Jemima Bourne

Hi, I'm Jem. I'm a singer-songwriter from Tasmania, Australia. You'll find some of my original music on here and also a few cover songs. I hope you enjoy. :-)
Laying it Down - original song
Laying it Down is a song I wrote after a heartbreak when I realised that letting go of a certain person (and the love and hope) felt so wrong and unnatural... and yet, at the same time, I realised it was very natural in the way of seasons which change, and in the way of autumn and how it lets the past fall away... I realised that maybe it was actually completely natural... in the way of a cruel winter (I currently live in Tasmania 😜). I looked around me, at nature, and saw how it doesn't fight the changes but flows with them gracefully. I tried to emulate that grace in my heart.
Even the moon waxes and wanes. The tides rise and fall. These days, I like to think I flow more easily with the...

"Lucidity," an original poem
Просмотров 151Месяц назад
Hey hey! Most of you may know me as a songwriter, but did you know that many of my songs started out as poems? Where songs can be beautiful, poetry can be brutal, and by that, I mean brutally honest. This is "Lucidity," and I wrote it as a young thing who was tired of everyone around me making strange and unaligned decisions simply on the basis of being in 'love'... an invisible force that I ha...

I miss you (original song in the making)

I wrote this short poem a while back after a friend passed away. Tonight, I thought I'd put a little tune to it. If you're missing someone dear, I hope this fragment of a song finds you and brings you a breath of comfort. 💓 I wasn't expecting to miss you like this My world's getting smaller, and I'm closing my fist And trying to hold on to what I have left Yet I don't deserve to feel this beref...
Love the Ones You Love by Jemima Bourne (original song)

I wrote this song a few months ago when a dear friend and fellow musician, Scott Wells, passed away. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and if you knew Scott and have found your way to this video, I hope you find comfort in listening to it. Hey lovely subscribers, I haven't posted a song on here in about 6 weeks... time really does fly! Actually, that/time happens to be the theme of this song I wrote called "Great Expectations". Normally I would take the 'time' to get the tripod out and pay a little more attention to the video backdrop and wash my hair and all those good things, but today I felt like recording this song and there ...

Wild Things by Jemima Bourne and Nudge Blacklock (original song)

"Wild Things" written by Jemima Bourne and Nudge Blacklock. Artwork by Nudge Blacklock. This is live recording taken during a recent gig. I added some harmonies afterwards to the song's outro, but I'm still working out how to use my video editing program and thinking about using a more advanced one. Unfortunately this means that the harmony audio isn't as in sync with the original audio as I'd ...
Learning a song that's out of my range - Biblical by Calum Scott Cover

This year I'm pushing myself to move out of my comfort zone and grow, both musically as well as technically. I'm looking to invest in a better camera, I plan on improving sound quality, and I hope to record my music more professionally. I've always liked acoustic music though, so these videos won't stop, but I do hope there will be a noticeable improvement in the future. In the meantime, here's...

Have you ever walked away from something or someone, known it was the right thing to do, been certain that you made the right choice... even though every cell of your body was screaming at you? And did you wonder if you were betraying your heart by leaving, wonder, also, if you'd be betraying it more by staying? It was wrong either way, all you wanted was for one thing to be right. Still, someh...

Hello Jemima! I just stumbled upon your channel. This is an amazing song both lyrics and melody. The idea behind this song is fantastic! Your playing and voice are sensational! I really enjoy coming across other singer-songwriters such as yourself here on RUclips. Writing a song is very therapeutic and rewarding right🙂 Awesome song! I have subbed to you #123 and look forward to more. Have a wonderful day/night😎
All your songs are so beautiful, and I hope to hear some more live again sometime. ツ

Wonderful poem Jemima ❤😊
@curtisbrown3847 Thank you, Curtis. 😁 So glad you enjoyed it.
Wow, beautiful! I even got goosebumps on some parts. I always wondered how it is on the other side because as long as I've known myself, I've always been in love (and been making bad decisions lol). Everyone starts differently, learns differently, and that is so magical. I wonder what lessons did you get with being and living this way. 🦋 For me, the biggest lesson was, is and will be - how to get back to myself & how to connect with others while being present, grounded and wise.
@daniemotioninsound Yes, in the absence of love, I think learning how to connect with people on other levels is really important. We always have choices, we can either rage that our life doesn't look the way we expect it to and doesn't look the way other people's lives do, or we can treat everything in life as a gift and an opportunity... including solitude and singleness. I agree that getting to know oneself is such a vital aspect of the path. Many people struggle with their own company, so much so that solitude is very difficult to bear. I tend to love solitude and find the magic in it, and I wrote a poem about that, too. I think I'll share that one next. 😁 Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience! ❤️🌻
Our accent is a beautiful dramatic voice for reading. How do you feel about love since being on the other side of it? Is there possibly a sequel?
@Boopadoop Are you a fellow Aussie? 😃 Yes, I'll be sharing more poems. So, a sequel is definitely on the horizon. 😁
@@jemimabourne West Aussie born and raised 😁 looking forward to more poetry for sure. Hearing stories told in Australian accents just feels like home
Run to the Ocean! When you throw caution to the wind and chance a life of freedom, the worst can happen is that you’ll fail in the name of happiness… it’s worth it; shore saved my life… Beautiful as always; but a missed opportunity to prank us by squawking like a seagull for five minutes. 😂 Keep it up 🤙
@@Boopadoop Haha! Such a missed opportunity! 🤣 I like that... fail in the name of happiness... because what is success anyway? Maybe failure is just an illusion, a fear that keeps us striving instead of truly living.
@@jemimabourne what’s the happiness that you’re chasing
That's beautiful and says all the right things 🙌😮😊

Lyrics ⏬️ I'd have gone anywhere for you Anywhere you asked me to Even into the bowels of hell If you walked into fire I'd have gone there as well I would have taken you to places too I was poised and ready, waiting on you I offered you heaven, a place to rest Then you gave me those empty promises And I realised I'd gone to hell for you But you were nowhere to be found...
Beautiful song and tribute to your friend. 👏👏🎸🎸❤❤
Thank you. ❤️😊

Thanks so much! 😁🤗
I felt the emotion is this one... A beauitful way of releasing. 🙏
Thanks Amber! ❤️ I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, songwriting (much like journaling) is very healing. 😊
A little unlucky in love aren’t you mate?
🤣🤣🤣 I figure if I can write a song about the things that happen in life, even if they had a negative outcome, then at least I got a song out of it. In that way, experiences (both positive and negative) can be gifts. It is especially meaningful to me when other people relate to my music, find comfort or healing in it, or just feel less alone. 🫂
@@jemimabourne those are wise words and a beautiful sentiment. Still sending a virtual hug though because I remember that feeling and that’s what I needed. Keep singing your magic, they’re wonderful songs
@@Boopadoop Thanks for the hug! 😁🫂
Magnífica composición e interpretación, me ha gustado mucho Jemima, enhorabuena desde Madrid y gracias por compartir tu trabajo, like 10

Oooh, I love the chord progression, your comforting voice and the topic. I've been wanting to write about this topic for a long time, but there was no inspiration so I'm glad you wrote about this. 🥹 I can relate so much with trying to find myself guilty for all the things - did I say too much, too little, the wrong thing, at the wrong time, blabla... But if someone leaves when you share a part of yourself, there was no belonging in the first place. This became my mantra... And also it helped when my therapist said that those people have narcissistic tendencies and are actually terrified of closeness. If I feel guilty, but I didn't actually do anything to them, and they get angry or leave... Then it's them and it's probably better for me that they left. Rejection is divine protection. Aaaah!! So hard when you have abandonment wounds. 😅 But with time it got easier... ❤️🩹❤️🩹
Yes! There is so much truth to everything you said! ❤️ Rejection is protection! 💯 🤩
Wow great song and songwriting always😮❤😊

I love this!! I love Nudge's paintings and didgeridoo playing. It sounds like it's going to be a wholesome and very meaningful collaboration. I love the song, and the message of freedom and hope! ☁️🤍☁️ Can't wait to hear the new version as well!
I don't know if this information will be useful to you, but I usually detach the audio from the video (I use online converter from mp4 to wav or mp3) and then edit only the audio in the program for music production. There I can add other vocals and instruments as much as I like and it's easier to sync them all because it's an advanced program. I use Adobe Audition, but there are others like FL studio... Or, I heard Cakewalk is now a free program. Audacity is also free, I used it when I began mixing. Then I go to the video editing program, to the same video I detached audio from, and add that new audio (and also I silence the video because now I have a whole song in the new audio). That way you don't have to bother with doing it in the simple video edit program, but yes, you still need to learn how to use the program for music production. But the basics are simple, they are not so complicated. This is of course if you would like to still use a simple video edit program and not get an advanced one because you can do a lot in the simple one (I use Microsoft Clipchamp). 😁 I don't know if I made any sense to you, but maybe it will help. Good luck on your journey! 🤍
Thanks Dani, Yes, I can't wait to hear the song all put together. There are some very talented musicians who will have a jam on it. So that will be pretty special. 😁
@@jemimabourne 😍😍😍
@daniemotioninsound Thanks for the tips! There's so much to learn, isn't there? 😆 I've been using Microsoft Clipchamp, too. Though I found it difficult to get the audio to sync perfectly, hence the lag. I may try a more advanced program next time. 😊
@@jemimabourne You're welcome! I hope it will be helpful in some way. And yes, there's so much to learn... 🥵 I used to procrastinate before because I was just paralyzed by the magnitude of it all, but when I decided to go step by step it was actually ok and pleasurable. Also, syncing gets better with time when your ears adjust to that task. It doesn't matter how good your musical ear is, this is like a whole another dimension and it takes practice. Of course it's easier in an advanced program because you can be more precise, simpler programs are a pain in the neck for that. 😂
Awesome ⭐
Thanks Connan. 😁
