Box Yellow Cake Mix Bake Off!
In this episode, I decided to see if box cake mixes are as good as homemade cakes. I picked up 3 of the most popular brands: Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines and Pillsbury yellow cake mix. There is something to be said about the convenience that box cake mix offers. Based on the mixed raw cake batter, Betty Crocker seemed like it could be the most "homemade"/least artificial looking cake. Duncan Hines and Pillsbury were both on the runnier side and had more yellow color to the batter.
After baking, all 3 cakes had a very spongey texture with Betty Crocker tasting more "eggy" while Pillsbury leaned more towards the vanilla flavor. My ranking based on cake crumb/texture and taste are:
#1 - Pillsb...

Testing Out Café Du Monde's Beignet Mix!
Просмотров 75 тыс.3 года назад
In my recent trip to New Orleans, I had to make a stop over to Café Du Monde for my afternoon cafe au lait and beignets. In many of the gift shops I saw Café Du Monde's Beignet mix and thought I'd give it try! The box mix is VERY easy as you only add water to the mix plus flour to coat your surfaces when rolling out the dough. The dough mix will be very tacky so remember to flour your surface w...

Ingredients: 4 slices of bread (lightly toasted) 260g raw jumbo shrimp (deveined and shelled) - approx 15-16 pieces 2 tbs fresh cilantro ...

Crispy Vegetable Egg Rolls
Просмотров 4413 года назад
As we end the holiday season, I wanted to share a dish that is a staple at all of our family gatherings: crispy veggie egg rolls! These are not the same veggie egg rolls you find at a Chinese American restaurant since this recipe uses the Spring roll wrappers which are thin and crispy when fried. Also these egg rolls are accompanied by a homemade apple based sweet and sour sauce. Egg roll ingre...

Trader Joe's Pumpkin-palooza Taste Off!
J😊
Make them thinner
Cafe Beignet is also wonderful. I just returned from there.
Cafe beignet is so much better just being honest they’re beignet are bigger and more fluffy
I find it interesting that the box mix only requires 7 ounces of water since to make a single batch at the restaurant takes 128 oz of water, 192 oz of whole milk, 25 pounds of flour, or about 80 cups of flour and one special bag mix.
😊 Is this correct? did you work there?.
@@millzdeals I currently work at one on the north shore and yes those amounts are correct. Also be careful of the frozen au lait there is a lot of sugar.
Hey Alisa! I am super interested in pandan desserts, but it was so difficult to find videos in english, giving a descriptive information about making pandan agaragar! Thanks for sharing this video on youtube!! I'm living in Korea so it's hard to attain real pandan leaves, so I'm using pandan powder instead. Do you think using pandan powder would make a big difference?
I’m not familiar with pandan powder…would you mix that with water? I think as long as it dissolves in the water then it could be ok. Please let me know how it turns out!
What kind of flour and oil did you use? Thank you. Very helpful video. Can't wait to try.
Is 7 ounces one cup of water. South Africa
8oz is one cup water
I just patted it down with my hands. Worked well.
You did very good,. The only thing is the door is supposed to remain a little bit tacky that's the difference. It does need to be sticky
that is actually great info, cause I'm thinking it too sticky
I make the same beignets from scratch 😊
What electric skillet is that? Can I use any brand electric skillet?
Chill the dough for 15 min after mixing
Good idea!
It doesn’t taste the same as getting it from Cafe Du Monde…something is missing…it’s good though
Agreed. Definitely tastes better at the actual place.
Cafe du monde is amazing especially the coffee for a decent price highly recommend
I’ve read that if you stir the mix and water together more heavily, the beignets become chewier.
Can you freeze the dough?
That is an interesting idea. You can freeze and fry them when needed.
I saw something about mixing it for 10 mins and also letting it sit overnight
I went to cafe du monde this year in January and I loved it 😋 I wanna go back!
We didn’t care for the beignets at Cafe Du Monde. We found them super chewy and somewhat dense. The mix is better.
Chewy? You must have got a bad batch. I go there all the time and have never had a chewy beignet. Café Du Monde is amazing.
@@brodyhill5350 We went to the main location and to a satellite location and had the same opinion of both. Very overrated 🤷🏽♀️
Been like 30 years since I've been there but I just remember them being an average beignet. Nothing particularly outstanding or bad about them.
@lcanton next time go to Cafe Beignet on Canal Street. They are fantastically awesome and delicious. There is a line however so be patient. I just now returned from there. I tried beignets at other places...not the best. Cafe Beignet is the bomb!.....as stated by the young folks.
@@lcanton9146 Cafe Beignet on Canal Street is super fantastic!!! The best ever. The other places are mediocre.
Just found out have to let the dough rest alittle then its less sticky and more airy
They look like Chinese fried dough donuts
Did you use peanut oil?
No I used vegetable oil because that’s all I had but I bet peanut oil would make it more tastier
@aycewithalisa5852 the actual Cafe uses cottonseed oil. Might make a difference in the texture.
@@queensmove We use cottonseed oil so we don't burn the kitchen down. The oil has to be above 300 degrees Fahrenheit so we can cook the beignets in 90 seconds or less.
Thank you or the info! could you please share your recipe from scratch that you mentioned on the video? thank you
You have the most fantastic surface to work dough on, granit. - and you are using a tree board.
Aah yes you are right! Clearly didn’t think of that at the time. Thank you for watching ☺️
“That was pretty easy” and then we remember the two minutes of previous rolling and struggling.😅 that was just… Don’t worry about it.
Ha 😅🤣
Wow yummy 😂😂😂
They are pretty good , I make them for the grandkids a couple times a month
After hearing that ingredient list, I regret buying this unremarkable mix today. They look tasty, despite their ridiculously simple ingredients. Basically doughboys.
I really want to try some of this, both In savory & sweet,it sounds heavenly 💞🤩😘💋💯✴️🤟🌹
Savory would be good in a garlicky butter sauce! I’ll have to try that next time
I’m here because I managed to fail the box haha
That’s hilarious! But they really need to mention that the dough will be super sticky if there’s not enough flour on your surface!
i love benjetd (idk how to spell) but could never get them from anywhere but my house or a Cafe in biloxi ms where I live. the only places I can find that gives me enough power ded sugar
God bless all of you🤍
Thank you! 🌸
Nice sharing, I want to learn baking, you did great job. New friend here.
Thanks for watching! I will share a new baking recipe soon. 😊
Now I want some brignet
I love beignet. I miss Nola.
I miss Nola too!
Love the chop sticks with the beignets
This looks really good! I will definitely be making.
Yay let me know how it turns out!
I went last week and bought the mix as well
I fried them on the stove.
Nice. Got a box. What kind of fryer are you using?
I have the cuisinart mini deep fryer since it takes up less counter space!
I made these this morning using peanut oil in a large Le Creuset pot. If you filter the oil through a coffee filter when cool, you can re-use it a few times. 8:54
Let us see the thickness, damn. Shit quality video.
𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖒𝖔𝖘𝖒
Can you show us how to make a Bahn Mi please??
I’ll put that on the list!
Save the slightly burnt cupcake for me 😊
I love that too! And also burnt cheese on a pizza.
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
I watched them made it at Cafe Du Monde, their table had about 1/2” flour on it…thank you…
Okay so
@@natashacornu-jbanez5011 exactly
@@natashacornu-jbanez5011 So she’s validating the fact that you should be liberal with your flour.
Thanks
How many beignets did you get with the recipe?
The recipe (2 cups of mix) said it yields 2 dozen but I cut my beignets on the larger size so I got 1 dozen beignets from the 2 cups of mix.
I love the flavor of Pandan. It's the "Vanilla of Asia".
Yes it really is. I ate so many different pandan desserts on my vacation in Thailand!
I want to make one. I always have ideas in my mind about what to add to it. I'm just not good at arranging things.
My son keeps asking me to buy the beignet mix. We've tried the coffee with Chicory and it's so good.
I love crab rangoons and thank you for showing us how to make this! looks so good :)
Yay glad you enjoyed it!
