Unboxing and First Impressions of Danner Boots!
Those are the Cristy Vibram sole clones, which are well known to be fast wearing due to their squish. So it's a trade off, want firmer and longer lasting soles or something that is more comfortable for less time? For arguably the best wear you'll look at probably the V100 lugs, but they are CHONKY. As for Danner? They left their legacy behind, it's all about profit now.
expecting bbs from wtg? no matter of aggression here. it’s the matter of atg and specifically for the mustache area you should hold the razor in a deep angle. i guess such this angle won’t work with henson in terms of the design
You not geting a close shave is on you. Turn that thing around and go from the bottom up. There is nothing wrong with razor or the holder.
What about the cut whisker extraction? I am lazy so I might go a day or two without shaving. Does this razor clog up with whiskers?
It actually clears super easily. That's one of my favorite parts that I forgot to mention. Thanks for reminding me!

Bonne ballade a toi. PS: après avoir chaussez des chaussures lourdes et des légères et basses par la suite, c'est quand même plus agréable, moins fatiguant et de marcher plus longtemps avec des chaussures legeres. Salut ! 🙋
Thank you for the comment! I agree with what you are saying for day to day walking and light hiking. For my especially flat feet if I am going to do a hike longer than a few miles on easy terrain, I have found I need an extremely stiff boot to be comfortable.
always has been
A good summary and I pretty much agree. However, you can buy brand new modern boots that match these with some improvements .For example Hanwag, a family run German business who have been making hiking boots for 100 years have some superb boots. Take a look at the Tatra GTX II's, leather on the outside but Goretex lined, these boots are superb and can last a lifetime (Because they can be re-soled by Hanwag, a service they offer). I had a pair of Hanwag Special Forces whilst I was in the military, I had them for 10 years and only threw them out because the soles wore out (I forgot about the sole replacement service), which was a big mistake, the boots themselves were still in incredible condition, and incredibly comfortable, lesson learned....
How accurate is the battery life on full power
"I did a thread repair on my Magura Break lever".... looked more like a _brake_ lever to me. But you did break it.
You didn’t get a close shave because you only shaved with the grain. No razor out there will give you a bbs unless you shave against the grain. Doesn’t matter how aggressive it is. You need a proper lather, good technique, and the right blades for your hair and skin type. Also, some razors you’ll find shave better ATG than others, it’s a matter of trial and error. I’ve tried all the hensons, and mild was my favorite one, paired with a feather blade. I get BBS, it shaves as close as any of the other aggressions with a feather blade and shaving against the grain.
They don’t makem like that anymore! Best option is to look into a custom boots maker like Nicks or Limmer, or even do a custom pair of Jim Green Razorbacks with a leather lasting board and midsole.
can personally vouch for the Razorbacks. Custom ones are obviously better but even the normal ones are great.
Reason 4 is always the most important lol. Drip is essential
Absolutely.
I request you stand on one leg, and cluck like a chicken.
What brand are these again? I couldn’t understand when u said the name lol.
They are Stellina boots!
@@Jaymarshands thank you very much and it’s a great video btw, keep at it and you’ll get better and better.
Thank you! I also have several other videos on these specific boots if you want to know more about them. Just search 'vintage boots' on my channel and they should come up.
@@Jaymarshands I think I will thx again
Love my Fabianos! So many reasons for heritage boots! Don’t forget the stiffness is great for snow fields and crampons. Thanks!
Can you buy these online, if so where?
There are many examples on Ebay. Just search ' 'PMS Stellina Hiking Boots' and your size.
i think they’re similar to danner boots, but there’s many many different heritage hiking boots, jim green, nicks, whites, russel moccasin, those all come to mind i suggest you look more into them
@@jermnotgerm4do you know what brand yours are?
@@sacredsam6046 if you’re asking what i wear, it’s a pair of jim green numzaans, with the lugged sole, they make a lot of other boots as well for very respectable prices.

THANK YOU for making this follow up video! Those are certainly getting a workout. I noticed the same thing about comfort with my vintage Vasque boots fro 1976. Extremely comfortable to wear and to walk in. I just bought a pair of Merrell MOAB 2 Ventilated hiking shoes (low) for walking my border collies. They are supposed to be like slippers on your feet. BS!!! My feet are killing me after only 2 hours of wear. Especially the balls of my feet. The leather on your boots finally absorbed all of that wax, and the color lightened up quite a bit. Not the scratched up areas, but the leather higher up on the vamp. It will be interesting to see how those scratches recover. Again...THANKS for this video. Enjoy your boots!!
I appreciate the comment! I have another hike this weekend that I am super excited about. I may even make a video on it.
Is yours mild or
Cut your nails lol
all the ropes seem like a hassle just free solo that xD
Nathaneal has before😭
I’ve looked at the Henson and the main thing for me that puts me off is you have to buy effectively 2 razors in my case the medium and the aggressive if you want a really close shave and they’re not cheap razors to buy. I currently use a Feather Artis club razor DX which requires patience and a different skill set if you don’t want to end up looking like a product from Sweeny Todd. I also use the Feather DE bamboo shaft infused with resin which is great for under the nose, I like to collect proper razors and change every so often. For me wet shaving is a nice way to relax and time to think and reflect. Top tip from my grandmother never use a cutthroat razor to shave if your in a bad mood - cheers nan 👍🏻🩸🩸
I had the same problem I changed razor blades much closer shave
Bro this is great im a V3 climber at best and seeing someone practicing everyday going through the journey is inspiring
Thank you
I'm currently also looking to up my game. Did you try different blades / technique? Also I wonder which electric razor you use(d)? Funny to see Chester at the end 😂
Also, as others said, blades do really matter. You can check out Henson's website where you can see the blade exposure range, with different blades: Mild: .0007" - .0014" [.018 - .036mm]
Learning how to maintain tension is honestly a big help. I'm also a begginer but cutting my feet less has helped eliviate my hands and arms
Def could work on some footwork drills on some easier climbs, using your feet and hips to create momentum will help you improve alot and will allow you to climb for longer each session.
Thank you!
I'm too old to climb. Stopped by to hit the like button. Waiting for the boot follow-up.
How old is too old to climb?
@@Whackin nearly 70. Still walking and hiking. When arthritis hits, you'll stop climbing too. No hand grip. No finger strength. Wait for it!!!
How's the framework holding up. I'm so excited to get mine
It's awesome. The battery life feels shorter than other laptops but other than that it's the perfect laptop. I might make a follow up video soon.
@@Jaymarshands Is that with or without the gpu
@BSingh-on4qr without. It will last a school day but I absolutely cannot miss a night of charging
@@Jaymarshands That's good for me
Mate if you want best shave you've ever had get Aylsworth Apex SS razor. I'm confident you'll be satisfied. I have had many razors and this is the best one yet mild feel, smooth, comfortable on your face, very efficient. 😉 To dispose blades cheap and safe use an empty can of coke.
If you have the time, I would really like to see how these boots look several months after oiling. Even a short with close ups would be good. THANK YOU!!!
I might make another video on them because I just did a big hike and I want to talk about it.
@@Jaymarshands Sounds good. Looking forward to viewing it. Thanks!
Your Stellinas lightened up since you oiled them. They turned out great.
Laces break. Whites leather laces lasted less than a year. Nicks heavy duty leather laces lasted 3 months of 1-2 times weekly casual wear. Nicks sent free replacement laces that have done much better. Laces are like tires or brake pads on your car. They are made to wear out. Fact of life. I paid under $300 for my White's Perry boots. Same sole, and it's wearing fast. Blame Vibram for that. Heavier leather and better construction than Danners. I guess the answer is to buy better next time.
You need to have +++ version.
No matter the shaver, it takes 2 sometimes 3 passes going down, up and against the grain. Don't knock Henson shavers for what he is saying. All the expert shavers on RUclips, geofatboy, ohio shaves and many others get baby smooth shaves with henson and other brands using proper techniques.
I rarely use mine. It's too light weight. Enjoying my Parker Solo Edge more than any of the other razors that I own.
The little bridge piece between the back module and the mainboard is called the “interposer”, you were close with “interpolator”!
Thank you!
These looked like they had a hint of red on them on their website. I might get me some
I love them so far. About to make another video of conditioning them so watch out for that!
i didn't think you would look like that
Thanks. Me neither.
bruh
How’s the dropper
It's ok. It seems to need a lot more attention than my PNW one did. However, once I pumped the cartridge up to 300 psi I did not have to grease it constantly any more!
I bought a pair of vintage 1976 Vasque hiking boots on ebay for $90. Similar to your Italian boots, but USA made by Red Wing. Entirely leather and heavy. No fiberboard. 360 degree Goodyear welted. I wore boots like them in high school and college in the 70s. These were dusty, but barely worn. Cleaned them up and they look like new. Laces are the original red and navy barber pole flat laces. I bought red flat laces to save the Vasque laces as they are no longer available anywhere. The laces are 72". Mine are still in the original roughout. I'm debating oiling them or not. I cleaned the leather with suede wash, and then treated them with Nik-Wax suede and nubuck protector. I'm nearly 70 y.o. but wearing those boots is like being back in high school!! THANKS for this video!
What a cool story! Thanks for sharing!
@@Jaymarshands Thanks! I enjoyed your 2 videos about these boots.
You don't recycle your blades wow they sell a recycling blade box on Amazon and you don't use a shaving bush with a good soap to lather up. I usually do two passes on my face and I get the best shave and close
They make 2 more aggressive models of the AL13, they are marked ++ and +++but you have to buy them from other razor companies such as ShaveNation, Henson does not sell them to the public. Don't ask me why they do that. You should also try other blades. RK blades are junk, much sharper/smoother blades out there.
Definitely try different blades, it makes a huge difference. I bought a medium after being disappointed with the mild, but tried Astra and Personna blades, and it gives me a really close shave. Also, need to do 2 passes, I do first with the grain, then second against the grain. It’s a real bummer Henson doesn’t sell just the plates. There’s no reason why they can’t sell all 3 heads and one handle so you can use the one that works best for you.
Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. You mean you tried the Astra and Personna on the medium? or the mild? 2 passes with which one? I've read someone saying the mild needs 3 passes for them, but medium does it in 2
@@felixbrown2677 I bought a mild first and used RK blades only, and wasn't happy with the results. I then bought a medium and got a bit better results with RK blades. I then bought both Astra and Personna blades and tried them in the mild version, and got good results with the Astra blades and the best results so far with the Personna. I have been using Personna blades in both Razors and use both of them whenever I feel like a change. I usually do two passes, and just a third for touch up on my neck only. Both razors seem to do fine with only 2 passes plus one extra for the neck for me so far.
RK blades are good for one to two shaves. Try a different blade first. I’ve had great success with the Gillette platinum blue blades. I own a Henson as well. The AL13 and the AL13 medium. The blade gap may be too mild for you. Consider the AL13 medium.
i wanted to like the henson (mild) tried and tried for months with it, and never had a great time. eventually sold it, and bought an aylsworth apex SS with both plus and standard plates.
And how is the Alythworth compared to Henson for you?
@@felixbrown2677 i sold the henson mild, it's garbage for my face. i do want to try the henson medium though. my rotation is karve overlander in brass apex SS in both stadnard and plus plate. karve overlander and apex standard are pretty similar, and both are fairly efficient with no irritation. apex plus plate is my go to usually when i got more than 2 days of growth. it's wildly efficient and smooth.
Three-pass or BBS shaves are nonsense. The purpose of a shave is to remove most of the excess hair growth. A completely smooth face means you have likely cut below the skin, and will experience bumps and/or ingrown hairs in a day or two.
Over hyped
