Hi...I have been studying the creation process of comics, since I am a 3D generalist. Though I intend to use shaders to effect those 2D outlines and looks to my models and I can't draw..what do you think?

If it didn't open properly in clip studio it's because you have to follow those steps : 1. Make a new folder 2. Export as a (.obj) file which will divide it in two kind of file : the (.obj) and the (.mtl) one 3. From here you open the (.mtl) one with Notepad (Bloc-notes in french maybe it's not notepad in english) 4.At the end of all the text add : map_Kd (yourtexturefilename).jpg (or png) for each texture you have an exemple for one of my files: map_Kd 1000_F_337266750_M6cPlN1xajlIq0YSQzk643YJyAzCo0i0.jpg map_Kd hhhss.jpg map_Kd grasschanged01.jpg map_Kd texttestwoodblack.jpg map_Kd textzaa.jpg map_Kd woodd.jpg map_Kd woodlong.jpg It's better to put texture because flat colour will become weird if you activate the lighting in clip studio but if you don't activate it it's fine 5. save You can now open it in clip studio modeler then clip studio paint with no issues from the (.obj) file Activate the lighting and shadows from top left : View->shadows // View-> lighting And apply it in : Windows->Object Information Cons : you can't move objects individually like in an (.fbx) file but you most of the time don't need it with 3D backgrounds You can add one by one 3D objects that you can move from then If you want to see my results with this methode before trying it I put for free some 3D Assets in the Clip studio asset store for free again Search in the clip studio asset store Tavern / Bar / Restaurant 3D Free or Jail / prison 3D or Arena3D With my Crok-mitaine account Nice video

really need to learn this for a comic i've been thinking about making which has an entire mansion... i will draw on top but having the base to trace and simply color and shade will be super helfpful

Blender has features for exporting objects with outlines, and you can even control the thickness. There is also a way to generate anime-style trees. There are tutorials teaching how, on RUclips.

I'm glad you mentioned laziness because that's pretty much the only reason. At that point why even draw comics? Next thing you know there will be a software that does lighting, shading, color, and perspective. Oh wait....

i have a question, when you're creating a room or a house in blender... do you follow the standard sizes of the buildings, doors and other furniture like in archi/interior design/ engr? or you just basically randomly creating the house without having the measurements?

as much as I love blender I personally think that takes too long to learn if you only want to create 3D backgrounds I recommend sketchup pro

Laugh all you want... but I used to use The Sims 3 to make the houses of the characters in order to be constant and choose the right angles for the panels. Sadly that project was abandoned but someday I'll start over

I think a good way to not worry too much on stylistic consistency is by making the 3D model with pretty simple textures and using it as a guide instead of bringing it in straight. You can drag and drop but I feel it can end up looking a bit uncanny unless it's a full 3D comic or if the model is especially tailored. It takes a fair bit longer to draw over the model but the heavy lifting of perspective and continuity is already done by that point. Still a great workflow for speedy production tho
