how does this engine pull? can it do the hills no problem, was looking at getting a freightliner FLD 120 with one and a 13speed with 3.90 rear ends and was wondering if it will do good in some hills.
@@crazygamingfab9338 I live in east Tn so all we have is hills. Granted the absolute most I ever gross is just over 40k lbs I have 4.10 rears and a 9sp with overdrive against the dash and I never drop a gear. I hauled a backhoe for a friend of mine weighed around 21k with the trailer pulling around 30k back from Indiana and it got nearly 8mpg and I wasn’t babying it
@@darrenleonard339 ok ya i'm up in Quebec canada, so probably max gross around 90k and was wondering if she will do that,
@@crazygamingfab9338 yeah it would probably do it but I’d say you would be way more happy with more motor. If you were in the Midwest where it’s flat you would be “ok” at that weight, but that heavy in mountains you will be going pretty slow. These motors were used in fleet trucks that ran coast to coast in the 90s so it can be done.
Who makes a 3176?…is it a detroit or something?
@@njonebale7889 It is made by Caterpillar. First cat engine to be electronically controlled basically an early variant of the C-10.
Best sound ever 😍
Does a drop in turbo swap retain the engine brake?
Yes sir
@@darrenleonard339 thanks!
looks like a david brown tractor
What lift are you running?
I believe it had a skyjacker 4”
@@darrenleonard339 Thank you!
At least no jake changes on this one
Wow 😂 way to make yourself look like an idiot
Is the 1050 just a speedy little machine or have you upgraded anything? I’m trading for a frame swapped 1050 with a different Wisconsin engine and I believe original transmission. Hoping it’s got a little speed
What are you average MPG?
If you worried about fuel mileage you're in the wrong game
Truck sounds INSANE!! What type of transmission tuning do you have? I HATE the factory GM shift points sooo much!!!
Ppei trans tuning. Truck now has a billet s480 compound set up and a fully built transmission. I Need to make some new videos.
@@darrenleonard339 I’ve tried there site but can’t find ANY tuning for deleted trucks, only for emissions compliant trucks. I’m trying to get trans tuning ASAP so any help you can offer would be GREAT!!!!!!!
@@darrenleonard339 I found the tuning from PPEI and ordering it RIGHT NOW for my EFI Live AutoCal tuner! Thanks!
Did you do the restoration? It looks great 👍
Anymore videos of the ol girl?

It was the only one they offered at the time when I purchased it. Other than the tip rusting it’s held up good.

I can't believe the boost response . Truck sounds amazing!!
How’s the reliability of the 3176b? Heard some horror stories on the 3176 early gens. Did they get that sorted on the B? Think it was an aluminum spacer that was the issue
The B model or 9CK prefix engines from what info I can find are pretty good engines. The early ones had some problems and most got sorted out with the B model. It still has the aluminum spacer like the previous versions. This one in this truck is a 95 model previous owner swapped it, why I don’t know if it was wore out blew up or something else. I have no idea about mileage except he said when they put it in they put new rods and mains in it and that was about 190k miles ago. I’m almost positive the rest of it hasn’t been apart
I have a 95 KW with the 9CK model, it does ok it’s a tandem dump grossing about 48k pounds sometimes 50k it does well has a slow take off but 35 and up it’s ok
What wheels do you have on there? And did you have to use spacers or get them bored to fit?
They are 18x9 or 9.5 eagle alloys. No spacers and they were on the truck when I got it but I’m pretty sure they haven’t been bored.
What's your egts lookin like
In level 3 of the ppei tuner it would never get above 1400 towing 15k. I pick it up Monday evening just done a full build on the motor and transmission and went twins. Can’t wait to see what it does
Diesel forwarmen
Love that Whiiiiistle
Well maybe by the end of next week we will see how she sounds after a full build and a set of twins
I bought a cat back for my extended cab Colorado but I don’t have cats so it’ll be a bit louder and a bit of modifications for it but hopefully it sounds good
It will be a little louder. Since this video was made my front cat stopped up so I gutted it. Definitely a different tone than what it had
What exhaust system is this, i want to get one for my truck but i dont know which ont to get
It’s a mbrp they only make it for extended and crew cabs but you can make it work on a regular cab.
That's it ,make a longer video
I’ve been meaning to just haven’t had the time
That truck is bad ass
Do they have power steering?
No it does not
Do you have stock trans?
I did at the time I made the video. Engine is out getting built. Doing a cp3 conversion, 80 over injectors, mahle pistons, wagler crank and cam, and adding an 2nd 80 mm charger. Have a full billet trans ready to go back in with the new motor.
Do you pull 43k loads? I have a 94 pete with 3176 and Im thinking about having the engine rebuilt and put on the road. . Im worried about lack of Horse power.... What are your thought on pulling power with this engine?
I don’t but when these trucks where new they where grossing 80,000 all the time.
I have one in my tandem dump truck pulling around 24k it’s does alright even with that weight I feel it lacks power. I’m thinking of swapping to a c12 once it gives out
Our ford aero max dumptruck with the 3176b paired to eaton 10 speed used to gross 60k hauling gabian rock across the confederation bridge in Atlantic Canada from gaytons quarry to summerside pei and never had a lack of power, in the big hills she would have a good pull but all around pulls pretty good
With jakes?
lol. you didnt listen to video
Do you have headstuds or anything done of that sort?
Nope all stock below the turbo. Still builds pretty much the same boost psi just comes in harder and holds it till higher in the rpm’s Under heavy load it will run about 36-38 psi. Till about a month ago if this truck was running it had a loaded trailer or a 15k lbs 5th wheel behind it. Its my daily driver now.
Did you delete your exhaust or did the stock work
You can use the stock exhaust
Does it have the woooo when u let off
Probably bot
Sadly not :( that’s why I like my stock turbo
Parenting done right.
Hello, I currently have the same parts such as cam 110 and 1641cc pistons, I got a nice deal on a dellorto 45mm carb and was wondering if it would run good with proper jetting!
Did it improve your dead pedal? Mine has bad dead pedal and I’m looking for improvement. Currently I’m running a airdog 150, 5” exhaust, and a 150 hp tune. Next I’m thinking of the 64mm turbo, cold air intake, and a pedal commander. My lml won’t even spin the tires. I think I have a bum tune.
the dead pedal can be fixed with tuning. mine is better than it was but not like my lly
@@darrenleonard339 I went to a new F250 Powerstroke. Fixed all my issues. Lol
Stock cp4?
yes for now. cp3 is next on my list
Did you have to tune in order to run that turbo? Or is can i just replace the stock one with it and go?
Got to be tuned or she will build way to much boost and smoke a lil more off idle.
looks like a david brown tractor
They where built to look like the David Brown because they where sold at the same dealers.
Nice ...i have a 3176 in a 94 pete...bottom of the ecm leaking fuel...im running the truck as is...can i stop it from leaking and how? Thank you
you might be able to just bypass the ecm. if it’s the later ecm any of the later ones can be flashed to your settings.
Have a 3176 in a 94 pete...it have a leak to the bottom of the ecm..can i stop the leak and how? Thank you for your help..
You might possibly try just bypassing the ecm. Make a small hose to connect the lines. Depending on which generation of 3176 you have you may or may not be able to get a new ecm for it. The early ones I know cat doesn’t offer anymore, the later ones will interchange with other engines just need reprogrammed.
@@darrenleonard339 thank you so much..i just bought the truck 1 month a go..it started leaking 2 wks after i bought the truck..its a 94 379 peterbilt..3176E with a 10spd dump truck..i live in Belize...here is pretty hot most of the times..think the bypass will still work and how long more or less
Its dripping slowly at the bottom of the ecm box...there is a rail with 6 or 8 bolts attach to the bottom of the box..was thinking about removing the rail and maybe make a gasket...will it harm anything on the ecm is i take that off and put a gasket?
