@@grayestrat Spending 18 hours on him for this run and about 40 hours on the fight in total I think I’m as close to mastering this boss as I’ll ever get (or want to get for that matter)

@SacredWalrus love fighting this boss. Been working on my +0 a little but man no aux is gonna be long as hell. Even upgraded weapon on ng+7 took 8 minutes.

@@grayestrat Are you doing level 1, +0, scadu 0 ng+7? If so that is crazy and best of luck on the fights either way. I love Bayle even on long fights and other than the fire hitboxes he is crazy well balanced for a dragon

@@SacredWalrus no I'm not doing ng7 at +0 just base ng like the others I've done. Might even resort to frost or something too

@@grayestrat That’s good, the ng+7 health and poise increases might be too much honestly. Also yeah using bleed or frost on the star fists would probably be good, and really any of the statuses except rot are good but not op so that would probably be the most fun way to do it

@@LompaGaming Thanks! Technically no damage, because I messed up the strafe on the grab that time and it counts as a hit, but doesn’t do damage. This is probably my hardest boss kill and my hardest non-reset run, but I’ve done a few other challenges I think are harder

@@madeline6951 I used gambit to get through the fissure and there aren’t any weapon arts that would help for the boss really so I just left it on there

@@FullMetalHeart_one Thanks! The +0 is made a lot easier by rot, frost, and bleed, because they do % based damage, but it is still pretty tough. Yeah I’ve been doing souls challenges since before Elden Ring released, but it definitely got me much more into challenges, and it’s been nice to see how many people are doing challenges for the first time with the dlc

@@SacredWalrus yeah, definetely. I actually started with the dlc, never thought it was that fun but it takes a lot of time :)

@@grayestrat Thanks! I still need to learn to punish him in the middle of Messmers assault on top of at the end, and to get more consistent with jumping the spins (using anything but star fists) but I have gotten very comfortable with this fight and it’s quite a bit of fun

Also, for some reason the upgraded weapon but no aux kill was a lot slower and tougher than this one, rot really is op

@@SacredWalrus absolute power (rot) And it's really hard to punish assault in the middle with star fists cuz the range is bad. With alabasters I was able to do 2 fully charged r2s during assault. One mid combo and one at the end. POWER.

@@LompaGaming Thanks! He’s super cinematic and well built up, but honestly I’m not a huge fan of the moveset. Nothing bad, just kinda underwhelming in my opinion

@@SacredWalrus I see what you mean. The fight can be very repetitive and slow at times

@@LompaGaming Considering he is very tanky the fight tends to drag when doing it with lower damage and other than a few occasional instances, most of his attacks are easy to dodge and don’t have much depth of learning to them. You can jump a few swings and strafe one or two moves but other than those few it’s pretty much just dodge at the right time a few times in a row. Also the fact that he staggers as quick as he does makes it feel like he never gets going. I certainly don’t dislike the boss but I tend to share my negative opinions on the boss because I think he is pretty overrated

@@rudde7918 Yeah, part of me wanted to run it back Hitless but I am doing this run to learn the bosses better, not to beef up how many challenges I can put in the title and I felt like I had a good understanding of the boss and didn’t need to reset over a stupid mistake

@@SacredWalrus Did I see it right, or did he do the attack where he dismounts and both of them charge at you twice, did he do that only once in this fight? For me it felt he always spammed it xD

@@rudde7918 I don’t remember how many times he did it but I know he did it at least once. That is definitely one of his harder attacks to dodge but once you figure it out it is one of his most punishable attacks so it tends to be one you hope to get on a challenge fight like this

@@SacredWalrus Yeah, in the end I think all of his attacks are "easy" to dodge, if you learn them right? Maybe the one where he summons the blue fire from behind you is the hardest.

@@rudde7918 Yeah, he is one of the easiest dlc bosses and maybe one of the easiest bosses overall, none of his attacks are that tough to dodge once you’ve seen them once or twice. I honestly think the attack that trips me up the most is the horse scream, just because the timing is so weird. The attack where he summons blue fire behind you is easy to dodge if you unlock and turn around, but I’ve seen people stay locked on and jump into him over the attack for a punish and doing it that way is definitely harder

@@grayestrat Thanks! Part of me wanted to restart after that hit from the charge but considering it was my first attempt after reloading the save file I just let it play out, with no expectation of victory

@@grayestrat I had done putrescent Knight right before this guy and I was stuck for a little while because I kept rolling wrong on the beginning of the big combo even though the timing is super easy, but the one time I actually kept going I got him down to like 10% and it was smooth sailing from there so I decided to just play on for this one too

Thanks! Also, I tend not to like throwing around “skill issue” but to people who think Gaius is terrible, it’s a skill issue. I can understand people who think he’s kinda boring or simple, but all of the Gaius hate is so unwarranted.

Thanks! I was surprised by how weak the tracking on the last hit of that combo is. I love how many ways you can dodge and punish that move and it looks really cool if you are only barely to the side of the hitbox of the swords

I decided to use the club for my upgraded weapon kills on this run because I love the hammer moveset but I wanted to save the hammer itself for the +0 kills where I would need it. I also saw that Lilaggy is doing club only level 1 scadu 0 so I wanted to do that as well lol

@@grayestrat Yeah, its moveset is amazing and it does insane stagger on top of solid damage. I only said club “only” because it means I can’t abuse even crazier weapons like antspur and star fists, but it’s not a downside at all

@@grayestrat I was sweating bullets at the end lol. This kill was the hardest of the run so far, at least in terms of time spent on it, but I did this kill before the club one and I had very little idea of his moveset so that was probably a lot of it. Honestly if the arena was significantly larger or lightning phase used the lightning more like the beams of light in radahns fight or the blood flame in mohgs instead of the random bullshit it’s this fight would be a goat level boss for me but as it stands I give him a middle to high a tier

@SacredWalrus it is broken for sure. I think that's why you can't use whetblades for rot and a very small number of weapons have rot on them.

@@grayestrat Yeah, if you could infuse any weapon with rot it would be easily the strongest infusion. I also have no idea why they let you infuse antspur with other statuses

@@grayestrat I mostly just fought it locked on because I’m terrible at moving the camera and fighting. I’d like to think I’m good at it in the slower games but anything Bloodborne or newer I am terrible at playing unlocked. I mostly like this boss a lot more now that I know how to deal with all of his attacks and how to identify his different bite combos, but my hatred for lightning phase has gotten much worse and I also really hate the size and shape of the arena.

@@grayestrat Honestly, I really like the fight and I wish I could say it was my favorite boss but he’s just got a bit too much crap for me to hold that opinion. Ifeel like his moveset is damn near perfect in all of its good attacks, with the minor exception of how hard it is to stagger him. For casual players I do think it is a bit too insane but for challenges he is so extremely fun, except for 2 really unfortunate things. The first and worst obviously being the cross slash, it sucks that you have to either use a specific tool and playstyle to avoid it, or forego punish windows and play awkwardly to be able to roll it to the side, and it brings the fight down a lot. The second issue isn’t nearly as bad but it still sucks, which is the gravity boulder thing combined with his follow up multi slams. For the most part it’s fine but if he does it far away or backs you into a corner with it you are just screwed and it’s a bit too inconsistent to be tolerable. Overall, he is a great boss and if the cross slash was removed and the boulder attack more consistent with walls and range, he might be my favorite boss in the game and the series, but these issues are big enough that he is probably sitting around the #3 or #4 spot for me in Elden Ring and probably at the bottom of my top 10 in the series, or just outside of it. Also Wing of Astel is so fun, Nebula kinda felt cheap because of how much damage it does but I didn’t want to put up with the cross slash and just gave in to using it, made the fight a bit too easy tbh

@SacredWalrus still much more generous than most give him. I've barely spent any time learning him but your words give me hope of liking him when I finally fight him more.

@@grayestrat Yeah, I know most people absolutely hate him, and I think it’s mostly because learning him is miserable, but once you have learned him he is incredible aside from the issues I talked about earlier. I think for most people the learning process is most of the fight and in that case I get why they hate him but for someone like me who goes back and fights him in many different challenges it is a really fun fight. I hope you come to enjoy him once you learn him as well, but that process is ridiculously punishing

@@grayestrat Honestly, I think, similarly to his quality, his difficulty is very different when you’re learning him vs once you know him. He has very few mix ups or things to watch out for. You have to playa round double slash but other than that everything he does is pretty predictable, and for Hitless Rellana is probably waaaaaay harder

@@grayestrat Thanks! This fight was super annoying because the torches range is so bad and I kept having to move to fight the right punish angle. You can see in the video I whiffed a few times but when I was first attempting this I would miss like every other hit. Also, I have no idea how this was so much faster than rl1 ng+7 run, maybe the frostbite and the staggers made a big difference?

@@SacredWalrus probably, I only had 2 staggers in 8 minutes 😅 and yeah I didn't think about the frostbite

@@grayestrat Torch only is pretty fun. I added Scadu 0 because torch only on its own isn’t that hard but it’s a pretty fun challenge combined with something else

I actually haven’t attempted it in a while, maybe a yearish, and since attempting it recently I got it on my fourth run, but in the past the biggest run killers were stormveil main gate, the second part with the explosive ballistas, the birds in Farum Azula, godskin duo and maliketh.

I also forgot about Morgott, he was a huge pain on these runs, super scary

@@grayestrat Thanks! I attempted this a while ago, maybe like a year back and I got kind of bored of it and even though I thought about it a lot I hadn’t attempted it since. Recently when I was trying to figure out which game to deathless next I realized that deathless runs feel pretty boring so I thought I’d give this a try and I had fun with it so I decided to keep it going and I actually got it in like four attempts. I’m probably going to look into other Hitless runs for the other souls games soon

I was surprised by how fast I got it, maybe it helped me to be calm and collected that I wasn’t expecting to get the run, and it also just helped that I was confident fighting all of the bosses since unlike last time I attempted this I know them very well. Right now I’m working on Hades Hitless, both because I want to play hades and because for that one I don’t have to learn a route and I can just start attempting it. After that I’m probably going to do sekiro bb or ds3, but I’m not sure on that one yet
