Voice Controller for Champion Workhorse Clay Thrower: Field Test

My homemade voice control unit is an upgrade to the champion workhorse wireless remote, allowing users to use a voice command to tell the workhorse to throw. It sends a radio signal to the Champion Workhorse receiver. My solution replaces the wireless remote.

Your Champion Workhorse Electronic Trap Thrower can definitely use a smaller MightyMax, Motorcycle, or Lawn Mower battery. Don’t lug around a large auto/marine battery. Get out there and have fun!

I like to use a ranger band but a bicycle inner tube cut into bands works too I think. They are thick, durable, and work great to keep the shells from hitting the floor. Cheers
I agree this is a nofrills gun. This was my trap gun. It shoots straight, not too heavy, the trigger is kinda crap to be honest and I am not impressed by the firing pin failures. Both my firing pins broke shooting 7.5 target load. Top pin in 2020 and now the bottom in 2024.
Khan Arms used to make the Savage/Stevens 512 Gold Wing O/U shotgun as well. It was quite popular back in the day. I used to own one, but I sold it and bought a new Stevens 555 O/U (made by KOFS Arms) instead. The 555 is a better quality gun.
Friendly advice…not a good idea to be seen discharging a firearm towards power lines. That’s a big no-no. 😃
Thanks for the kind warning - I appreciate it. I actually practice where our police tactical force trains. Unfortunately the perspective of the video makes the lines appear MUCH closer they are - more than a quarter kilometre away. There is no risk to them with the distance and the use of target shot.
Awesome, thanks for sharing! Overpriced and overengineered by the looks of things
Do you know how many boxes of clays this battery will do from a full charge?
I’ve gone through 3 boxes (315 clays) and haven’t rechargedz
If I get a few LIKES on this I'll post more videos of homemade electronic range creations. Some ideas (1) beacon relay - set up a number of beacons on your field, each beacon will call you, and you have to get to that position, when you arrive a sensor will throw a clay. See how fast and how accurate you can be. (2) intelligent course - as you walk through a course, sensors will detect your motion and will pop-up targets for you to shoot at. (3) clay vertical thrower - make a thrower that throws a clay a few feet in the air when it receives a signal...
I bought one of these last year and I think they're fantastic. Kicks like a mule obviously, but super light and comfortable to carry with a sling or over stowed in a bag. It will chew through any 12 gauge cartridge you throw at it and shoots well at decent ranges with a extra-full turkey choke. For a single-shot I think its minimalist and simple design is good for beginners. I did however have a similar issue with misfires where the pin would only dent the primer. After breaking in the firing mechanism with a snap cap after about 300x have NOT had a misfire since.
Thanks! Just found a similar battery on amazon for less than $40. Pairing that with the electronic trap on Amazon at $280 the whole setup minus clays and shells is $320. I think that's a decent price to get me outdoors more this year.
Who selling this for $240 no way is it worth that.
Is the carry handle on there polymer or aluminum?
Thanks for doing this ! Also, in Canada..same question. So glad I won't drag a huge deep cycle !!!
How have you found the sight so far
I just purchased another sight for my o/u. So, I am still liking them.
Hello, I was wondering if you have any longer term review/feedback? Any problems with your Ranger. I keep reading post about how poor the quality control on the Turkish semi autos are- any push back to that story?
Hey, I did sell it to upgrade to another shotgun, though I do miss it. It was fun. I realized that I was doing one thing wrong with it near the end which was impeding its performance, I was leaving a little oil on the tube which would build up and stop the piston. Newbie error. That thing should be dry. My fault.
What the hell you mean its a dam shot gun
You don’t check the pattern of your shotgun?
Thanks!
Recently purchased one for $375 from sportsmans warehouse. 20g isn't abundant in stores. Qlmost wishing it was a 12g. But Online stores help. Picked up some 1476 fps slugs for break in. Can't wait to play with it.
I I have the 12 gauge version kicks like a mule so I shoot mini shells 9 mm and 22 wmr out of mine with adapters
try the 45-70 insert chazsel it is mild in the midland due to added weight of insert up front of the gun
Eu sou do Brasil também uso adaptador na minha uso no cal 38 e 22 LR e 410 uso dos normais os pequenos sem estrias e são bem precisos e funcional
$600 ? i just bought the dickinson ranger, same gun as this for $270. and it feeds and functions with whatever i throw in it.
I live in Canada. These guns are now edging closer to $700, or even $800
@@12douzee wow.
At least we can have them for now. Hand guns are now illegal, except for those already in possession. M1s, now prohibited. Ruger Ranch rifle is defined as a military grade firearm and is now prohibited. Sucks.
@@12douzee wow man that does suck. but here in america i feel we are headed in the same direction.
@@bigbadjohnpesek9894Ain't that the truth. 🇺🇸 TRUMP 2024 🇺🇸
Don't sell it yet. Go to a sporting goods store, buy slingshot steel ammo, remove the butt plate to open up the HOLLOW buttstock, stuff the steel ammo into the stock and reattach the buttplate. Voila! Heftier firearm for a few bucks. Another alternative is to fill the buttstock hollow cavity with spare shotgun ammo for an onboard reserve of ammunition. Different kind of weight. If you sell now you'll take a bath on the selling price. You can adjust the weight with the amount of steel shot or real shot you stuff in the buttstock.
They told you some bs about cocking it though. It's a copy of a 1960's beretta design. When you pull the break open lever, it is fully cocked.
Thanks for the feedback, good to know.
It's a Khan shotgun with a steel receiver. It's a solid piece. 410 is better for the kiddos though.
Thanks. A friend lent me their Stoeger 20ga Condor. Better LOP for her and less recoil, so I let it go.
Nice gun!
what kind of magazine can you use in it I'm having issues finding mags
I have the 12 gauge version of this. haven't cleaned it yet. I sure hope it breaks down like this one. It looks so easy.
I have this same gun. My question is regarding the 2 part piston assembly. Mine has an o-ring in one section, and the other section has the same groove but no o-ring. Does yours have an o-ring in each of the 2 sections?
If you send me your email I will send a picture of what mine looked like.
Nice job
Great guide video
would you mind giving a part number to your "Carry Handle" on your charley Daly N4s shotgun?
It’s not provided with the documentation. I live in Ontario Canada and for these questions I call North Sylvia (416) 242-4867 who is the distributor.
Well done.
Ummm how exactly do you get the charging handle loose? Is there some technique for this?
You just have to pull hard to remove it. It’s pressure fitted.
@@12douzee Thanks for this. Your comment here was the only place I could find this information...!
Would you recommend this as a gift for my dad, was looking at this gun and wondering if it was good or not. Also, how long did the break-in period take?
You are a great son. I am 45. I love this guns size, weight, recoil and aesthetic. I think this would be a very good gift. Break in was 75 cartridges for me. I got annoyed by that time with the jams. Took it home, cleaned and oiled it and it has performed very well since.
@@12douzee Thank you sir, appreciate the insight!
Great video! Love the breakdown and stats!
Hey again....check this out when you have time and give me an honest opinion on what you think... ruclips.net/video/qFnh5NQSbPg/видео.html
You are very funny and engaging!
You do a good job of explaining to future buyers to do their homework on the model and what to expect after purchase for support. Good break down of the firearm.
@@12douzee Thanks for taking a look. Def not a George Lucas! Take care and stay safe.
I just purchased one with the same name but looks a little different. My question for anyone that knows.....When I disassemble it and get to the gas piston parts, I unscrew the ring from around the barrel and then pull the spring down so I can slide the part the piston slides into down as well. Under that piston cover is what looks like a thick washer cut directly in half....TWO pieces. The two pieces fit into a groove between the dark part of the barrel and the shiny part of the barrel. The piston holder covers these two parts and they keep the piston holder from sliding up the barrel. Does anyone else have this two part piston holder system????? I called the gun shop I bought it from and they played dumb as rocks telling me to call Charles Daly....yea right! Pls answer if you have this and I just dont have a broken gun.
It sounds like you have a combination piston and gas ring system similar to my Mossberg 930. There are many videos on how to clean the system. Look up the one from Jerry Miculek. If you still have the box it will tell you your Charles Daly model - for this video I was working on the N4S G2 model 930.196NS-B. 20EC-0006 (the last numbers are printed on the receiver). Without knowing the model number or seeing a picture this is the best I can do.
@@12douzee Thanks for the come back. I do have the box and it says....N4S Bullpup Semi-Auto Shotgun 1-5 round mag MC-1, Barrel length 18.5 inches finishing black. 12 GA 3 inch 930-195. On the weapon itself it says "CD Defense". I think if I had it to do over again I would not purchase a Charles Daly. First of all they were bought out by Chiappa Firearms even though they still have the Charles Daly website. They do not take phone calls...and...they do not respond to email. Virtually no support. The manual has pics of a completely different variant being disassembled and not the one in the box. Nope, should have stayed with RIA. What REALLY torques me off is there is NO SCHEMATIC !! I will be putting out a vid in a couple weeks on tear down and reassembling of this variant.
I just did a short review. I would give the firearm a B. I agree with everything you said. I am having fun with it, but she needs to be kept clean to work well. I worry about replacement parts, but this is a budget semi-auto. I wanted something fun and different to try without breaking the bank. It works great for my son, daughters and wife. For me... I would likely like to move to a 12ga BP in the future with a bit more support.
@@12douzee Ohhh...I thought this was a 12 GA. If you move on give a look at Rock Island Armory weapons. They have a limited lifetime and they ANSWER emails. I have a VR 60 and really like it. The only reason I went with the CD was because it is smaller than most BPs and that was important to me at the time. I would probably go with the RIA VRBP 100 if I sold this one.
@@theoldshooter5631 Apologies. I have updated my description to state 20 gauge. In Canada they are only selling the 20ga at this time. I would love to add your recommendation to my collection. I think the closest we have to it is the Hurricane FD12. Who knows, it may be the same bullpup just under a different name.
