The later trucks (see TM 9-2320-387-24P) switch to constant tension clamps. When (not if 😂) these leak again, suggest you go that route and dont over-compress during install.
Unfortunately with HMMWVs there is always something that needs fixing (or so it seems.) I am checking it and many other points in the rigs before each trip.
Lol my golden retriever black lab mix Jackson would do this too. Flies and June Bugs. He stopped for awhile when he had his nose and tongue stung together when he snapped 2 one right after the other. Poor guy. Love your Loki. Jackson passed at 16. I got him when I was 15 and he went on every Boy Scout hike including 3 100 miler trips.
I’m sorry for your loss. Loki has been bit and stung a few times… but he is stubborn…
@@Idaho_Humvee Oh it's okay. He had a long life and was surrounded with love. We had to put him down due to cancer. He was blind and deaf but had a younger golden retriever gal that guided him around. I'm 65 and still miss him. Best Dog Ever
Enjoy your Loki! A wonderful dog 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Yes he is. He is currently getting all sorts of love and attention on the couch.
RAHHHGHH 🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸
nice car
I just bought two as well. Cans a great guy to talk to!
Yeah he was very informative and so far I am pleased with the boxes.
Will the new box solve cold start issues. Mine hates cold temps ?
Somewhat. New plugs and fuel that isn’t gelled will be your biggest help. The new box will allow you to control how many times and for how long you heat your plugs. Never more than 6 seconds at a time since that will burn up the plugs. With the old box and brand new plugs my ambulance started in -6f. Camotek box helps keep your plugs in good working order by not overheating them.
Gotta love that they had to insulate the heater hose from the heat.😁
My theory is that it is to limit the heat coming into the cab during summer
Hey there just found your videos. I bought a M997a2 and am converting into a camper. Raised the roof and put a bed over the cab. Lots to learn on this motor. So much under there that is a puzzle. Also had a new half shaft fail, tore all six bolts off the rotor and not sure why. Lots of fun for sure
Wow. Sounds like something bound up in there. Check your portals and make sure those are all up to spec
I hope to join you there next year! My family and I are currently moving to nampa Idaho. By the end of next month I will own and drive an m1123 Hmmwv out there!
Awesome! I look forward to that!
OMG your duct installs so easy....try that with an ECV turbo. You have to basically crush the duct and spend 30" wiggling it in mm by mm. Then is basically flat smooshed between the intake and the top of the firewall....NOT FUN.
Score one for the 3rd gen trucks!
Just curious, how long did it take to get the start box shipped out from date of order? Not including shipping time.
About a week. And that is only because he was waiting on his supplier for the box to have it powder coated. Then it was custom built in a day, tested, packaged and then shipped. Quite reasonable.
awesome you are out, just got my 1035A2, hoping to get er out after preliminary checks and fluid changes!
Remember to double check those spindle nuts!
Which broker did you go through? Love the truck!
No broker for buying it. If you are talking insurance I just called haggerty directly.
@@Idaho_Humvee who did you purchase the M997 ambulance through? I misspoke previously and said broker instead of dealer
Idaho Motorpool in Fruitland
I found an ambulance that is running. It doesn’t have the rear doors, but he has not titled it yet and only has a sf97. If I remember right, it is difficult to take that form and title it because only the original person can do that, right?
I am not 100% on that. Mine came with a title already. Not having rear doors is very common. Finding replacements is difficult and expensive. The ones on mine are custom made replacements and are less than ideal.
As far as ear protection you could go Bose A20 aviation headsets! Protection and talking! Haha
Thanks!
I don’t know your history but how do you know how to work on these? Just basic general knowledge? I’ve been looking into the M997A2’s to potentially convert one for overlanding. I’ve built out a couple trucks but never a camper style as I just didn’t like the offerings out there. But the capability plus a lower stance of the ambulances is appealing to me. I’m up north in CDA from you. Great work
General maintenance knowledge and a ton of google. The TMs are the go to source for diagrams and what not. Think of them as 1980s trucks with a few specialty parts. The M997A2s are great but they have no guts. I plan on trailering mine most of the way and then driving them in. But then again I am 4 hours from my favorite camping area with my truck… probably 12 with the ambulance lol
There is a kit that is available that replaces the two blank out plates on the top rear of the block with plates with fittings and a third fitting to replace a front fitting that has one of the coolant hoses attached. It basically allows one to plumb in return coolant hoses to the back of the block keeping the temperature at the rear of the engine cooler. I’ll see if I can find the video that showed this system. ruclips.net/video/akz367t_rvE/видео.htmlsi=xi4uJtW8AbH29pgE
Interesting. Never knew that existed!
I thought you pulled your cadillac valve for full-time fan operation.
Love the hummer but i love my BMY923A2 better
Those 5 tons are no joke! Only reason I don’t have one is because the parts weight. I don’t want to have to change a 400lb tire lol
Her insurance company will have sticker shock when the the cost of the parts come in.
I wonder why
Veterans Day parade
I have no idea why I get these Humvee videos. Makes me laugh at all these videos. We all hated the Humvee unless you were a midget. At least when I got the GMV it became semi respectful. I am a old guy, but we still had some old CUCV in the late 90s. I would take one of those all day over. We flew in Tacomas from California because we could purchase Helix locally.
Well I am 5’6” so I guess that helps lol
I think that was where that airplane hanger collapsed. A couple weeks ago
Nope. That was in boise. This video is in Nampa.
@@Idaho_Humvee I’m up there twice a week and didn’t even realize there was more than one air field lol
Oh yes. Boise, Nampa, Caldwell all have airfields. Plus there are tons of little ones scattered around
@@Idaho_Humvee I’m headed up there now I’m gonna pay better attention this time

hey thanks for the vid. what is the black box with the top latches on the right side of the engine above the front right wheel right next to the radiator? never seen that before. ty
That would be a mounting spot for the jack
Damn, and Im out here testing products like this on accident
Good Info
Flex seal
Cool rigs. Just for general knowledge, the tool for straightening the fins on radiators, condensors, and such, can be bought at autozone for $10 -12. Part number is 24526. Comes with different gauge combs and is made with a nylon mix to glide between fins while straightening them.
Awesome! Thanks!

Thanks for the vid. Just picked up a M998 myself, currently in the process of replacing the engine with a used 6.2l, new fuel tank and everything in between. It’s been a party so far.. thanks again 👍
Good luck with your project! Let me know how it goes!
How much snow did you guys end up with?
Roughly 2 feet
That’s a good time, we got around a foot and it drifted pretty good but now the rain is screwing it all up.
Yeah the rain is making snow a thing of the past
Hey there, any update on how this went? Im trying to see specifically what lines need to be looped ubder there. Im looking at a HMMWV to possibly purchase, and it may have this issue. Thanks for any updates!
So far it’s still going strong. Basically just run the line back on itself. Transmission to transmission for example. Then check all of your fluids and you are good to go.
@@Idaho_Humvee Thanks, amigo! I found some pics. Looks easy peesy. 😎🤙
It really is. With one exception. Getting your hands that far up there lol. Otherwise it’s just hose and hose clamps.
I put over 5,000 miles on my M1123. Going through your truck when you get it from the auction is key. 🍻🇺🇸
Yep I have put over 3k on mine. Good rigs.
I have a question about your setup there. I am buying my first humvee soon and want to do something similar to yours. How did you put your rear canvas wall (for lack of better words) on the B pillar instead of on the C pillar as you have the four door style roof? Thanks! I love your channel btw!!!
It is a 2 person divider. I used to have the 2 person set up and just replaced the roof with the 4 person
(Different account lol) thank you for the response!
I like your truck configuration. 😎👍
Thanks!
Where are you located? I’m in south central idaho
Treasure Valley
That’s one of the places on my list the mountains are so nice over there.
Yeah they are
Yeahhhh
My rig bacled itself out in a 360 apparently and took out two cars. Not good
Sorry to hear that!
One Humvee downside, it's wider than most dirt roads. Tires on one side are in rocks or brush.
Yeah there are some drawbacks with that. But the advantage is that I can basically straddle the jeep and SxS ruts and have a much nicer drive.
I just purchased new plugs with the BDC extraction tool, hope it goes nice and smooth. lol
Just go nice and slow with it
Great Vid! I am still going through my M1152A1 I picked up recently. Looking forward to getting her road worthy.
Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
Absolutely! Can I also request some help? It is most likely pretty straight forward but I am by no means a mechanic. I am fumbling through this one part at a time. If you have time, could you show me how the windshield washer is set up on your humvee? During Demil they cut my lines and I feel like more is missing. Having a hard time finding info on it. Just a request, if you don't have time I understand. Thank you! @@Idaho_Humvee
Are you talking about the fluid lines to spray or the wipers and electrical lines? My fluid doesn’t work on either of my rigs yet.
@@Idaho_Humvee fluid lines and sprayers. Haven’t tested the pump yet. Wipers are working.
I will see what lines I have installed on my rigs when I get a chance
Nice rig! How often are you changing hub and differential oil?I own a 1995 H1 that came with a stock v8 350(now a 383 built for torque). By changing my oil out with amsiol 90w I have had a huge increase in mileage. Any 90w will do. Seems to affect the hub after 6 months.
Interesting. I hadn’t thought about the effect on mileage. I haven’t changed it myself yet as I bought it already gone through and the mechanic is a friend of mine. I put about 3k miles on this rig since I bought it. I will probably swap fluid this spring and see how it all works out.
Did you ever test it? Did the sleeping bag work as advertised?
It hasn’t been cold enough here to test it yet. I am hoping to do so in January.
Finally tested the bag. Will have a video up shortly. Single digits on closed cell foam pad in a tent that was on snow. No issues.
This bag saved my life living in a truck during a Colorado winter.
Ive recently been intrested in humvees and i love your build, but how much did this build cost you if you dont mind me asking?
Components added to the rig are probably $2k. Its hard to say though… I have lucked out on a few things. It’s the cost of the truck that will add up fast. There are good deals out there still though.
And if you don't mind me asking where you got those jerry can holders and what are these bench/fence thing called in the rear
The Jerry can holders are from the first generation of airlift bumpers only (from what i can tell.) if you go with an A2 bumper it won’t work. The “fence” things are cut down troop seat rails.
I'm 16 do you think this would be an ok purchase. Because I've been recently saving and I don't travel and I'm pretty much local. I've just been getting mixed results from people saying it runs normal and others saying it needs maintenance 24/7. I would like to know your opinion.
Is it too hot for summer use?
Most likely. Both Loki and I prefer the cold. There would be way too much insulation in this bag for summer use.
Glad your ok man-makes me wanna upgrade my front guard
Thank you. I have considered something stronger but that means more weight. These are slow as it is…
@@Idaho_Humvee yeah I totally get it man-I have m998 with 6.2 /3 spd so I feel it
I built steel bumpers that resemble the military ones but way stronger. Alot cheaper too
That should fix up pretty quick. I like to make lemonade out of my lemons when possible. Good time to upgrade the crash bar. I just installed a dash cam on my Humvee and this is one of the reasons. Would have caught that moment of collision and made it difficult for the other party to not be truthful about how it happened. If you do the repair yourself please wear a quality mask when sanding on that paint. Nasty stuff. Your local auto paint supply store can mix up spray cans of military paint to touch it all in as needed.
What dash cam did you go with?
@@Idaho_Humvee auto-box T9 Pro. I just did a video on it. In fact once I figure out how to add a text over to my video there is a pretty decent discount code I need to add. ruclips.net/video/-A32ZyB_MtE/видео.htmlsi=aa_w5YPlj9xdXMFB

Hello, I’m in Idaho, do you know if there’s a very good humvee mechanic-technician in Boise area? Or are you that person that I’m looking for? 😅 thank you very much!!! 🙏🏻
There are two places in the area that have experience with HMMWVs that I know of. The first is Idaho Motorpool in Fruitland. That’s where i bought my rigs from. The second is Stark Auto Ordnance in Caldwell. I do my own work unless it is something beyond my ability.
Idaho motor pool is pretty much done. He's auctioned off most of his stuff and rented out his yard. I've bought 2 humvees from Alex too. Your better off learning from RUclips, because most people won't give you the time of day.
Would've been interesting to see the picture of the other car, this sort of make me more interested in the IBIS Tek or Luverne bumper. I have the same bumper you have and these bumpers are not that sturdy, the luverne bumper would've most likely prevented the hood from being moved back
Hers suffered some serious damage. Her suspension was seriously damaged as was the fender, hood and bumper. Assorted other things as well. A surprising amount of damage for a low speed impact.
