Ball Python Egg Candling. The dos and don'ts...
I haven't find him :( He has been missing for 3 days. I'm a bit panicking and started to overthink. I'm scared that he went into the trash can and was thrown away. Will ball python go to the trash can? And in the room that's my ball python cage is, there is a window, I know it's colder outside, but is it possible that my ball python get out? Sorry my English isn't good.
my ball python is a juvenile but she is chill af, first time I handled her she was a bit timid but eased up in like 5 seconds after holding her, super cool and amazing animals
It's great when you get one like that! Thanks for watching 🙂
I believe your snake is just content hanging onto your arm and chilling out there… mine will sometimes just sit there with me and just chill for a while and other times they will slowly move around and explore. Ball python’s aren’t that active anyway so them just laying there is not a bad thing really. I believe yours is trying to not fall off your arm and is just hanging out. 🤷🏻♂️ otherwise it would be trying to get away and be runny
Normally I would agree but she was gripping my arm REALLY tight - much tighter than she needs to just to hang on. Sometimes she will relax, but not very often, it's just how she is. Obviously I wouldn't be able to say if she's comfortable or not without knowing her and other Ball Pythons for a long time. Thank you for commenting - you have a great channel! 👍
I think I just answered the question about how the chemicals leak from a wine cooler . Through piercing the insulation .
Yes I would say that is correct. Scary thought!
I have a snake that's on the escape about the same size as your male. 5 days in and still not found her. She is a great escape artist. But I have always found her within the day, this is the longest she has been gone.
Hi - I'm so sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner! I've been on vacation and just catching up now. Have you checked behind the heaviest pieces of furniture? Are there any vents she could have gotten into?
@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ thank you for your reply I luckily found her early hours off the morning. I made my flat really hot. And dark but I believe she was making her way to the fish tank
Great news! I wonder if she was getting thirsty? Whatever the case, I'm glad you've got her back 🙂
Ha my blue eyed Lucy when i put my hand by enclosure she crawls right on. Then she stretches out and relaxes on my arm with me watching tv. SNAKES DO HAVE FEELINGS AND DO CARE FOR PEOPLE THEY NO
I hope you are right, it's a nice thought! 🙂
😊 great information thank you once again
Thank you! Sorry for taking so long to reply, I was on vacation! I do appreciate you taking the time to watch 🙂
Brilliant video . As someone new to BP my info basically comes from Chriss hardwick ,morph market, BP world or various other yt channels giving a break down of the morph. I find it really useful to here your personal break down of what the more basic morphs do since that's mainly what I have . The pinstripe hi end morph had me thinking . Also I would be interested in your take on spider and the spider complex as they seem to be very much in the bad books . Also things like champagne, or exactly how to spot what's in various pied morphs . Oh I tried to email you from your Web site but it didn't work so I will send you the message on FB it's about building an incubator .
Sorry for the late reply - I've been away for a while! I love Chris Hardwick's channel, it is one of my favourites too. When it comes to the Spider gene there is fresh information coming out about it regularly now, particularly when it comes to the actual brain deformities that in engenders. So, I definitely would like to do a video on it! I just need to find the time to do it in an in-depth, balanced way to shed light on both the facts and myths surrounding it. I will check my email now and see what's wrong with it 🙂
Mine jus disappeared I’ve looked everywhere and stayed up all night waiting and biting it been 8 days and don’t know what to do I’m depressed and I start collage this coming week and probably won’t be around to catch her
Is there any way for her to get out of the house, or do you think she is still inside? Also, have you gone room to room and looked behind all heavy furniture? Maybe try putting down some flour near doorways and other areas to see if she makes tracks at night
I tried it all and waited 4 days with the flour even left out live mice I live on the second floor and is unlucky she went outside but still no signs of her I’ve lost hope it’s been 9 days now and stayed up multiple nights trying to hear her but nothing and she sully is very active and makes slot of noise but I’m lost at what to do next even bight a skinny snake camera and searched she areas that are unlikely would go
*unlikely *
Hi - I'm really sorry I couldn't reply sooner, I was on vacation! Is it at all possible she got into a vent?
Love the video. I've purchased/adopted (but not brought home yet) a four year old male Ball Python, and this will be my first. The store has agreed to keep him until I'm all set up, and he was at their other location for just over three years. He seems very "friendly" and curious, I'd say definitely on the neophilia side of things, but since I'll be placing him into a) a new environment and b) a bigger enclosure, I want to make sure I don't overdo anything. I'll definitely follow the rule of "Don't handle a new snake for a full week", but after that - is 15 min the max amount of time you would recommend, even if he were to show he's getting something out of it? Or would you wait to see what his body language indicates? (The other day at the store, he was out for quite some time, and he remained curious/did not exhibit Blake behaviour). Excited I found your channel! I'll be watching plenty of these/doing my research.
Thank you! It sounds like the store is a good spot with the animals' welfare at heart. Personally, I always try to stick roughly to the 15 minute rule, but mainly because of temperature. Some snakes - like the one you are adopting - probably would enjoy hanging out longer, but I never feel comfortable keeping them away from a heat source for that long. I hope that makes sense! It sounds like you are doing your research and I get the feeling you will do great with his care. Thanks for subscribing and please don't hesitate to get in touch 🙂
As a fellow biologist, granted an ornithologist, and ball breeder I think it depends on the snake. Some absolutely get some satisfaction from interaction, some never will, most are somewhere in between. Also, i notice that even docile females can get a little defensive when gravid and tend to not handle them during that time. When you have 50-100 snakes you see the spectrum of behaviors. As to the whys...I have no idea. Read your snake. Theyll tell you what they want Edit-maybe i shouldve finished watching 😂. Great video
That's a good point - most animals will fall somewhere in the middle. In fact, if I encounter either an extremely shy or extremely defensive Ball Python my first move is usually a thourough health check! Thank you for watching!
I will be looking for all this behaviour when i get back from my holiday . Thanks for the video .
You're welcome - let me know how it goes!
I see spotnose. But im not too good with morphs 😅
Yes! Spotnose and something else 🙂
She's gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Another great video .I have come to much the same conclusions with my snakes .I have some that seem especially adventurous and others with no desire to come out .I tend to be with the snakes from 10 till around 12 in the night so the lights have been out for a while, and they are at the most active .
Thank you! Yes there's definitely a few of my snakes that simply aren't interested. I still try to get them out but not as often as the others. That sounds like the perfect time to observe them!
😊 love this video great information thank you❤
Thank you, I appreciate you watching! 😁
My snake is thus morph too!
What's it's name? This one's dad is called Spot - I couldn't think of anything better 😅
@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ Bertie, like the late queen's father. So he's a royal python lol. I was stumped for names too.
Yum yum
I do love it when they are so enthusiastic 😅
Such a tasty table 😂
Great video ,I have already put this into practice and started to feed much larger sizes to my smaller snakes whilst sticking to lw rats for the bigger snakes . The days of buying a massive medium rat from the pet shop thinking it's about the same as his widest point then having him not eat for six weeks are behind new now 😂
Thank you! Glad to hear it - I think a lot of us have been through that frustrating cycle 😅
Thanks for the video .I didn't really think they would but it's interesting about the vitamin b shot .
You're welcome, and thank you for watching! 🙂
I just my first clutch and the mother has been incubating for the first 7 days. Now she left them. The temp 86, and humidity 90, have been consistant . I hope i have good luck. I'm watching them all day to make sure everything stays the same.
Sounds like you are keeping a good eye on them so fingers crossed 🤞. Has she gone back to them?
@@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ thank you, no she has not gone back. I candled the eggs and they are good. I have the temp at 88 and humidity is 90 or a little higher. I check them constantly because there are 5 other snakes in the enclosure. Idk if the mother would get mad if she came back and the other snakes were incubating her eggs
If she doesn't go back to them at all you will need to keep a real close eye on humidity. Maybe put some moss around them to make sure. 90 humidity sounds ok but watch for a lot of dimpling and put the moss around if they look like they are drying up. I hope it goes well for you! 🤞
@@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ Thank you. I have bedding around them now with the temp & humidity gauges in the hide with the eggs. I spray a mist of water on the bedding every couple hours so the humidity stays at 90 or above and the temp is 88. I also have a humidifier plumbed into the enclose i turn that on an hour or 2 a day. Thanks for the advice. I'll take all i can get. I really want a successful birth.
You're welcome. Sounds like you are doing everything you can, I really hope it goes well!
Always good information ty ❤😊

Thank you! I really appreciate it 😁
Don’t like the cypress mulch or the other & isn’t it hard to find the poo in it🙃? Just ordered the Aspen chips you mentioned off Amazon( from JOSH’S FROGS). Thank you
That's a fair point - it is harder to find the poo in darker substrates. It's usually the urates you spot first, or you smell it 😅 You're welcome 🙂

Thanks 🙏
Mine only not me once. It was spring and he hadn't eaten since winter started. I came home with a mouse for him and he smelled it and bit my hand when I was putting it in his tank. Man that bite bled like a siv...
It's always a bummer when one gets you! But on a positive note, at least you got the satisfaction of your snake starting to feed again. Sometimes with BPs that go off food you almost start to feel like taking a bite would be worth it. Thanks for watching!
Good info here. I've always heard Ball Pythons are very docile, but other of the larger species can be very temperamental and problematic. I had a female Columbian Red Tail boa many years ago when stationed overseas - couldn't import her back due to import laws of exotic pets at the time so I gave her to my boss who took care of her for many years before donating her to a local school... ANYWAY, My boa was the same. She was the size of a small drum stick when I got her, and was right at about 6' long and as thick as my forearm when I left, and she only bit me once. I was walking down the hall and my daughter had her guinea pig and asked if she could take it to her friend's house. I scratched it on the head and said 'sure'... Went over to the computer and about an hour later I saw my boa was out roaming around, so I opened up the tank (still smelling like guinea pig), and of course, she hit, pulled back and twisted for the wrap, let go and pulled away before I even said, "OW!!" LOL! It felt like someone took two staplers to each side of my hand and slammed them together to put staples in me. Back of my hand was bruised, bleeding like crazy. Of course - that was me being an idiot reaching in smelling like food. That was the only time she ever bit me. When I held her, she loved curling around my neck because of the warmth. If something startled her, of course she'd tense up, but can't blame her for that. I'd just put my hands on her and rub her gently and she'd loosen up.
Thank you! If I had room for more snakes that a boa would be one of my first choices! I guess their bite is definitely a bit more powerful than one from a Ball Python, but like you say - they release so quickly when they realise they've made a mistake. I had a red tail years ago that did similar behaviours when she was around my neck. Thanks for sharing - it made me think about how bad I need to get another one at some point!
You removed my comment even though you asked for differing opinions. Terrible.
Seems like your comment is public? Nothing removed?
Ive noticed that poorly kept especially cold Ball Pythons are super bitey and defensive.
That makes sense. Being too cold would make them worried about being able to defend themselves and get preemptively defensive. Now that you mention it, I had a corn snake once that got a serious temper going into brumation. Thanks for commenting!
I appreciate that you don’t project human emotions on snakes. It does them a disservice to treat them like a dog or a cat. They are great pets but they aren’t trying to snuggle with you lol. I love my BP’s but I’m well aware the best I’ll get from them is that they’re healthy and comfortable in their surroundings.
Hey thank you for watching and commenting! I totally agree, pythons are great pets, but when it comes to affection we can get it from dogs/cats/birds instead

Nice - sounds like a good deal to me! I'm guessing it was already set up and ready to go?
Can you plase tell me what kind of morph the snake in the thumbnail is? The pattern on the head is absolutely gorgeous. Is it a specific gene that causes this?
Hi there and thanks for watching! The snake in the thumbnail is a Pastel Spotnose Clown. You can probably find one on Morphmarket - there are usually a fair few available
where i am from in th united states its hundreds of dollars to put a n animal down. then u have to have it cremated or buried in an animal cemetary. u cant bury an animal on ur own property. like u home the house ur not u rent it. private property
That's a shame! I knew it was state-by-state over there in terms of laws, but I didn't know any state was that strict. On the one hand, I guess these laws could be enforced because of the possibility of dead animals spreading disease if they get dug up by other animals. On the other hand, the financial burden must make it harder for people to get animals put down humanely. I've had it easy in comparison, but I'm sure similar laws will appear over here too eventually. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’m also in the US, but I live out in the country. As far as I know, we are allowed to bury our animals that have passed away. I’ve had one dog cremated, but we have built wooden boxes to bury other animals that have passed away in. I’ve never had to take one of my animals to the vet to be euthanized though.
It is NOT hundreds of dollars, that is a lie. If you have an animal, you should have the money to provide him or her with proper treatment. If you are short on funds, you can almost always go to the municipal shelter to have it euthanized humanely. Granted, not every municipality is equipped to treat reptiles and in some Red states, they are horribly backwards and primitive in euthanizing even cats or dogs. Why it's important to know where all the good reptile vets in your area are. As far as burying it, there is reasons counties do not want to have people burying numerous animals like cats or dogs in your yard, but no one is coming to arrest you if you bury a baby ball python or a hamster, so that's somewhat misleading.
@@OG_Beckie_Leigh i live in michigan my county doesnt allow it
Such a nice dosile, stunning snake you have. Thanks for the insight of ending the life of an animal like this.
Thank you! Yes Bobby is pretty chilled-out, I always introduce him to people who are new to snakes because of his laid-back attitude
Thanks, it is interesting to learn from your experience . Thankfully, i have never had that problem .I currently have two snakes that won't eat and have not done since i got them, so i suspect it's just taking them time to settle, and i just need to leave them alone .
That does sound pretty normal - I am always available to help though, so don't hesitate to get in touch if you're worried!
@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ Thanks I might if my next move doesn't work . I've had one of them about three months now . Only thing I have not tried is a chick or leaving the prey in overnight . I have a Enchi BP…..hatched 12/18/2023 keep it in a plastic bin….thermostat with heat pad ( purchased BP at reptile show). Hasn’t shed yet🤔? And I feed f/thawed. ~NEW SUBSCRIBER~ from USA-Tennessee
Hi there and thank you for subscribing! That is definitely a long time to go without shedding, but I have heard of it before. To help you out, I first need to ask some questions: 1. Have you been weighing the snake? 2. How much has the snake been eating? And how much does the food weigh? 3. Is the snake doing any part of the shed cycle? Or literally not at all? 4. Has the snake done anything weird like regurgitate?
How big is he?
I honestly don't know. I can't get him to sit still long enough to measure 😂
@@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ what I do is measure the most recent shed and add a little to it
Sorry for the late reply! Yes that's probably about the easiest way. The only truly accurate way is to measure along the spine, from tailtip to snout. It means you need to restrain the snake a lot and it's something I don't like doing. Getting an accurate size is always a pain!
Super pastel highway?
Good guess! It is super pastel but also two other genes
My 1 year old pastel gal is most active at her dusk which is when the uvb bulb goes off at 8pm and on again at 10 am and I have a DHP running for 24/7 heat. She seems to be most active between 8pm to about 130-2am because I’ve seen her go back to her hide mostly between 1-2am between when I would typically fall asleep at 1:30-2am. Insomnia is fun. First ball python that I got at 150g in July 2023 I haven’t been awake to see if she is active at dawn she seems crepuscular to me. She is a very good eater. Never declines a meal. She is 700 grams eating a small rat every 2 weeks
That is some really interesting information. I know insomnia sucks - but at least you're getting a rare insight into what these animals are doing when most of us are asleep. Thanks for commenting!
I’m never gonna find my girl. She’s gonna die 🥺 I’m crying rn writing this because she has been out for 3 hours and she’s prolly in the vents and or trapped. I already tried looking it’s 4 am rn and I’m having a panic attack.
Don't panic yet, it takes a long time for one to die! Keep looking, and maybe put down some trails of flour or talc to see if any tracks show up in them tomorrow night (don't use talc if you have pet birds in the house). She will come out when the house is quiet, and she won't be far. If you really think she is in a vent, it might be worth contacting a heating and air conditioning company for advice (it happens more often than you might think). Definitely don't give up though - she's probably found a really good hiding place but will definitely come out sooner or later. Keep me posted!
