Didn't tell the truth no full episodes
I think a few CBS affiliates refused to air this episode in 1987.
AIDS is not God’s punishment. It is just a disease like cancer and diabetes. Society would never look a cancer patient or a diabetic in the face and say that God is punishing them for smoking tobacco or for eating unhealthy.
There's still people out in the world that think like this, sadly
For Ima Jean to even utter “god’s” names is sacrilege.
When this aired, it took my breath away to see support for us. Absolutely still love this today and always. Btw she was a force and I would NOT wanna be on Julia's bad side! 😂
People like this really annoy me. Using their religion as an excuse for bigotry.
To younger audiences, it may seem implausible that someone could make a cruel and obnoxious comment like "killing all the right people", particularly someone who was presumably educated, civilized and gracious like Imogene Salinger, but in the throes of the AIDS crisis during the '80s, these types of comments and attitudes were more prevalent than one might realize, and they didn't just come from the usual segments that one might expect. Imogene had been referenced by name in a couple of previous DW episodes as one of the Sugarbakers' longstanding clients, and so she was presumably someone with whom they had known and associated for some time (and Julia mentions here that she and Imogene had been acquaintances for over 27 years), and so that makes the make the bigotry and ignorance of her statements even more shocking. I can remember myself hearing similar comments from friends and acquaintances who I never would have expected would have felt or thought that way.
I remember this episode. The woman who played Imogene was very good at portraying holier than thou southern Christian women.
This is how I will always remember the great Dixie Carter. She was the only actress that could have played this character ❤
Julia Sugarbaker can take me to church any day
Don't talk to Miss Bernice like that!
I always wanted Kendall to say "Mrs. Salinger, I am certainly not an advocate for outing people before they're ready, but in your case I feel compelled to make an exception. You do know your son Gary is gay, don't you? I've seen him at several gay bars, and seen him leave them with men he met there. So my question to you is, what are you going to do now? Are you going to go home and call your son and tell him he deserves to die?"
Who played the mean lady?
The actress is named Camilla Carr.
They need to show the entire series again from the first episode to the final episode...
I'm watching it now on prime. Commercial free.
I’m not shocked this is the highest rated episode of designing women of all time.
Did she say that out loud...i knew its a show but wow how ignorant
And to think to this day Christians still believe AIDs was Gods way of punishing the gays.
Southern women are not to be messed with. Incredible scene. Dixie Carter is a treasure.
that women is right
including P Eee
The show was brilliant and before its time. It touched on so many social issues, domestic violence, body image, AIDS, racial profiling, sexism , mental health, stereotypes, & cross dressing to name a few controversial topics.
Men were women and the women were men in tv shows
One of the best lines: neither are you, pointing to her heart.
I remember the closing scene where the "women" were the only one at his funeral. Silence spoke volumes.
Most heterosexuals have aids because of drug use not sex
Get real. Data proves otherwise.
@@worldcitizensilvousplait8396 A man has a one in a thousand chance in getting HIV from a woman and a woman has a 1 in 50 chance getting from man.
Oh my Goddess. She thought saying that in front Julia. Yeah, that was gonna end well.😊
God tells us to love Him first and our fellow man as we love ourselves. You may not agree with actions some take, but you are to love them, give them Gods Truth and pray for them. We are all fighting the battle to get into Heaven, some of the fights are just different.
This was probably one of the few times the real life Conservative Republican that is Dixie Carter agreed with what the Progressive Liberal Julia Sugarbaker said in an episode of Designing Women.
Not just a great actress, Dixie Carter was one of the finest people I ever knew. And look at a young Tony Goldwyn -- also a fine man and fine actor. I miss this show!
There Will NEVER be another JULIA AKA/ TORNADO SUGARBAKER You can BET THAT❤️ THANKS DESIGNER WOMEN for the Ride😂😂😂
This will ALWAYS be one of my favorite "Designing Women" episodes!
What is this I love This I love it.
YES 😂 Mama yes.
Sadly their are still haters out there who still feel this way about people with AIDS,and still no cure, just treatments that have horrible side-effects. There's a movie called,Dallas Buyers Club, true story ,BTW,it also shows how AZT was a deadly treatment. I doubt there will ever be a cure for this, because like I always said,No Money in curing anything. Greed is the real killer of people.
Sadly some people like the lady in the clip feel that same way today smh
I was 5 - Julia Sugarbaker was already fighting for my rights ❤
I loved this show, the characters, the actors who portrayed them, and the writing…until they did the fat show about Suzanne’s weight. Delta’s weight gain was a symptom of a greater problem and the show’s creators were so ugly to her. Of course she left the show, and the endless stream of cousins started appearing…and I lost interest. 🫤
I miss this show! ❤
I HATE THIS SHOW...and the 70 lbs of shoulder pads that they share
Then don’t watch it. Period.
jasper, you already made a period and then wrote period...were you in the classes next to the boiler room at school..I DONT WATCH IT ,PERIOD JASPER. RUclips randomly sends it to me without my consent which proves that extreme torture is still being used in the military. Gouge out eyes and ears torture to not listen to Julia give another speech to canned laughter..I am only calling out the EVIL@@jasper2207
And the whole time it was our government doing experiments on people with HIV which has a patent number just like covid does .. it literally has a patent number
Proof?
Love love love Designing Women
Before HIV, there were those that called cancer “the Devil’s disease.” People made judgments, and even today, such attitudes make me sick.
I always loved the scenes when Julia got fired up. It meant she was going to rip into someone who had it coming to them.
I loved it whenever Julia unoaded on people like that! BTW loved Alice Ghostley too.
When this show hit its stride...it shot to the moon ...one of the best casts ever!!!
I mean, she wasn't wrong though.
Who? The customer? You must be out of your effing mind.
CORRECTION: GEORGIA SOUTHERN BELLS: GEORGIA IS 💯 PERCENT THE HEART OF DIXIE!!!!!
