Toro 60v TimeMaster lawn mower - A Real Dude's Review
Просмотров 16 тыс.Год назад
I just purchased the Toro 60v electric TimeMaster. This is a real guy's review of this Toro battery-powered mower.
Do you have a link for the quick connect kit?
Yes. Here you go. Love this thing. jimmylewismows.com/shop/p/quick-connect
How is this holding up? I am considering the switch to the 60v line up. I water regularly and keep my grass a little longer (3 on my Honda) to help with summer heat and laying stripes. How are the blades and bagging?
I’m about a year in and still really like it. I changed the blades to the high lift OEM. My grass is thick and I’m happy with cut quality.
Any battery loss pulling the stripe kit around?
Yes, but I can still finish my entire 6k sq feet on one charge. 2x 10 amp 1x 7.5.
@@jmice1101 good to know! I have the 2 10amp and a 7.5 from my 22 recycler.
not sure why, but I can't find anything about dimensions (except box dimensions, which does not help). Need to know how much garage space it requires - and can it be stored upright, or does it tip over? (like the smartstow on the old recyclers)
It can be stored upright like recyclers.
DARN GOOD WAY TO LOSE A FOOT , MOWING WITH FLIP FLOPS ON !!!! SMH
Probably not the best idea.
I have the 60v Recycler,it has trouble with climbing inclines-do you have experience with climbing inclines with this unit?
My yard is pretty flat so I don’t have experience with inclines. I do like the self propel on this though.
Any updates on it? How is it working out?
Still like it. Similarly to the gas version, grass does accumulate under the deck if it is even slightly wet. I’d buy it again though.
How is it holding up? I kinda want it but the fact that cant move it without having the blades engage is dumb. The other option is the greenworks commercial 30 and is able to but its more expensive. Toro was just lazy with this one, they could've done so much better but not many 30" options
I hear you on that feedback. It’s not really that much of an issue for me as I usually have the blades running right into my garage. Not much manual traveling. It’s holding up well. I’ve got a few spring cuts in and I don’t anticipate it having any issues. I throttle it up to MAX mode at all times. The cost is steep. No doubt about that.
@@jmice1101 Real quick, is it able to inflate the bag fully on max mode? I'm deciding between this and the gas version and trying to buy today. Have been trying to decide for months but the only thing that worries me is the suction on it. Is it good enough?
When batteries die after 3 years what’s happens next? They may not but whoa 😮look at the price.
I’ll call you to replace.
I knew within two minutes of operation my 30" eTimemaster purchase was a big mistake. Setting to Max power and with two freshly charged 10A batteries, the mower had trouble fully inflating the grass catcher. Even after two passes there were clippings left behind. I called Toro customer service and found out their policy is, "if you use the mower there is no refund or trade for the gas version". Of course, the low power setting is even worse. I keep it on Max power and have not been able to complete my 0.33 acre yard without a recharge. Also, the mower randomly reverts to the low power setting and you need to wiggle the control to return to Max power. This is not a product that is ready for release and may find itself left on the curb for trash day. Update: I replaced the blades with BALLARD-INC GB2-65-15 High Lift (thanks ThomasMurphy) and the Mower fills the bag even better than my gas power Timemaster. I also purchased another 10Ah battery and can complete my yard, plus some.
That stinks.
One mans trash is another’s treasure 👀
When I had a gas-powered TimeMaster with the previous engine, I bagged a couple of times each August in my back yard just to try and thin it out some; would never bag mow myself unless I just felt that I had to; not sure why anyone would except Fall cleanup when mulching attempt failed; but anyway; yes it would fill the bag. About every 2 minutes of mowing, I'd have to empty it. Best mowing for me back then, because the TimeMaster is too wide and too short of a deck to ever make a good mulching mower (clogs up the deck very quickly); at least down south after June 1; is to strap up the side discharge flap. Side chute is a joke. It catches clippings in the discharge area and quickly turns it into a mulching mower, and as said, mulching doesn't work. With TimeMaster, side discharging as described is the way to go. Likely the same with electric.
I've read all you need is high lift blades and it corrects that issue.
#1nba draft
Thank you for the review. I've been running this exact mower last six weeks or so. Love it. Do plan on upgrading blades to higher lift for next season BUT honestly the standard blade setup has worked very well. Yes, a stray uncut blade of grass every now or then but overall a very good cut. I've been mulching everything back into existing grass so can't comment on bagging. Running two 10.0Ah batteries and can fully mow our 7500 SF property with something left over. Charging is quick. Really nothing to critique at all at this point other than it is not an inexpensive purchase but other Toro products we've owned have lasted a long time so hope is this will be the same.
I already did upgrade to the high lift blades. Sorry for the delay. I did find there was more suction when mulching. I almost always mulch so I wanted the best blades available.
Genuine question. Personally, why did you choose the battery 30” over the traditional internal combustion engine 30”?
I am already all in on Toro’s 60v platform. My property is also a good size for battery. 6K sq ft max.
STORAGE...can this unit be stored vertically like some other EM's, or is this not possible?
Yup, I do it all the time.
Just subscribed, wish you would talk about blade speed how many rpms and do a video of a overgrown lawn to see how it handles it. Nice video, I appreciate the close up to the grass for cut quality
Thanks for the sub!
Is that stripping kit better than the factory toro one ?
Good question. I had the toro striping kit on my 22 inch recycler. This one is wayyy better.
Hi there, great review. I have a small commercial business i do after my day job, most of my lawns have flower beds and shrubs that i have to mow using a push/pull technique to get under the shrubs. How do u feel about this with this mower? I currently use a 21" battery mower because i mow during dinner hours and don't want to disturb the owners, a 30" mower would save enough time that i could pick up a few more clients. These are nice lawns that get fertilized with sprinklers. They get mowed weekly but can get thick. My 60v greenworks barely keeps up, i have to walk at a slower pace for a quality cut. Sorry for the long post but not much info on these. Any relative input would be greatly appreciated. Again, nice job and thanks for the review
I have a smaller backyard that requires a fair amount of push and pull. It performs well in both directions. Thanks for the question.
Nice keep up the work. Thanks for sharing your story. I am looking to do the same. I am in California and has equipment is banned now (stupid). I am looking to get one platform to stock up on batteries. Debating Echo, Toro, Ego, and green works. Unfortunately Ryobi does not seem to be up the challenge. I love my Ryobi tools. How many batteries do you use?
@ajfam871 Hi, I hope this helps... On maintained lawns(mowed weekly) I can do 3 yards mowing, trimming, and blowing off driveways and walks on two 5ah batteries. Roughly 3hrs of steady work. The handheld blower has the biggest drain but I only use it to clean off driveways and walkways, it would never work for fall cleanups. I have to use gas for that. I'm in the northeast, lots of leaves! I'd say the mowing uses 1.5 batteries and the remaining half is good for trimming and the blower
@ajfam871 Another note of interest is research the folding handles. The Ego has plastic tabs that seem like they would wear out quickly. It was the deciding factor in going with Greenworks, they seem to be more robust. I have roughly 450 hrs on my original mower. I don't use a trailer so I fold the handle every time I load up to go to the next job. I did a ton of research.
U must of got that at Home Depot, they will sell u returned junk and not give a crap, my gas timemaster had no manual, oil or anything other than the mower in the box and my wife works there even, bought a zero turn and they delivered it in a truck with 2 flat tires and looked like it had been in an accident, had dents and scratches all over it and the driver tried to demand it be left and said they will bring another one later, refused it made him take it with him got one from the dealership, screw Home Depot they suck now, used to be a good company until the wokie democrats took it over and gave employees there anti white training
Nailed it :(
Thanks for the review, having owned a first year Gas Timemaster, I will let Toro work out the bugs for a few years before I consider buying the new battery Timemaster. Second, they are expensive, costing more than twice the price for 50 percent more cutting area. I look forward to seeing a long term video on this mower. The hole in the bag and the dirty parts make me wonder if your mower was made from shareable parts on returned gas Timemasters.
Interesting.
Great review I’m definitely interested in looking to get one is a bit pricey but new technology. Save a lot of money on gas and oil tuneups. Thanks for the video go G man.
Yeah buddy!!
Get a Honda eu2200 generator and extra batteries with a fast charger, to see if you can mow without stopping
Good idea
Don’t understand why they can’t get with the times to adjust the height.
Totally agree
Hello! I would like to know what you think about this after you get more mows...maybe at the end of this season?
Thanks for the idea!
Yes, the cut performed in the video really doesn't tell us much. A follow up cut in some demanding conditions would be helpful for people before shelling out the stupid amount of money they are charging for this machine.
Good idea. Planning on making another video soon.
I was interested in one of these, but I've never seen anyone cut a lawn that needed to be cut with it. They're all precut lawns. How about a 10-14 day mow after some rains? (Not wet grass, just growth grass)
Good comment. I’m thinking about making one of those videos after vacation around Labor Day. Stay tuned.
Way overpriced ! For another 1k you can buy the club cadet ZT1 42 Ultima serie zt zero turn. Toro is losing there mind !
Thanks for the feedback Simon.
Your a "Chooch"
FYI...This 60 volt model weighs the same as the gas model (about 144-145 lbs).
Good to know. Thanks Jammer.
Yeah i agree too for the price point, it needs HUD of battery life/time/mins also temp. Of battery usage. Hell a blade maintenance counter.
It also needs the one-lever mulch / bag feature that the 60v Recycler has.
Loved the video broski, thanks so much!
Any time!
ClogMaster, I have no idea why these things (gas or battery) have the following they do.
Probably because there are no other residential mowers with a 30 inch deck.
Also, are Timemasters known for clogging? I’ve had a gas one 4 years and never experienced anything close to clogging.
@@mDeltaKilomine hasn’t clogged either. I spray the deck off after each mow though
Once you get a bigger deck it’s hard to ever go back to a 21inch mower. So much time savings.
Yeah I bought a used 36” Gravely Stander for the same price.
Agreed! I can’t believe the difference.
Thanks for the video! You are right there isn’t much content on YT about this mower and I am seriously thinking of purchasing and moving to Toro from Ego. Also FYI, there are video apps that allow you to pick your “mic” so you could select your AirPods as the input. Filmic Pro is one of them.
Thanks for the review! I have one request because like you said there is very little content on this mower and the little that there is, is just people mowing their highly manicured lawns taking off maybe an inch. We need to see how this thing handles some growth, maybe 2 weeks worth, bagging and mulching I’m sure it can side discharge it just fine.
Great suggestion!
Can it use flex force batteries? all my handheld stuff is Flex force. love them.
Yup! This is on Toro’s Flexforce 60v platform.
Thanks for the content 👍
No problem 👍Thanks for tuning in.
you’ll lose a little run-time but you can put the regular hi-lift gas TM blades on and get more lift (might get rid of the stragglers) it comes with more of a medium lift set compromised to help run time.
That’s exactly what I’m going to do. I know that I can do my whole property with my current battery setup. So I’m going to try to push this thing.
This is a great suggestion once your grass gets drier in the late Spring/Summer. In early spring a higher lift blade will tend to pack grass up under the deck if you are mulching but if you will always bag or side discharge then the higher lift blades are the way to go...just get ready for reduced run time. However, if you need more batteries it going to cost you $$$ !
Maybe put “eTimemaster” somewhere. Your video doesn’t come up when I search that phrase anymore. I’ve been filtering by upload date to try and see recent things. I thought you had taken it down. You might got a couple more views.
Do you think the 3 battery model would cut 7500 sq feet on turbo?
IMO, It would depend on the battery size, amount your cutting and whether it was dry. I think if you had 3 10ah, you followed the 1/3 rule and your grass was dry. Then yes. I’m going to make another video this weekend where I mow with a Big League striping kit attached. That should be a good test of the battery life. Stay tuned.
I recently picked up the 22in SR 60V have to say coming from a different battery platform, im very happy with it, would love to step into a E timemaster, but maybe next year lol. ( might convert my Mclane with the 22in 😂)
How do you like the SR?
@@jmice1101 after putting the gas SR blade on it, i like the cut and mannerism of the mower alot better, I'll see how it goes after some time on 8k² with the heavier blade. I only have the 1.5/2year old 6ah, and a new 4ah ( starting to invest in toros electric ) so far im happy with it, as i keep my KBG/Rye at ¾/1inch
The Super Recycler has ball bearing in the wheels which makes a big difference in ease of movement.I believe the Time Master also has ball bearing in its wheel assembly.
Thanks for making the video. How long does it take to charge a batteries? I am getting ready to get one.
Hmmm. Good question. I haven’t fully depleted it yet and then re-charged it. Once I do that I’ll report back.
Sounds good
One con I’m seeing in other reviews is the need for the blades to be active in order to use personal pace to transport the mower. Do you see that as an issue too, or are you finding it easy enough to move around without personal pace? Or do you just go ahead and power it up when moving from the garage to the lawn? Great review, by the way!
Thanks AP. I saw that in other reviews as well and was wondering the same thing. It’s very challenging to move this thing without the Personal Pace. I’ll just be running the blades while I’m traveling. What do you currently have? Considering the eTM?
Right now the wife and I are using a 21” ego select cut xp to mow about 20k sq ft. It’s definitely a chore. Planning on a tractor someday, but I’ve rented a gas timemaster a few times and think a good 30” push would be the best bang for our buck now. I’d love to stay electric, but honestly this might be a big enough of a con for me that I either wait for a revised etimemaster, or just go with the gas model. Then again, the gas model’s tank is so small that I have to fill up right with one or two more lines to cut in the backyard. Trade offs all around
On my gas Timemaster, I’ve found if I pull the personal pace handle all the way out and push from the steel bar (not the personal pace handle), I’m able to roll it around quite easy. Pushing the personal pace handle with the motor off locks the transmission to the motor.
Toro said that they may address the blade disengagement while in transport which I would have a huge problem with in my yard., not sure why they did not figure this would be an issue or safety concern. Can you rinse this Timemaster off with a hose?, most electric mowers say not to cut damp or wet grass, or rinse with a hose.
It's because the Toro battery mowers personal pace system uses the same mechanical self propel mechanism as the gas mowers and not a separate electric motor like most other battery mowers. In other words the blade is always engaged to the motor. They would have to install some type of blade clutch mechanism in order for the mower to move without the blade turning (like the gas powered Timemaster does). The issue is extra parts, cost, and the extra mechanical breakdowns that DO OCCUR due to these extra parts (pulleys, belts, springs, bearings, etc) on gas Timemasters. (I've had mine for 12 years!)
It’s been sitting in my HD cart for 2 days 😣
Haha. That price tag is rough.
@@jmice1101 my biggest hangup is worrying about having issues and dealing with initial release sort of problems. But I really want to go electric and ditch the gas Timemaster. I do have a question I haven’t been able to make out in pictures: can you tell if the gas Timemaster stripe kit will fit on the eTimemaster? Are those same bolt locations available?
I just installed the same big league lawns striping kit as the gas version. Everything would be the same. I also installed Jimmy Lewis’ quick connect kit which is pretty cool.
Just sent it 😬
Let us know what Toro says and how that experience is!
Will do!
Dude great review 🍻 Does the deck get caked up like the gas powered mower?
Thanks for watching. My lawn was pretty dry today, so not yet.
Of course it will, just because it runs on batteries instead of gas doesn't make it work any different, they still get dirty if you try and mow wet grass.
Maybe slightly less than the gas model because the 60V model uses a lower lift blade to extend battery run time. The lower lift blades seem to keep the deck from getting "packed up" with grass as badly as high lift blades but it can still happen in very lush and moist grass such as Springtime if you are mulching. The downside of low lift blades is that you have less suction power to stand the grass blades up for a nicer cut quality. They also won't suck up as much leaf debris, etc. as a high lift blades will. It's a compromised blade that provides lower overall cutting performance but longer runtime.
@@mellowjammer Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the info. Much better than RUclips troll @wildbill23c.
Lol@@wildbill23c
Great review! Good suggestion on the dash / battery indicator 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
