    Hi.. your video was very informative. I bought the Gaerne Dakar boots and checking the sole I see it is not really flat. I mean When I put it on a flat surface it wiggles a bit side to side and I believe it is because the sole has to different patterns and the join of those 2 patterns is right in the middle of the sole. Have you noticed that?

    • @brokenfixedpictures7638

      Hey no I cant say I noticed a side to side wiggle of the boot on a flat surface. I think when I used the term "flat" it was in relation to the other Forum boot that had a taller more narrow sole vs. the Gaerne which was flatter and wider.

    So I have Leatts that I stopped wearing because the hinge on the ankle started pressing into my ankle after 10 min of riding. This was a problem with alot of riders. I talked to Leatt about it and they said they did an update in 2023 to address that issue. Has anyone picked up new 5.5s in the last year or so? If you have how is the fit around the ankle after some time on the bike? Issue been solved?

      I'm lucky enough to have not taken any major hits. I think they would offer enough protection for a "glance" hit, but a direct rock hit would probably crack the casing. Just not as much. As they broke in a bit, the lower strap, at the point where you adjust it's length, created this terrible pressure point on the top of my foot. • @brokenfixedpictures7638
      @brokenfixedpictures7638 8 месяцев назад

      There are no dumb questions, my dude! There is a slight gain in performance, but yes mainly this is to adjust air/fuel mixture and throttle response when increasing airflow into the engine as well out with the exhaust. The previous owner added the exhaust and I was nervous the ratios were a bit off as I was getting a bit of pop on decel when off the throttle. So this module recalibrates those ratios on the fly as well as when I'm riding in different altitudes. Thanks good luck!

    • @brokenfixedpictures7638
      @brokenfixedpictures7638 10 месяцев назад

      I'll say that it took me longer because I really didnt have a video to watch and see how each component removes from itself and where to route the wiring. Maybe 3-4 hours total because I had a long period of time where I couldnt figure out why the harness wouldnt reach to the back of the bike and was trying different routing methods...haha The tank wasnt really that difficult but I would HIGHLY recommend doing it with an empty tank. I heard that on other videos and wanted to listen, but the time I found to do it I had more than a half of tank. Balancing the weight of the tank while trying to remove the hose from the pump was very risky/tricky. I was nervous trying not to break the top of the fuel pump off if I dropped the tank. The other thing that's tricky is just how many different connectors there are. Each one removes differently with a tab here. or a hook there. I hope the video helps people to skip that trial and error that I had. GOOD LUCK!

    • @brokenfixedpictures7638
      @brokenfixedpictures7638 11 месяцев назад

      I’ve never known “engine braking” to be something that can be adjusted. I’m guessing that you feel like the throttle is too “snatchy” when you let off? Like you feel a harsh surge instead of a smoother transition? If that’s what you’re talking about then I do believe it’s something that can be adjusted with tweaking the fuel delivery in the idle circuit. I used to be more of a carb guy so thats how I can relate in terminology. I particularly like a “snatchy” throttle when riding more technical terrain because I can utilize engine braking and maintain traction rather than needing to tap the brakes to slow down. Does that all make sense?

    • @2Petya
      @2Petya 11 месяцев назад

      @@brokenfixedpictures7638 yes, makes sense. When i rode enduro bikes, i wanted immediate throttle response as well. Easier to pull up the front going over a log and such. And never bothered about any engine braking then. However, i ride a tracer 7 now on the street. When leaning hard in corners, immediate snatch of power on off throttle can even be dangeorous. And sudden deceleration cos of engine braking in city makes me clutch like crazy. Modern bikes have a so called deceleration fuel cut. Meaning when on 0% throttle, it cuts injection totally. But you are right, that there is a 0% column on the fuel map. But not sure what is that, cos in the application for "RACING" module, there is another tab for adjusting engine braking, with one overall number. Was just wondering if the EVO could have a built in engine braking reduction, or not have that at all and not even disabling deceleration fuel cut

      I originally bought the EVO for changing the fueling to work with my aftermarket pipe. I also live in an area with varying elevation changes so I like the fact that the EVO is consistently monitoring the Air/Fuel Ratio and adjusting as necessary. I havent yet changed up my filter or modified the snorkel but there's a decent improvement in mid range acceleration and the throttle response is snappier. It has me cracking the throttle and winding out the gears on highway on ramps. It's addictive!

I currently have the Gaerne Fastback enduro boots for dirt riding but may be a tad bulky for touring on my GS. In your opinion, would the Garene's be alright for wearing "full-time", like around town or around camp and setting up camp (squatting, kneeling, collecting firewood, etc). The Forma's definitely seem like they would be due to the flexible sole, basically a heavy duty hiking boot is what it looks like. Thank you.

    I think your review is fair. I have a pair of the Forma Low Adventure boots. The chafing you refer to happened to me as well, but on the front of my leg. Once the boot broke in, though, that stopped. I've been very happy with the boots. I have found them very comfortable to walk in. I ride almost exclusively offroad. We do get off the bikes and hike a little. The waterproofing is great. I've stood in creeks where the toe box was completely submerged and never had a leak. I've even used these boots for snowmobiling, they worked great. From the research I did, I found that the taller boots are not an advantage unless they are a motocross style boot. The top is too floppy to add any real protection and they're just hotter in the warmer weather. I've had these boots for a few years now and I have no complaints. The Gaernes in this video do look like they'd offer more protection. Just my two cents.

    Great review, not long and drawn out. I had narrowed my decision down to the Gaerne G Dakar and the Sidi Adventure 2. I like everything about the Sidi but I don’t think it has enough lateral support just above the hinge. It’s design looks like it would be a lot more comfortable to walk in but I don’t plan on doing a lot of walking. My plan is to do a lot more off-road riding than on road.
