of luck. You might have to decide on what is more important and pick 2 of the 3,
I returned this stupid thing because, well.... If you can show me where the hell a replacement battery can be aquired I DARE you to show me.
@stevesutton772 Hi! Fantastic point. I was able to easily source and acquire a replacement (or in my use case, 2nd/additional) battery for the Tab Active 3, but also could not source one for the Tab Active 5. Compounding the problem, the battery for the 3 is not compatible with the 5. Backwards compatibility is an important concept that is apparently lost on Samsung. Consumers want to be able to stay within the same product line and utilize already purchased peripherals. I use two batteries consistently with my Avtive 3 - especially when travellings and when on long bike rides. The option to open the unit up and pop in a fresh battery for double the longevity is a major selling point. Not sure why this wasn't considered foe the Active5. Big missed opportunity for sure.
Buy yourself a power brick and quit bitching.
Beuteful
My old but venerable Samsung S10 has 8 gigs of ram. How much RAM does this tablet have?
@markmoreno7295 the tab active 3 has 4gb of RAM, and you can enable RAM plus feature for an additional 4gb of virtual RAM giving you 8gb total. For the tab active 5, if you buy the 128gb version you get 6gb of RAM, if you buy the 256gb version you get 8gb, and you can also enable RAM plus for an additional 4gb virtual RAM, so with the high end 5 you could rock 12gb. I hope this helps!
@@make.and.believe yes it does help, and it is great news. I have an iPad mini but I don't like the ecosystem nor the apple ID. I don't like the absence of battery changes. So I am looking for alternatives. I only wish this new Samsung had an oled screen like my S10. That would cinch it. I also don't like the way apple organizes photo files. But the one great thing about Apple is the language capability such as when switching back and forth between Japanese and English. Maybe, as a bonus, this tablet has language?
@markmoreno7295 yes indeed! You can add additional languages and switch pretty easily. Once added to switch you just tap on what language you want in the settings. Here is a good instruction vid for you: Https://ruclips.net/video/rtLfepH57Dk/видео.html
Thank you for the review. A suggestion. On a 50 minutes video, timestamps would be appreciated.
I'll be sticking to my Active 3 and giving the 5 a miss until Samsung comes up with a substantially better tablet. I'm on my 2nd Active 3 after dropping my first one under my ride on mower while mowing my backyard...ha ha, it wasn't rugged enough for that mishap. Whoops !
I agree
Did you noticed any big difference performance wise between Active 3 and 5? I am on the fence whether I should get Active 3 or 5, 100 euros difference
@techbuyer yes, the 5 was definitely faster. For me it came down to the LTE version sold in the states not making calls, so I returned my 5 and a, M still very satisfied with the 3 wifi version as my daily driver. But it sounds like you are in Europe and the EU mode, shouldn't have that restriction. In your shoes I would probably go with the 5. Let us know what you choose and good luck!
@@techbuyer the X306b model is apparently the one that can make calls according to others here in the chat, I hope this helps!
@make.and.believe Thanks. It helps a ton. Apart from that, what you have commented about taskbar on the 5 is one of those little things that drags me more toward A5.
Is the frame aluminum or stainless steel?
@janicefraser32 stainless- which while heavier makes it durable and cargo worthy. 😎
Electric bikes suck scheisse as do EVs (Exploding Vehicles).
Disclaimer: for those in the back, AVOID THIS TABLET. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST OVERPRICED PRODUCTS I HAVE COME ACROSS AND IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME UPGRADING TO THE ACTIVE 5 FROM THE ACTIVE 3. Heyo just a heads up bro, after digging the comments section to address one comment under my own review, I cannot recommend this tablet anymore and I will say that you dodged a major bullet wjth the X308U model. If youre willing to import a X306B model while not having any US warranty, then I would suggest doing so. But anyway, good on you for avoiding this tablet and shame on Samsung for cutting corners here. I am now heavily regretting purchasing this tablet and selling my Active 3 a week ago. This tablet isn't worth it anymore.
I received my Tab Active 5 two days ago and went through the same ordeal. I'm still considering returning it, but I have found a carrier specific work around that i may be able to live with. T-mobile has an app similar Google Voice, that allows you to make and receive calls and texts, using your number, to any device via the app. Although I feel that I invested too much money into this device to not have it work the way I expected, It seems to be my best option for the moment. Apparently just another example of a company trying to maximize profits at the customer's expense.
good video, thanks for sharing! i am able to pop out my Simm card from my fold 5 and use it in my duo or in my tab6 lte version and also my ipad pro12" lte version.. you need a tablet which has 'LTE" and wifi.. they are seperate antenaes.. lte = cellphone wifi = modem in your home anyways it sounds like a settings issue so you needed tech support not sales,.. and if you did contact tech support then you need to have the issue escalated anyways it already exists and we have been using them for years and years (the tablet phone) 48:53 "connecting it to a phone" = paying for a cellphone service which gives you a Simm card which you then place into the tablet to be able to use the lte antennae for the cellphone towers to work with the tablet my issue: the fold 3 broke within 12 months (the folding screen protector peeling off) the fold 4 broke within 13 months ( the inner folding screen became intermittent, turning off whenever and back on whenever it wanted ) the fold 5 (today, now.. i suspect i have less than 5 months b4 it breaks) so my interest is getting rid of the folding part (the part which breaks) and therefore replacing the fold with an 8 inch lte tablet. ill probably simply go back to the note series non- folding phones which never broke for me. All this to avoid feeling forced to trade in the fold for the new year model before last year's model breaks. which is what i have done the last 3 years.
Hello - I spent 49 minutes of my life watching your review - While i did like the unboxing and basic features section - I think you need to better educate yourself on how to make a device your own (regardless of form factor) - I am on the fence as to whether or not to take the plunge as Samsung devices come at a premium price - I have always been a latest greatest device guy - (last one being the Z fold) but when it drops and cost more than half the price of the device to replace the screen only - It becomes a no go for me - This is not meant to be critical of your review - I enjoyed it very much - But - I disagree with your overall assessment - Study the OSI model and try to understand what any device does when it has a data connection - I spent many years at IBM as a senior consultant and can say without question that every data connection can be "massaged"
Hi! Thanks for your feedback. I totally agree with you on the price challenge. The folding phones are an especially difficult investment in my view due to the inevitable crease issues. I'm not sure what more research I could have done prior to purchase though, as I called Samsung business to verify the devices ability to make calls using LTE sim before I ordered the tablet, only to find that this wasn't indeed the case. Are you implying that there is a way to make the tablet do this? Is that what you mean by massaging? I would be curious to learn how if so. I was able to make calls using Google Voice and Teams, however I was unable to call or receive calls using the SIM's cellular plan. I was also unable to install (even via sideload) alternative direct dialing apps like Google phone which should have enabled this capability. I've heard here in the comments that there is an international model.of the tab active 5 that does not have this limitation - and indeed Samsung does sell an international model but not directly in the US. One would need to get it from a 3rd party seller which can get sketchy. Also, I haven't yet heard reports of the international model working with American service providers. When I finally got someone from Samsung to admit that the limitation was intentional in order to keep people buying phones the representative also noted that the limitation was in place not only as a software control, but as an agreement with the carriers. He mentioned AT&T and Verizon specifically, and noted that in the fine print of the Samsung website that even the 'call and text on other devices' feature won't work for these carriers because they don't want users to have the ability to make and receive calls from devices other than phones. Since this vid I have upgraded my phone and I can verify that this last part isn't true. The call and text on other devices feature does work on AT&T in California using my tab active 3 (wifi version - no sim). So the guy might have been mistaken or lying - not sure. Anyway thanks again for your feedback. I would love for this to work and would definitely be interested in learning if you have a method you can demonstrate or knowledge on something I've missed. Much love!
Bloke, top vid. A couple of things. An absolutely well articulated, informative and free of unnecessary fluff vid. Firstly, lucky man, hot wife. Secondly, great short-cuts and tips for us non-Android flogs. Lastly, I too bought this Phablet for calls and am awaiting delivery. If SS has FUA with this limitation, I will boycott all tech companies and revert to Morse code until they sort this shite out. Otherwise, top job fella and go the Raiders.
