Decided to check out lowers. The water was Super clear and the waves were really small BUT FUN. Filmed some surfing and underwater from a few different angles. Filmed using the GoPro Hero 4 Silver edition.

Looks like the 1st reef up close to the shore, how deep at 2nd and outer reef’s I wonder
the reef is no joke....just slight contact with human flesh can sometimes be not good!....learned this from experience.....brings an entirely new meaning to "scrub it,kook!"

Set waves at Pipe break way further out, and as many others have pointed out, naturally in deeper water than what is shown, which is suicide by hobby/passion. No-one would surf real Pipe in such conditions.

How do the surfers survive wiping out on such big waves? Do they always hit the reef hard?
There are certain areas inside of the wave. If you fall into the shockwave it throws you out the back. Sometimes you just have to take the pounding.

How deep do you think it is when it gets big when job surfs it anyone can answer
Whenever the winter swell comes in the amount of water being pushed in makes it 5 to 7 ft deep. However where the wave starts to break you can get more Than 6 to 8 ft of water. Whenever you get behind and Launched off the lip you can see people diving feets first from a 10 to 15 or even higher face, if the reef was less than 6 ft of water, everyone would be breaking something everyday!
If this is in the ocean it would be tidal aswell. But looks like fresh water so it might be a lake which would not be tidal

@@joaomendes4321 Pipe would be the most well documented wave on the planet, and Americans love to big note risk. Pipe is well understood. The people who die there are VERY rarely competent surfers. Some Indo waves and other places are more dangerous foot for foot:/ Sure you can get unlucky anywhere, but at least a hospital is minutes away in Hawaii, not days:/ Ohh yehh, its PHYSICS:/

@@joaomendes4321 Amen. My backyard:) Lived in the area for 12 years and visited for shorter periods before that. I first went to Indo in 81, hunting down Nias which was still a semi secret spot then! I bought a bar and a house in Phuket in 85 to be only a short hop to anywhere in Indo. Those were the days. No crowds! Virtually nobody knew anything about the Mentawai"s then! Was a great time till the tsunami in 04 wiped it off the face of the earth:/ What a fuckin mess that was:/

Even at 4ft deep once the swell rolls in, that’s a brutal cheese grater of a bottom to get ragdolled against.
At least it is not as sharp as Kona the reef in puako is like a pile of broken glass I cut my feet every time I paddled out
