Hi..love the video and all the great advise. Thankyou!! I am a beginner sewer that wants to sell tote bags at my 1st craft fair in october. Is it ok to tell people I'm a newbie to sewing and craft fairs??
Thank you! Yes it’s definitely okay to mention it. Especially if that gives you an ice breaker for starting little chats with the shoppers who approach your booth. Good luck to you and have fun!
great tips! thank you

Try to figure out how to unload the displays and products with as few trips as possible. Hand trucks, carts, wagons, have different pros and cons when transporting things. If one display object (like the pedestals) takes extra time to haul, set up, or special care, is it worth it for a same day set up and show? Bubble mailers work great to quickly package flatter fragile items within a box or tote. Consider packing your wares in fine China or Christmas ornament containers. The first things out of the car should be the first things to set up (displays before products). Use storage containers that nest inside each other. If you can stash it under the table instead of taking empty containers back and forth to the car, you'll save a lot of time. Study how other vendors load in and out of shows.
A++ comment! Thank you so much for adding to the discussion with some helpful tips!
Thank you John. I believe I have listened to 75% 0f your videos in the last 3 months. You may have mentioned this very very important information that I missed. I listened to a Craft Fair Vending listing the top things to know when signing up for a venue/festival. KNOW the foot traffic at each event. I just found out that the September Festival I signed up normally has foot traffic of 5,000. Then second show is in October with foot traffic of 11,000. I had to cancel the second due to not having that much product made for back to back festivals. This is such valuable info to know.
That’s definitely a great tip. Never want to put yourself in a position where you’re sold out only halfway into an event.
First time viewer. Have my first craft fair ever in October, super nervous but great tips!!
Welcome! Be sure to check out these two videos: 101 Craft Fair Tips for Vendors and also Craft Fairs vs Social Anxiety. Both of those are great for first-time vendors. You got this!!
Thank you so so much! I'm vending for the time and this was perfect.
You’re welcome! Glad it helped! Good luck at the show and have fun! 😃
Your booth is beautiful!! I hear what you're saying about putting up the side wall to have a solid background, however it's very hot inside a closed-in booth. Any suggestions?
Balancing act for a comfortable customer experience (keeping the inside relatively cool) and having a good, distraction free backdrop to improve visual experience. It’s a tough call. Use the side walls on days where it won’t be roasting and try without em on toasty days.
This was super helpful, thank you! I have a small handmade bath and body care business and am gearing up for some fall craft fairs starting next month, so this was perfectly timed!
Glad to hear it and good luck at the upcoming shows! You got this!
@@howtocraftfair Thank you!! ♥️

Thank you! Excellent tips, all 101 of them!
Appreciate it very much! 😃

Do you need a license to run the gumball machine lottery?
Excellent question! I would research this for your specific state/area, but where I live, you do not need a license for that: datcp.wi.gov/Pages/Programs_Services/VendingMachines.aspx
Smoking isn't just keeping other shoppers away. For those of us with asthma, it can be life-threatening. Even at winter shows, I have to take a fan with me to try to keep smoke/vaping fumes away from my face.
I agree with some of what others have said about “best” things. However, while I agree about the absolute necessity of advertising, I have a real problem with organizers who misrepresent things about their fair or downright lie about things. Integrity right down the tubes!
I don't mind negotiating with a customer. Within limits. I don't have anything that is similar to other vendors.
New subscriber! Fantastic how-to videos full of great advice! 😎👏👏👏 Thank you so much! About to launch my new small candles/aromatics business in a few weeks so your sound advice is super appreciated! So many items to acquire to have a great set up at Farmers market events! Worth it though when it can help increase sales.😅
Thanks for taking the time to comment and subscribing! I appreciate it! Yeah there’s a bit of an investment for sure but try not to get overwhelmed by up front costs. If it feels like it’s becoming too much, then rock what you’ve got and focus on the basics. Comfort with talking to customers, taking notes throughout the day as you think of good ideas. Don’t rely on memory. Literally jot it down someplace to reflect on after the show cause the day will be a whirlwind and it’s easy to forget good ideas you’ve had throughout the day. You got this! Have fun with it! 😃💪👏
Thank you John. Great info to know.
You’re welcome - glad you enjoyed it!
Licensed and trademarked characters as gifts, fine. For profit? Definitely not. I attend conventions that explicitly say things like ' No unlicensed depictions of characters appearing in third parties' movies, TV shows, books, sound recordings, still images sculptures or any other media.' They have the right to remove those products and you might even be asked to leave. Subsequently, you might not be invited back. I've also heard of some comic cons having representatives of companies wandering around issuing warnings to vendors that have their companies branding. So, it's a definite no-go territory.
Great comment & insight. Thanks for taking the time to share! 😃
Awesome! Thank you! #howtocraftfair
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for dropping the comment! 😃
This was super helpful, thanks so much!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Great tips - this might not work for all vendors. But we ha save started putting out seasonal items all the time. Christmas and Halloween has been selling more than other items. Again it might depend on what you sell.
Thats a good idea and another way to think outside the box.
Excited for this one, I only do fall pop up shops. When my schedule permits I will do them year around.
Hope it proves to be helpful! 😃
Thanks so much! This year I’ve signed up for shows as early as end of October. Last year I was focused on Xmas even for early Nov shows. I do need to see if I have some forest green tablecloths (probably do). They could serve for my Dec shows too. Maybe I’ll get a fabric banner made too. My twinkle lights are white so that works for any season.
Awesome video. Your tips are invaluable to vendors. Thank you for teaching us how to be the best vendors we can be.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😃
Thank you!!
You’re welcome! 😃

I agree with this assessment. I didn't even notice the inconsistency with the signage colours, but the green fabric at the front corner was really throwing me off. I love the logo and colours! I agree with the tent top colour - the blue is sort of making the tent look closed off. I see a completely unused tent wall. You might think that wall is useless but if there are people in your tent, they'll be able to see anything that's displayed there. Maybe a minor thing, but I'd shore up that 'L' in the table and bring the side table forward to have it lined up with the front table. I agree that you're pushing the edge of having to get a double tent space. You look way too crowded in back with practically no visibility for people shopping. If your boyfriend joins you, DEFINITELY get a bigger space. In any event, it will allow you both to walk back and forth and help each other out unless you are just displaying his items. But still, you'll need more room. Another idea is to open the booth by putting your tables on either side of the tent with the grid wall centered in the back. This would totally depend on how much of an introvert you are because there really won't be anywhere to hide. You'd have to put your chair in the corner with maybe a small table to check out. But having it open will let people see everything when they enter the tent. That's IF they enter. Some people like to float on the outside. That's kind of a 'know your market' sort of thing. Granted, this comes from the perspective of market visitor, not someone that has actually had a booth so I can't pretend to know everything that's involved. In any case, really nice art and variety of items! Cheers!
Great comment! Appreciate all the ideas for the vendor :)
Thank you for the many great tips I've jotted down quite a few 👍👌
Excellent! Glad the video helped! 😃
#letsgrow I'm starting to consider setting up at craft fairs. Thanks for the valuable input.
Glad to hear it Gary! You can do it! 💪💪
Great point about packaging and ease of transport. Years ago I purchased some beautiful ceramic dishes from a vendor. He packaged up each item in newspaper, then put it in a paper grocery back. It was filled to the brim, and had no handle on the bag. I am a small person, so I put my arms around the middle it to walk the 1/2 mile to my car. Just as I started walking the items on the top sort of "floated out" and then popped out and landed on the ground and broke. I was very upset, as if he had provided a different style of bag (one with handles) or if I had brought my own bags (although I went to the faire to just "look" and had not planned to buy anything), so I went back to explain what happened. He felt sorry for me but didn't think he was responsible in any way. He did offer me a small discount and I purchased replacements for the ones that broke. Even so, it was a very sad situation in my mind and I still felt he should have done a better job on his packaging and anticipating what could have happened with the way he packaged the items, maybe even by putting it in two bags that I could have rolled the top of down to seal and grip them from the top instead of the middle of the bag.
Excellent comment and thank you for sharing. This could prove valuable to other shoppers and vendors as a good learning experience without having to go through the frustration you went through.
